Lots of great sword action.

Cutting off heads and other limbs.

Seeing all those arrows flying killing people by the hundreds at a time - thrilling.

Shows reality: the good guys steal from others, like to party - but they're the good guys so it's all ok.
The end justifies the means afterall.

Plenty of magic to keep it nice and interesting.

Good family fun - the kids love movies like this.

J.R.R Tolkien was a Catholic yes, but he said himself that the books were not a reflection of his religion. They were not meant to symbolize his faith. They were simply a story and that is it.

He was very interested in languages and wrote a few almost complete languages. Quenya and a couple of the other languages have been studied and poems and ect. have been written in these languages by other authors. Ppl can often hold conversations in them.

However, when he made these languages, there was no one to speak them. He had yet written his books and no one knew about them. So he wrote the stories in order to create a world where the characters could speak his language. That is why LOTR was written. To give a home to his language, not to be a symbol to Christians. He said he would have written the entire book in his languages, except he thought it'd be a little to hard to take lol. I agree. He found it funny that ppl were trying to read things into his books that weren't there. There wasn't any symbolism intended in the entire book.

That being said, the books make great stories and I do love em [Smile]

Just like the discussion about Star Wars in this forum, I have Christian friends who say that the Lord of the Rings movies are heavily centered around Christian themes, and that it can be considered a Christian film.

*themes like Gandolf's "resurrection" or whatever it was called
*the ring itself as pure temptation
*and the fellowship representing something similar to the disciples

I understand these points of view, and I like the LOTR movies, but I consider them as being pretty far from true "Christian" films.

I would like other people's opinions and insight.
