I've been reading through the book of Hebrews and came across Hebrews 13:17...
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.
What I would suggest is that you tell them you are a Christian and bring up this verse. While Christians are to obey and submit to the authority of their leaders, really underscore that leaders must be accountable for what they do. To know to do good, but not to do so, is a sin (James 4:17), and each of us shall give account of himself to God (Rom 14:12). Reaffirm that you want their work to be a joy, not a burden, for everyone.
