I do believe that, when placed in a uniquely free place, such as America, we should feel a sense of obligation to exercise that freedom. Especially since others, in countries around the world, don't have to opportunities that we do. Opportunities to vote, to speak our minds, to choose our religion, to open-air preach in the streets...
My struggle with the issue of voting has nothing to do with the merrits of voting, in and of itself. My struggle comes from having felt that one particular party has represented the stances typical to most evangelicals for generations, and has now decided to put them aside for some alterior motive. It is almost as though this party has been infiltrated by the same socialists that destroyed the other. What is a Christian to do?

Yikes, a bit inflammatory. I don't think there's much evidence supporting this.

There are many that say that, if you don't vote, you are not American. There are others that say, if you don't vote, that you have have no right to complain about the outcome of the election. What choices do we have, Christians?
For years, the Christian could rely, with a certain degree of certainty on the idea, that the Republican Party was the more fiscally and socially conservative party, in mainstream politics. While I still agree that that is true, they are quickly straying away from those ideals. How can one continue to support a political party that no longer seems interested in representing them?
For the first six years of the Bush presidency, government spending went up more than $10 million dollars. The sad thing is, during that time, Republicans had control of the House and the Senate. They were the ones raising spending, and Bush vetoed none of their spending bills.
There are those that make the argumeht that Bush cut taxes, so he's not all bad. Well, what happens when he leaves office and is replaced by a fiscal liberal (because McCain won't win)? In order to fix the defacite, Obama and the Democratic congress will raise taxes, and we are right back to square one. So it was all for naught.
Furthermore, we are now looking at a Republican Party that takes people like McCain, Giuliani and Schwartzenager, and calls them Republican. Tell me something. Other than foreign policy, where do Mr. Giuliani and Senator Clinton really disagree? They both want to kill babies, raise taxes, beef up Welfare, Medic Aid and Medi-care, and take away our guns.
Until the Republican Party returns to their base and actually start representing the people, I don't have any problem with not voting. However, I do feel as though I reserve every right to complain, but instead of just complaining about Obama, I also get to complain about the Republicans and how they let us down. What say you?
