Dear friends,
I have imagined developing a community of Christians that would not be a "commune", but would provide an environment in which maintaining an identity free from the extortive pressures of the God-less business and academic world is more possible.
Those who are very comfortable with that world will say, "God does not want to take us out of the world. He wants us to be salt and light."
That is true. However, under the extortive influence of secular business and academia, I see Christians becoming more like the God-less. They are NOT salt and light.
Thus, I need to remind us all of the times when it is written, "Come out of her my people. Touch not the unclean thing."
Obviously, from this command, it must be possible to remain in the world without being corrupted by the extortive practices which would make us the servants of men.

Imagine this. (By the way, this is not a solicitation for money or any prospectus sort of thing that might get me in trouble with the SEC.)
For about 2 million bucks, it should be possible to find 2000 good acres at around $1000/acre.
About 3 years ago, Boise sold 2.2 million acres for $1.65 billion. That's 750 bucks/acre. A fresh search of property offerings in moderate climate USA shows that acreage under $1000/acre is still out there.
It takes about 2.5 arable acres to support the food needs of one person. Two thousand acres could support as many as 800 people.
Considering an average family size of, say, six, 2000 acres should support over 130 families.
That means, if you could find 130 family heads to partner at an average of less than $16,000/per family head, you could have lots for each family the size of which would be over 15 acres.
Not everyone would need to live on the property. Some who felt they would be more effective in the city could allow the country brothers to farm their lots on the the halves (half the produce going to the city brothers- half remaining for the brothers that worked the land).
The city brothers could use their half for themselves. They could sell it. They could even use it for outreach.
What do you think of the wild imagination of a poor guy who misses the farm?
I re-checked my math, but that does not mean all these statements are sound.
However, the concept seems good.
Oh, by the way, the ones who sell us our necessities, the big corporations, do not buy land 5 acres at a time. Ted Turner has been buying land at 50,000 acres a shot.
