Yeah when that came to me I just knew it was God giving me that one. I am not clever enough to think of that one on my own.

With you I rise,
In you I sleep,
kneeling down I kiss your feet,
Grace abounds upon me now,
I once was lost
but now I'm found.
The gift of God dwells within,
To this love I now give in.

That's a great one - I'll remember that

Not to long ago I was driving with a friend of mine named Shane. This man is a devoted agnostic who conceives that there may be a God but there is no proof. The conversation became heated and he finally broke down and said “I once asked a preacher to show me a miracle that God existed, or for that matter show me any sign at all…”

The preacher then said “Ok, I will show you a miracle.” The preacher then proceeded to take Shane outside and point at a tree and said that is a miracle. Shane then asked said to me “I didn’t want him to show me a tree I wanted him to show me a miracle. How stupid does he think I am that I would change my life just because he shoed me a plant?”

Now while I am sure the preacher meant very well by doing what he did. I also am sure that he proceeded with the challenge completely wrong.

What the preacher should have done was simply give Shane the truth and let Shane decide for him self to continue down the path of darkness or turn to the light.

But what is the “truth” here? What should he have done different?

We are told in the Book of Matthew in Chapter 16:4

A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

This is the verse that should have come to the preachers mind. This would have let Shane know right off the bat that he was a sinner and that he needed to turn from his evil ways.

It is also written in the Book of Matthew in Chapter 4:7

Thou shalt not temp the Lord thy God.

But we are all guilty of seeking after a sign of some sort aren’t we? We were all once lost and wanted a sign. I know I did. But it was only until I gave my life to Jesus Christ, and no longer desired a sign to believe in him, that he started showing me signs. He started showing me true miracles to let me know that he was there and watching over me.

But the funniest thing about Shane’s request for a miracle is this:

I turned and asked him “Shane what generation would you say was more superstitious The generation of Jesus or our Generation?” Shane replied back to me by answering “The generation of Jesus was more superstition.” So I replied back to him “Well with all the miracles that Jesus preformed then in the open, his generation still rejected him. So why would you even think that if he showed you a sign that you would believe when they could not?”

Funny… he didn’t seem to have a come back for that one.

In the end it isn’t about what we see that should allow us to believe. It is what we feel and don’t see.

As the old saying goes… just because you can’t see the air you can still feel how it is affecting you.

Trust in Jesus to guide you and comfort you.

Amen
