Botham...you say..
"Much as I dislike agreeing with liberals like Obama and Ted Kennedy, they are trying to implement a medical system that addresses the needs of all citizens while the insurance industry, no doubt including erstwhile Christian CEO's at the helm, do their best to maintain the status quo and their yachts and mansions, while poor kids die from lack of good medical care."
So I would like to share another view...which is neither right or left (both extremes only hurt) nor is it a conspiracy theory (being many opposing and some cooperating groups involved)...
One serious misunderstanding imposed by the left's highly paid propaganda machine is that anyone who is opposed to this over 700 page bill (which has never been read in the House or the Senate in full) termed the Heaalth Care Reform Act, are against Health Care Refrom. This is their typical way of twisting the truth to intentionally brainwash the masses (who are led by the "headline" like a bull by the horns) to be opposed to all that are opposed to their rather shrouded agenda for Statism, which has been being implemented since the 70's as an active political goal. They cannoit come right out and tell US Americans they intend the "State" or government to have ultimate control over all aspects of your life, including your freedom of speech, authority over your children, and who gets to live or die (see chapter 6 or Lynn Stanley's "How to Fight the Culture War") because we would toss the whole lot of them out on their proverbial behinds next election. So they carefully evolve the re-interpretation of terms like "frreesom", "choice" and other words (after the technique used by Hitler's propaganda machine) to convince the generally ignorant masses of things like it is okay and should be allowed for the government to approve the killing not only of human fetus's but full term partially birthed babies (leading up to the soon to be preached "Mary Mercy" laws where mothers can return their fully birthed babies up to six months later for "non-assisted living"), euthanizing the handicapped via non-assisted living which is killing by slow painful starvation (see the T4 - Euthanization Program), the right to legally silence any opposing views (like Canada's present Hate Speech legislations which actualy focuses mostly on people or businesses that bel;ieve in or quote certain Biblical sentiments), and so on.
They achive this by inundating the courts with 100's of cases a year (losing most). But of those they win (ten here, 5 there) in the 9th district US Court of appeals where they planted most of their cronnies, they get to site the ten or so a year that they have won (with activist judges who were already predetermined to spin the case their way, like Massachusetts Supremem Court Justice Margaret Marshall busted by the NY Times but never allowed indictment requested by Mass Representatives by none other than Marsha Coakley) which by the end of a decade ends up being well over 100 decisions they can site.
Now then a second misnomer is the implication that Ted and Obama style is opposed by erstwhile Christian CEO's. The truth is the extremists in both major parties here (the greedy capitalist swines and the statists) both exploit the Christian masses (again often led by the media not the word of God) so that the left uses social issues like feeding the poor and healthcare while the right uses the equally concerning defense of our actual constitutional rights and the right to life (which is a choice not anti-choice).
Al Gore and Tiper both claimed they were "born again Christians" to get Hill and Billary elected....Geo Bush Jr claims to be a CHristian but obviously ignored Matthew 25...no real Christian could have done nothing when Katrina struck...in fact many ministries were there on the scene the very day (but you won't here about them on TV)
True Christian values are more libservative or consiberal...the Christ teaches a right to defend, equal rights for slave or free, male or female (all are one in Christ) yet also emphasizes feeding the poor, housing the homeless, and healing the sick. Both extremes are selfish powermongering political machines and experts in rhetoric and propaganda and are vying for power and control and are destroying the US. The up and coming Hate Speech bills promoted by a Ted or Obama will hinder free speech and the public debate in favor of extreme liberal issues, once we allow a government to decide who gets to say or thoink a certain way and who may not we are nop longer a democracy but a form of imposed socialism which then must logically censor the press from saying these words or printing these ideas, and school books must then be censored to only allow the allowable and of course religious groups who disagree or have a different point of view must also be silenced...
There goes true Constitutional freedom of Speech, freedom of Religion, and freedom of the Press previously cherished that makes our experiment what it was meant to be...a place where all these things would be guaranteed for all peoples (so much for the intent of the radical left disguised these days as Democratic "progressives"). Greedy selfish people who do not care about others and live only to benefit self fill both sides of the isles in our Representative branches (which rarely if ever represent the people but rather push there privately discussed agendas). The left is NOT the people's party and the right are not all 'erstwhile Christian CEO's....Geo Bush Senior was first with a Universal Healthcare package...Clinton followed....Geo Bush Jr had his ideas and now it is Obama's turn...only the present Healthcaqre reform bill contains language that supports my having to pay taxes that allow partial birth abortion for anyone their so-called "options councilors can convince and even to allow for "non-assisted living" (muder by slow and painful deprivation of touch, food, and water...Robert Wendal of Oregon who did not want to die but the court foubnd inb favor of the Social Services took 22 days to die in a locked room with no human contact, no water, and no food...your government and mine and many, manmy peoplke are becoming brainwashed like the pre-WW2 Germans tht this is mercy...may you never recieve such mercy as Hillary, Ted and yes, even Obama would justify for their parties agend).
Listen my brother...I was hardcore Democrat for 22 years (now an independent a citizen of another country who bows only to my King, the Lord Jesus) and when I actually dug really deep and did my homework I was appalled, which I am sure all would be...schools are one of the tools, the media another, even television and movies are being used to degrade Christianity and make us all a bunch of fanatical nuts anbd hypocritical perverts...trying doing that with gay people or Muslims and watch the major law suits fly..
Do we need to feed the poor (yes)...house the homeless (yes)...heal the sick (yes)...but we also need to defend the right of the individual whatever their philosophy, and the elederly and infirmed, and our nation which is quickly becoming the only place on earth where one can practice and express their heartfelt religious beliefs without government intervention....
We need a comprehensive system of Healthcare here that covers all people that does not allow insurance moguls to capitalize and control the industry but because the people oppose this plan and do support these things.mentioned above does not mean they do not support Health Care Reform...the media is intentionally spreading this lie and are being highly paid to do so...
In Him

Brother Paul

Mentor's Riddle--I never for an instant thought that you were mean. I have read many of your posts and have never thought anything but that you enjoy a good discussion like all of us.
Sometimes when I talk I have a hard time expressing how I feel.

I was angry yesterday when I was writing, but not at you, but the way our world is -- and that anger was being reflected in my words.

But, regardless I'm sorry if I came across that way.

Sometimes I am guilty of basing my comments too much on the political or ideological aspects of an issue instead of researching scripture that is applicable.

This world has gone throgh some immense changes since the days when our Lord walked here. The orgiinal Christians actually were quite socialistic if we were to apply such a label. In Acts 4 vs.34 it says 'neither was there any among them who lacked for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold' vs.35and laid them down at the Apostles' feet and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.'

I'm not saying scripture asks us to be socialistic but clearly there is the sense that resources should be pooled and then distributed from a central source. Ideally this should be the Church of course and it is the Church that has done so much good charitable work as light in this dark world.

Many of the hospitals in my city were started by Christian groups. Our health care system is a single payer syatem, meaning that doctors bill the government run insurance for their services. Doctors still have autonomy as to patient care and no bureaucrat tells the doctor how to run their business.

Recently I went to the doctor to have a heart test done and I waited a week for it. If there were an emergency it would have been immediate. I'm sure that there have been long waits in some instances but generally it's pretty good. By the way, I had a kidney stone, the most physical pain I've ever endured, in Alexandria Minnesota just south of our province of Manitoba, and the hospital there couldn't have been better, From the time I walked in to the time I was in a CT scan was about 10 minutes.

God bless, Botham

I'm sorry if I have come across as mean...

But, people (not you -- I'm talking about the people and business that got their selves into trouble) need to use the mind God gave them.

When those people take those house loanes at such high rates and prices, then they are getting into bed with snakes... Willfully.

So why shoudl they complain when a snake bites them?

They did it to theirself... just like the businesses.

Wall Street criminals who sold houses to people who had no business getting into this level of debt, then packaging these miserable mortgages and selling them on the open market.

Those people who got those loanes knew they couldn't afford a house like that.

I know I can't affoard a $200,000.00 house -- and I make good money.

Why does someone making about $20,000.00 a year think they can affoard it?

It is selfishness.

They were greedy and reaped the benefits of greed.

So corporate socialism is ok because if we don't keep the richest of the rich in good shape then the bottom of the economy falls out. But it's still public funds targeted at a specific sector.

This to the majority of American's was completley un-acceptable too...

This is a capitalistic socieity... not socialist.

What they did with the bail-outs was complete rubbish and those companies did not deserve that money...

They should have all been allowed to fall, collapse and fail.

They had poor business practices and it was their fault.

Once they fell, it would allow for better more sound business practices to arise -- which is the essence of capitalisim.

Out water is not socialist water... I pay a water bill every single month, which goest to pay for water sanitation, the workers who sanitize it. (not to mention the flouride the put in my water which is poison -- I'll never understand that)

Taxes should be used to fund the government and our military -- nothing more.

The health insurance companies are the ones who take care of our health... it costs money yes.

But, I've busted my but in my life to afford health insurance.

Others can too...

Those that are medically unable to work -- yes they should have some sort of help, which is called dissability.

Everyone else needs to stop being so lazy and work... take self responsibility and take care of their self -- DON'T EXPECT ME and MINE TO TAKE CARE OF YOU...

Again, taxes should fund the government and military... that's it.

No one's health, no business saving... only the government and military.

Good points M'sR but---what is it called when you use public funds, taxpay's dollars, to bail out wall street to the tune of nearly a trillion dollars. So corporate socialism is ok because if we don't keep the richest of the rich in good shape then the bottom of the economy falls out. But it's still public funds targeted at a specific sector.

I'm not a socialist or a liberal for that matter, but there are certain fundamental things that require public funding. Roads, infrastructures of various kinds, and yes, medical. Why shouldn't poor kids receive as good medical care as the kids of Wall Street criminals who sold houses to people who had no business getting into this level of debt, then packaging these miserable mortgages and selling them on the open market.

The USA is the only highly functioning western style demoacracy that does not have universal health care for it's citizens. Next time you turn your water tap on, thank God for you clean publicly funded socialist water. Here's to your very good health---God bless, Botham

Botham,

That may work very well north of the USA border, but not here.

I've known of so many people that come here to the United States of America to get medical treatment, because they have to wate so long to get it in there.

America is not Socalistic and this bill is not wanted by the vast majority of Americans.

Maybe the Health Care Bill is right -- maybe it is wrong. But one thing is for certain: it is NOT wanted by the majority.

Our representatives in America are going behind our backs and voting in ways that we do not support...

This is NOT the American way and never has been.

I want people to be healthy and whole -- like all Christians should. But this is not the way to do it.

If that health bill was passed my Grandmother woudl be dead because the bill would deem her unfit to live.

My mother would be dead, again, because the bill would deem her unfit to live.

My father would be dead, once again, because the bill would deem him unfit to live.

This "bill of mercy" is a ploy to harm one of the last great countries in the world.

This bill again, IS NOT wanted by the majority and shouldn't even be considered as long as this is so.

Mentors Riddle-good article and very telling about how the world views traditional marriage. Imagine--under the proposed health care bills both in the House and Senate people living together without marriage, including homosexual couples, pay less in insurance premiums compared to a traditionally married couple.

As sick as this is however, it is sicker that your country(I am Canadian and we've had universal medical care since the 1960's) has taken this long to overhaul your medical insurance system. Good medical care is a birthright in a civilized country and has so many implications for economically poor and otherwise disadvantaged people.

Actually I don't believe a country is truly democratic if the children, homeless, addicted and so on are no treated equally with excellent medical care. It is that fundamental. And I might add that Our Lord would view the oligarchical insurance industry with the scorn it deserves--as a band of vipers.

Much as I dislike agreeing with liberals like Obama and Ted Kennedy, they are trying to implement a medical system that addresses the needs of all citizens while the insurance industry, no doubt including erstwhile Christian CEO's at the helm, do their best to maintain the status quo and their yachts and mansions, while poor kids die from lack of good medical care.

I am very glad however, that their was effective opposition to having abortion paid by public funds. In Canada, as I understand it, women can get publicly paid abortions and that's plain and simple an abomination. God bless, Botham
