When we accept Jesus, and His Spirit dwells in us, it can then be said that Jesus is abiding in us. Something happens to us and we know that we are somehow changed. Yet, does that mean that we are abiding in Jesus just because He is in us? There is a difference between being indwelt, and I certainly pray it for everybody, and co-abiding! You will find this concept in the gospels and in Revelation, where the God of Glory is informing the church of their hiding place during the wrath to come. But next subject!

One of my favorite readings, which I discovered early on, and which helped me in my perspective of practical Christian living is "Perils of the Victorious Life," by Charles Trumbull. It is but one chapter of the book by him, "Victory in Christ." Here is a paragraph from there which I would like to share:

"The Christian who is wholly trusting the Lord for victory soon realizes that many Christians about him have not seen the truth of victory, and are not thus trusting Christ. He may be in close contact with Christians who are older, much farther along in many ways, yet not living in the victory-secret that is so precious to him. And then comes the peril of pride. Almost without realizing it the Christian who knows Christ as victory can let slip some word criticizing a fellow Christian who is not in on the secret, or a condescending comment on such a one’s mistake or failure. “Holier than thou” is one of the perils of the Victorious Life. Of course the instant one speaks thus of another, or thinks in his inmost heart thus of another, his victory is gone; he has sinned. And we must recognize this peril if we would be kept from it. The Christian who is living in victory is in himself no whit better than the carnal Christian who is plainly sinning. The self-nature of the two is identical: hopelessly sinful. The only good thing about the victorious Christian is Christ; and we deserve no credit for Christ: the glory and honor and victory are all His. True victory, therefore, must keep us humble: and it will."

[Bible]

I also feel that there are no bulldogs in the lineup of pastors, teachers, apostles, prophets, etc, nor listed in the gifts of the Spirit. I do not believe that we are appointed to criticize others so. The law of God is the law of love, and there is plenty to say to build up believers, or direct them to the narrow way without blasting away at someone by accusing them in our heart and vocalizing it with our words. But I am not going to go there.

Anyway, I have a desire to share this book with others and have found a place where it can be read on the internet. I sure hope that it is ok to point the way there that it might be appreciated by others:
