In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul uses 2 interesting terms, the first Adam, and the last Adam:

1 Corinthians 15:45
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

And Paul also used the terms the first man and the second man:

1 Corinthians 15:47
The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.

And similarly, the old man also refers to Adam and all that came of Adam:

Romans 6:6
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him {with Jesus}, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

The last Adam started in Bethlehem and ended on the cross of Calvary, where He obtained forgiveness of sins through His blood, and while He was on that cross, God also crucified the old man, or the first Adam or the first man, to the cross:

1 Corinthians 1:30
But of Him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.

Romans 6:6
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Galatians 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

On Calvary came the total end of the first Adam and all that came out of the first Adam. And the last Adam was also dead and buried.

But He rose up as the second man:

1 Corinthians 15:47
The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.

Galatians 5:24
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Galatians 6:15
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything, nor uncircumcision {avails anything}, but a new creature.

Colossians 3:11
Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

The second man began at the resurrection and is still going on and will remain for eternity.

And we who are born again by the Spirit have been born from above; we are not normal people anymore. Though we still look like the first Adam for now, we have the seal of the Holy Spirit, and at our change we will be entirely born again by the Spirit:

1 Corinthians 15:45
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

We also will be made a quickening spirit. But since the shed blood of Jesus already gives us remission of sins past, and while Jesus was on the cross, God crucified us or the first Adam on the cross, and all that God looks at now is whatever newness of life now is able to come out of us.

Romans 6:4
Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death; and, like Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

This newness of life is able to come out through us when we get out of the way. We know now that our old man was already crucified at Calvary, the first Adam was put in Christ and crucified WITH Christ. And DEAD people cannot do anything.

God wants us to CEASE FROM OUR OWN WORKS (from trying to help Him out with our first Adam which has already been crucified), so that God can do His work instead:

Exodus 14:13
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will show you today.

Hebrews 4:10
For he who is entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Many Christians still think that there are some parts of their first Adam-self that “are not so bad” and that “God can use”; not so. God put us in Christ and we are crucified with Christ.

We need to get to the point where we realize that the first Adam is so thoroughly sinful in attitude and action, that, like God, we realize that the first man cannot be repaired and was already thrown on the dustheap at Calvary.

And that now the second man is soliciting people to come join Him in the kingdom-to-come:

Acts 2:40
And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Be blessed.
