SmileyD would not be comfortable taking Christ with him to a casino because Christ would know ahead of time which machines would pay off and how much to bet. They would probably toss both of them out to prevent going broke.

What I also see is that Casinos are providing places for parties, conventions, training facilities, etc. for a various of different organizations as well as high profile entertainment. One of our near bye casinos even has a bowling alley in it. I think that it would be a matter of what else the casino has to offer besides gambling.

Me again...another thought to go along with what Lee said in his last paragraph about whether or not a casino is a place for a pastor. If I have doubts whether or not I should go to a specific place or participate in a certain activity, I ask myself if I would feel comfortable taking Christ along with me. Because He is with me 24-7. I really don't think he would be too thrilled being in a casino. We are not to be a stumblingblock to younger Christians. We, as Christians, are the only Bible that the world reads, so what we do, where we go, and what we say are very important. There is too much of the world in casinos. Even if one goes in one to just entertain themselves and not get involved in all the craze, is it glorifying the Lord? Enough for now. SmileyD

One of the obvious problems with casino gambling is that people that frequent such places smoke cigarettes, cigars, and goodness knows what else. The second hand smoke can cause a health problem particularly to those that have breathing problems. Ventilations is not always the best.

I feel that gambling in itself is not a sin as life itself is full of situations where one has to gamble. If we view only casino gambling, we must be careful that our liberty in Christ does not cause our weaker brothers and sisters to have problems. Our church custodian testified a few sundays ago, how casino gambling nearly wreaked his marriage and his financial security.

Statistically speaking, with the advent of casino gambling we have seen a higher rate of bankruptcies than ever before as well as other socially unacceptable behavior and problems.

Like drinking of alcoholic beverages we must be careful and always consider others. One needs to know when to quit with both drinking and gambling.

Another thought is we must ask how such behavior affects the ministry that the Lord has called us to perform. I think a pastor in a casino would be someone that is out of place, much like drinking at a bar.

Thanks for your input Smiley! But I was not thinking about meeting financial needs or getting rich from gambling. I was thinking more along the lines of enjoyment. Instead of spending money going to a movie, bowling, that kind of thing, going to the casino and just hanging out. I know that God takes care of everything that I need. I don't think it is a sin in that context. I do see though that it has changed the world in which we live. But gambling has been going on for ages. I will say though, that if for some reason that I am in a casino and do hit it big, the only one I could thank for that would be God. And the monies that I won would be used to help those in need or a church need. Ok, I will stop babbling!

Hi. Sky, thanks for the info on how your name originated. I've wondered. About your gambling question...personally I think gambling is a sin. No, there's no commandment that says, "Thou shalt not gamble" but I think that if God has provided someone with money, it should be used for furtherance of the Gospel somehow, whether it is through tithing to your local church, or using the money to provide a meal for a needy family, etc. Putting money in a slot machine isn't helping anyone. Trying to make money by gambling is telling God you don't think He can meet your needs so you're going to help him out a little.

God blesses always,

Hi all,
That poses a good question... Is gambling a sin? I am not talking about an addiction. I am talking about a Saturday night, spending entertainment money that does not take away from your family money. Would love to hear what you all think. Lee, I am not calling you a sinner, but like you I take entertainment money about once a year and spend a night at the casino. Usually playing for a long time on $10-$20.
All the kids are home now, and we are getting ready this week for school starting on the 18th. It is so nice to have the house full again. Have a good Monday!

I am retired and find myself in a situation where I am continuing looking for something to do. It is even worst now that I fractured my left foot and cannot get around as much as I would like. What I am noticing here is that lots of seniors are filling the casinos and playing the nickel or penny machines. Apparently they have little or nothing to do either. Maybe my wife and I will head for the casino today but will bring only $10 with us.

Hi all,
Rach, so nice to meet you. Your dad seems like a great person. You are very blessed to have a family so in love with Christ. I am the only member of my family that attends church. My dad says he is a believer but doesn't feel the need to attend church or to even talk about God very often.
Smiley, nice to meet you too. I really wish that I could get into an outside "group" from church, we are thinking about some of the things that are offered at our church, but they all seem to stop during the summer.
We are going out of town for a few days, not sure that I will be able to check the boards. Have to go get my step-daughter and it is an all day adventure. Please pray for us on our trip.
Chris....
Send me an email, let me know what is going on in your wonderful life.
Guess I should tell you about my name.. wonderful_sky comes from a friend. I have sky blue eyes and started out with the internet Id of skybluee. A friend of mine asked me why I was always blue...telling him I was not blue, was the color of my eyes. He tells me that I am not blue, I am wonderful. LOL Kinda corny huh? But the name stuck! So, I am wonderful (more like blessed!) and Sky has always been what everyone has called me. I have this other name...tell you more about it later.
Love in Him and for Him,
Sky [dance]

hi..just spent a few minutes reading all the posts here on this "thread". I'm from upstate New York, married with one teenage son. All my immediate family members are saved and attend church. I am attending a ladies Bible study every Monday night. We are studying Beth Moore's "Breading Free". It is awesome and the Lord is teaching me a lot about myself. Being free from bondage is a wonderful thing. Hope someone writes back or posts. Just a note to encourage who might read this, remember God loves you. If someone is struggling with something and you don't think there's any hope...believe me, there is. Keep looking up. Have a great day, everyone!!

Good morning all,
I placed a little ditty on the poem thread. I had no idea when I started this post that it would become this, but I look forward to checking and seeing what has been posted. I find myself praying for my message board friends. Isn't that great?? With all the "bad" things on the web that there is some place like this? I feel blessed just being a part of this group. Hope more people take a look and add a little something about themselves. If the Lord came again, right now, I would have so many more people to look for in Heaven!!
God Bless,
Sky [dance]

Under 'Bible Topics' the thread is " Sojourners Song" There are some beautiful pieces written there. I used to write poetry many years ago during my depressed and drunken state, but in my happy and well nourished state I can't write a thing. Just tell a bunch of sorry jokes, and crab a lot. Tell me more about the poetry thread? please! I love to share my poems. I have tons of them... been writing for 20 years. I am like you, add more of my opinion and what God lays on my heart. But sometimes I become truely inspired and add a verse here and there. This is the only message board that I belong to, and the only one that I want to belong to. I am good at stepping on peoples toes, though, unintentionally. I am hoping to find inspiration and knowledge by being here. Let me know about the poetry and I promise to post some of my poerty for everyones amusement!
God Bless,

Ah, Drew, that area looks so neeeeet! But I think you need a golf course or two[ wink-wink] and thank you for the kind words.

Sky; jump in and have some fun. There is much to learn from so many of the members. many are extremely well versed in the Scriptures, I add mostly laic commentary, and sometimes add a verse or two. and sometimes snap off a few people. as well as bringing in some good clean Jokes. If you have any, add them to our humor thread. There is also a poetry thread to add to.

God Bless you my child and grow with us!

Hi All,
Drew, took a look at your lake, beautiful! We are neighbors, being that I am in Missouri. My daughter, oldest, just joined this site, she is one_fire_for_GOD. She is 15. She is doing great and wonderful things for the Lord! I am a stay at home mom right now and am enjoying every minute of it. I have a lot of growing to do with my Lord, but find every minute of my growth as a wonderful adventure. I am also a writer, that gets into a slump every now and then and just sits on it. One day I am going to write the great novel, but not sure when or what about. As most "artist" I am half crazed. HAHAHAHA! Well, enough babbling about my dicombobulated self! God Bless!

Hi Sky and Joel;

Sister Sky your heart for Christ and sweet spirit are a true blessing for others. Brother Joel your wisdom, common sense, and especially your sense of humor so often lead us back on track.

Just a big ol' country boy here, from the Flinthills of Kansas. First came to Christ back in 1977. I have been married to my precious one for 31 years last May, with three children and 6 grandbabies.

I have been caretaker for 15 years, at a small residential lake and park, as groundskeeper, enforcement officer, wastewater operator, game warden, fire captain for our locaL volunteer department, and generally the first line of emergancy response for the first twenty minute "window" until law enforcement or emergency personel can arrive.

Our busiest fire season is in the spring burning, when we literally have miles of prarie fires to control. My busiest time is the fourth of July period where I am dealing with a population of 2000 - 3500 people.

This is an interesting site with aerial photos of our lake:

http://www.geospectra.net/kite/kahola/kahola.htm

Busy during the spring/summer, with much more free time in the winter months.

May God bless.

A Servant of Christ,
Drew

You will also find that 'Rach 'is one of my daughters, who happens to join us on the board, here. there is also 'Innerchild' who sporadically jumps in. Right now he is extremely busy, working, and playing tennis and is actively looking for a new place to live. Therefore is not able to be here right now.

I have been a Bible teacher, and right now teach a highschool sundayschool class.I have been active on this board since almost the beginning of the present format. Mostly to provide insight, counsel, aggravation, and a few jokes.

I find many 'Bible scholars' wind up taking themselves tooooooo seriously.

God Bless

Joel

Hi Joel!
It is great to hear from someone that talks to anyone. I have 5 children, his. mine and ours....ours, who is almost 7 months, is the only one at home right now, the others go to their other parents for the summer. They will all be home soon to start the new school year and I look forward to that (I say that now, check with me about this again in.. let's say... April!!). I don't drink coffee, I drink tea, sugar free, but need the caffine to keep my thoughts organized. I love the Lord though and am happy to be here, gives me something to think about and although my opinion is not much, it is all mine. HEHEHEHE!
God bless you.

Well there are some here; but they only seem to talk to whom they want. I am just a crabby old man who likes to stir the pot occasionally, and I like coffee, drink a lot during the day ---keeps my hand steady as I draw.

I am an architect from North Carolina, I have 4 children, grown and on their own, 2 of which, from time to time, appear on this board.

God Bless

Joel

Where is everyone? There are too many lights out! Surely someone has something to talk about!! I see all these people logged in and no one is talking. I am not much for chat rooms and the such, but I love to talk!! In fact, sometimes I am talking and can't shut up, I think it is the caffine! Well, everyone... God bless, someone reply to this so I can talk to them. HEHE!! Btw... if you don't know God, now is the time to talk to someone about it! There are a lot of people here that will help you. Can't you here Him knocking?
