I thought this was a great post Walt. I have recently been studing and praying on this very scripture:
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
There are many examples in the scripture of what this looks like I think.
I see it here in the ministry of the church to the church...
Acts 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
I see it here:
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
and here:
Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
Colossians 2:23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
Ephesians 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
And here:
Colossians 3:1 ¶ If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5 ¶ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8 ¶ But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
12 ¶ Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

John 4:22-24
(22) "You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
(23) "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
(24) "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
Are you a TRUE worshiper of El Shadday (The Almighty God); Yahweh (The LORD), worshipping in SPIRIT and TRUTH?
Or are you worshipping in TRADITION / RELIGION and SINCERITY?
Yahshua (Jesus) tells us that those who worship Him MUST worship in spirit and truth,
which leads to the conclusion that if you are worshipping in TRADITION/ RELIGION and SINCERITY rather than SPIRIT and TRUTH that you REALLY ARE NOT worshipping Him from His perspective.
(and His perspective is the ONLY one that matters)
Isaiah 29:13
Then the Lord said, "Because this people draw near with their words And honor Me with
their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their reverence for Me
consists of tradition learned by rote,
And worship (to do reverence to) is much much more entailing than a Sunday go to church thing, it’s how we honor Him in our day to day living
What does worshipping in SPIRIT and TRUTH mean?
Well truth is easy to define, it’s according to what’s been revealed by His Word.
In spirit, well as born again believers we have God’s Spirit dwelling within us, and we are to be led by His Holy Spirit, and The Holy Spirit is NEVER NEVER NEVER going to lead CONTRARY to His Word.
Colossians 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception,
according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world,
rather than according to Christ.
Colossians 2:8 Amplified Bible
See to it that no one carries you off as spoil or makes you yourselves captive by his so-
called philosophy and intellectualism and vain deceit (idle fancies and plain nonsense),
following human tradition (men's ideas of the material rather than the spiritual world),
just crude notions following the rudimentary and elemental teachings of the universe
and disregarding [the teachings of] Christ (the Messiah).
Tradition/religion is a form of BONDAGE, people are prisoners to it in chains and they
don’t even realize it, and this verse shows that tradition/religion REPLACES or
SUPERCEDES Truth.
In the Old Testement (which is STILL relevant today) God gave His people feasts to
celebrate, remember, honor (worship?) Him.
Exodus 12:14
Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to Yahweh
(the LORD); throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent
ordinance.
Those feast pointed to Yahshua The Messiah, that is why God calls them “feasts to
Yahweh (The LORD)” or “feasts of Yahweh (The LORD)”, the feasts aren’t about being
Jewish or a Jewish tradition, they are about Yahweh Elohim, which includes Yahshua
and The Holy Spirit.
Are we still obligated to keep those feasts under The New Covenant?
NOPE
But we have the blessing of being able to understand and observe them today with a
completeness that the OT saints didn’t, seeing how they pointed to Yahshua and The
Holy Spirit.
Also the feasts of Yahweh also point to the great tribulation, and the end times, so to
BETTER understand the last days you have to understand the feasts of Yahweh.
You don’t want to observe the feast of Yahweh, I can understand and respect that
(though you are missing a blessing by doing so)
But my point with the feasts of Yahweh in this post about worshipping in SPIRIT and TRUTH or in TRADITION / RELIGION and SINCERITY is this
DO NOT REPLACE THE FEASTS OF YAHWEH ELOHIM WITH MANMADE and/or PAGAN TRADITIONS
THAT DOES NOT HONOR GOD
Lent comes from pre-christian PAGAN roots.
Man has replaced Passover with “Good Friday” (Yahshua was NOT crucified on Friday, but that’s for another post).
Man has substituted the pagan holiday easter for Feast of First Fruits, First Fruits was when Yahshua was reserected.
That lent, and easter come from pagan holidays and traditions is an indisputable fact recorded in history, though you can choose to ignore the truth to keep your traditions.
THAT DOES NOT HONOR GOD
NOW MATTER HOW SINCERE
Leviticus 18:30
Thus you are to keep My charge, that you do not practice any of the abominable customs
which have been practiced before you, so as not to defile yourselves with them; I am the
LORD your God.'"
Leviticus 20:23
Moreover, you shall not follow the customs of the nation which I will drive out before
you, for they did all these things, and therefore I have abhorred them.
Read ALL of 1st Kings 17 to understand of what God thinks about adding pagan customs
and practices to worship of Him.
1 Kings 16:25
Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD, and acted more wickedly than all who were
before him.
1 Kings 16:30
Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD more than all who were before
him.
What did they do that was more wicked and evil than all before?
Bringing in pagan worship.
THAT DOES NOT HONOR GOD
Sincerity means NOTHING to God when it is in error, when it is according to man’s ways
rather than according to His Truth.
Mormons are sincere, but they are in error – lost – going to hell.
JWs are sincere, but they are in error – lost – going to hell.
Buddhists are sincere, but they are in error – lost – going to hell.
Pagans are sincere, but they are in error – lost – going to hell.
Are you willing to examine, in the Light of Scripture, how you are worshipping Yahweh
our God, and discard that which is of tradition and religion rather than according to The
Messiah?
John 8:31-32
(31) So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
(32) and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
Will you get yourself set free from the bondage of man made traditions and religion?
They have NO POWER to overcome and walk victorious over the enemy and our flesh.
John 4:23-24
(23) "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
(24) "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
Will you be one of the people The Father finds to be His worshipper as He seeks?
TRUE unity among the brethren can ONLY done IN TRUTH – by The Power of The Holy Spirit of God.
It can only be done by shedding off the filthy rags of man-made traditions, denominationalisms, and religion.
Then we can TRULY fellowship, one with another.
THEN THE LOST WILL TRULY SEE THE POWER AND LOVE OF GOD IN OPERATION.
