Nancy Pelosi is only doing this because the evangelical sect of our nation plays a huge role at election time. Nobody wants to listen to liberal radio (Air America)....it failed miserably.

Last time I checked AIR AMERICA is still up and running. [Confused]

This bill would force these programs to have a counter-view aired. Would you really want a pro-abortion group sharing their views on a Christian radio station??

Well, I guess it's what good conservative-leaning FOX calls fair and balanced [Wink] Besides - I can't say I've ever heard of a "pro-abortion" group - that sounds terrible!!

...btw - your first claim sounds strangely like a blurb I heard some 20 years ago(!) that "Christian Contemporary Gospel is now the biggest, fastest growing musical genre in the entire market, and look for it to soon dominate modern music!!"

It's up to the listener to decide.

No problem there, really. [Wink]

NO - I disagree totally - this is NOT an attempt at thwarting, modifying, or inhibiting free speech, but of corporate accountability.

Hi, Primoa1970, you and I often see eye to eye, but not on this one necessarily. You said:

SB1 is a bill that, if passed, will squelch any religious organization or 501c3 tax-exempt organization which broadcasts either from a pulpit or from tv or radio to more than 500 people at a time about the topics of the day such as abortion, same-sex marriage, stem-cell research...etc. They are trying to make these organizations register as "grass-roots" lobbyists and will force us to report quarterly or be fined up to $100,000 per day when in non-compliance.”

Eden here:

The positive side of the above is that it will force the church to spend 100% of its time preaching Jesus Christ crucified, died, and rising again on the third day.

Individual Christians may have ideas about the topics of the day, but the church in the church building or in the house churches need to be about preaching Jesus Christ crucified, died, and risen again.

God Himself is saying, “don’t waste our precious time on those other subjects, ONLY preach Jesus Christ crucified, that He died for our sins and that He resurrected; DO NOT PREACH OR SPEND TIME ON ANY OTHER SUBJECT.”

And so in that regard, that Bill is a good thing. It gets the church back to its mission, of PREACHING.

And yes, I do believe that God YHWH can use the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to accomplish His purposes.

It's like God sending Joseph up ahead into Egypt so that God could later preserve the lives of His people Jacob-Israel, causing Joseph to say to his brothers who sold Joseph into Egypt:

Genesis 45:5
Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here: for God did send me before you to preserve life.

So God may be using SB 1 to force His church back onto its mission, which is PREACHING THE WORD OF GOD.

Have a great day, Primoa1970
Eden

Depends on who's who. [Razz]

No, really, if it boils down to that I'd have to side with accountability, which is what this bill seems to be encouraging.

Much of the ACLJ's spin rhetoric seems to be claiming it as an attempt to "silence us Christians" which is not at all the case.

I see no attempt whatsoever at "silencing" or censoring anybody, only putting a system of accountability in place.

Many of these organizations are BIG money, and engage in largely useless rhetoric-slinging & pointless, glitzy "Christian" media. Unfortunately benefitting from the bad financial decisions & support of the gullible & easily misled.

You may want to rethink that, besides just repeating what you've heard from other (shaky) sources. [Wink]
Just one example: ACLJ & ACLU work together to support basic religious freedoms

...and the ACLJ "DOES NOT"(?) receive taxpayer support?? Why's that?? [Confused] Could you provide a little further explanation on that one??

...as far as vague explanations, using inflammatory terms (child molesters! etc..) - all I can say is that each case is unique, and more facts should be acquired before sweeping claims or accusations are made. [Wink]

Really, in the name of fairness - I would think it necessary to provide a link to the actual wording of the House Bill itself, rather than second hand, rhetorical spin interpretation from special interest media groups (such as the silly impotent ACLJ et al). [Wink]

Last year the Democrats fought a hard battle to keep the filabuster from becoming impotent. Now the Republicans are fighting to stop Bill 1 from eroding the First Amendment, freedom of speech. I believe the Democrats will come to their senses a lot faster than the Rebulicans did with the filabuster. They both need to take stock in just doing their jobs of public service and quit trying to "stack the deck" against the other party.

I'm sure most of you are aware of this bill that is being put to the house of representatives pretty soon. It's a bill that was rejected by the senate just this week (thank God) but the battle is not over. Let me explain:

SB1 is a bill that, if passed, will squelch any religious organization or 501c3 tax-exempt organization which broadcasts either from a pulpit or from tv or radio to more than 500 people at a time about the topics of the day such as abortion, same-sex marriage, stem-cell research...etc. They are trying to make these organizations register as "grass-roots" lobbyists and will force us to report quarterly or be fined up to $100,000 per day when in non-compliance. This is the work of the new house speaker, Nancy Pelosi. She believes that this bill can pass through the house (which is now democratically controlled unfortunately) and in which she is the house speaker.

Please....contact your state senator or house representative and say NO to this bill. There is a petition on aclj.org that you can sign onto for free. Please check it out.

Nancy Pelosi does not represent my views or the views of America. This is a direct attack on free speech....and it must be stopped now.

Thank you for reading this.
