I want to thank you very much for sharing all that you have concerning you and your family and what you all have suffered and all that you are suffering due to hurricane Katrina. Please know that I along with millions of others around the world are praying for every single person in all three states for the Lord to just comfort you all in a very big way and for the Lord to continue touching everyone's heart to come forth with as much help as possible for each and every person! This is all so very heartbreaking, devastating, overwhelming for all victims and also for all people seeing all of the news footage! My heart goes out to all of you in a huge way and I will continue praying for all of you! I say amen to you, Laurie FL, for saying to those who are just looking at any sin, rather than doing that they need to be showing Christ's love for others, reach out to them in love, and to be praying for all of them! That is what Jesus Christ would want them to do and I hope that sometime they'll realize that and try to remember "but for the grace of God go I."

Actually, the places that took the worst of Katrina were west of Biloxi. The winds may have weakened just short of landfall, but wind damage was not what wreaked havoc in this storm. 25-30-foot storm surges came in and just swept civilization away.
The small coastal towns of Waveland, Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian are virtually wiped from the face of the earth. Biloxi is getting a lot of coverage, as is New Orleans because of name recognition for the larger cities. A brief story of Pass Christian by some well-meaning reporter aired Thursday and she didn't even say the name right. No one could even get into these areas for days because they were cut off from civilzation.
Tons of chicken meat and dead shrimp got swept over the land and into the water as they were spilled from storage containers and people are now attempting to salvage some of that meat for food...if you can imagine. Rotten meat, not only stinking up the entire area for miles, but being thought of as a food source. These folks are desperate.
Dead bodies of animals and people litter the streets and are in the houses. The people have no water. Looting is happening and people are being threatened with guns if thugs think they have supplies or money.
My family and my husband's family live in this region. We evacuated his grandma and mentally handicapped aunt to Lafayette, LA for the storm and subsequently to Florida. Thei house in Metairie (west NO) was not damaged, but they cannot return for months due to the infrastructure being gone. My husband's mother, sister, and stepfather live in Bay St. Louis. None of their homes are habitable now, but they are lucky that at least some structure is standing and can be repaied one day. They lost pets, but even worse, they lost friends. They attempted to resuce a 400-pound young man from an attic and he drowned as the water level rose as they were trying to cut a hole big enough for him to escape.
My grandmother and cousins live(d) in Pass Christian one block off the beach. We have not heard from them, but we hope they evacuated somewhere for safety as that whole area was swept away.
My sister, brother, and stepmother in Hattiesburg, MS had severe tree damage to their home and took on a lot of water from the rains, but they will be okay, if a bit shellshocked and inconvenienced.
My other grandmother, as well as tons of aunts, uncles and cousins live about 30 miles inland from Gulfport and they have had no water, electricity, or phone and also took tree damage to their various homes. We can't get in touch with them *** cell phones don't work either, but we can imagine how hard it must be for the old and infirm.
What is sad for my husband and I is the memories destroyed by this storm. Places we treasured while growing up are just gone, as if they were never there. His school is gone, except for a statue of Jesus that remains standing in the midst of it all. My family's historic newpaper shop lost its roof and took untold damage (as reported to us by some folks who got into Pass Christian to see) but the brick structure is standing, surviving again as it survived Camille. Our dear friends who lived across the street from the shop lost everything.
Many of these are poor people, uneducated people, people with little to no insurance. Recovery will take years if it ever happens at all. 20 years after Camille those coastal areas were still ghost towns and filled with despair. The casinos revived the entire place economically, but of course allowed a much more unwholesome element into the area.
These people need your prayers, your time, your hospitality, and your money. I hope those of you busy looking for the sin they committed to deserve such a thing open up your hearts to them and reach out to show Christ's love to them.

I don't know if this really is the worse hurricane in US history... but it's definitely the worse of La. history. My step-dad's family has all been evacuated. Their houses are all underwater.
I work for a drug company and our trucks haven't been able to deliver much needed supplies to our hospitals and pharmacies. There are people still in those hospitals that are under water up to the 3rd and almost 4th floor.... people that need medicine and medical treatment. The coast guard is having to meet the truck over a mile away, load up the drugs on the boat, and transport it.
They say it will take at least a month to fix the levee. Some people are saying that it will not be able to be fixed, that New Orleans will be wiped out completely.
Think about that... a city known for it's witchcraft, sex, drugs, and parties... wiped out in this day and age.
Mississippi was hit hard... but most of the water has drained away already. New Orleans was below sea level to begin with... as is most of Louisiana... it will be a long time before life can get back to normal around here. Even as far up north as I am... our lives have been touched dramatically.
Please pray for all those who have been affected by Katrina. All the people who are now homeless. Especially those who didn't have insurance. You wouldn't believe the number of people these days who don't have insurance. And all the people who have lost loved ones.

Katrina is now being called the most violent hurricane in our nation's history. They are showing all the pictures of all the terrible devastation and horrible damage Katrina hit Biloxi, Ms with in all of her wrath. Just one example which is part of it - a 4 lane highway totally ripped up and then totally ripped into pieces. Biloxi looks like a war zone. New Orleans and Alabama have been hit hard too. The cost of all of the destruction and damage is estimated to be in the billions of dollars. The death toll is still climbing. There is still severe flooding. 80 percent of New Orleans is now under water as much as 20 ft. deep in some places. Highways and bridges destroyed - some are under water. They are having to close the dome where thousands of people took shelter. Many people have now taken refuge on the highways that are higher up and they are praying for no traffic to come along. We need to pray for everyone throughout that whole area. The mayor of New Orleans is now calling for the entire city to be completely evacuated. The situation there is completely critical.

I will keep praying. I sort of remember what the news said about it weakening. They said that there is sometimes a brief moment where the hurricane weakens. This time, the eye got weaker at the exact time that it hit land or else the devistation would have been even worse. I think that is how they put it anyway.
Of course it was still bad though. I just thank God for that moment of weakness to occur at the same time it hit land.

Yes they are calling Katrina the worst of any hurricane in history. That was reported on the news this morning.

Yes prayer does bring about ever so much help and also it brings about miracles both big and small! Hurricane Katrina is the worst hurricane in history. Biloxi, Mississippi took the hardest hit from Katrina and the devastation and all of the terrible damage is beyond any words. There is ever so much loss of life there and untold millions of damage! When my son, Jim, was stationed at the air base in Biloxi, MS a category 4 hurricane struck full force. Jim only had time to call me before going right into shelter on the air base for which I was so thankful to know they had safe shelter! All during the hurricane striking there I could not sleep - I just kept praying for Jim and for everyone else! When it was over with and he could do so Jim called me to let me know he was safe for which I again was so very thankful! Jim said he would never ever even consider being in that part of the country again due to their hurricanes. He also said the horrible roaring noise of the hurricane was so unlike anything he'd ever heard before and was so terrible! They helped with all of the clean up plus stood guard duty against any looters. New Orleans and Alabama have been hit very hard by Katrina also. The death toll continues to rise and all of the cost of the damages caused by Katrina is now in the billions of dollars. We need to continue to pray for everyone in all of those areas hit by Katrina and also for the ones in the pathway where Katrina is still continuing to strike.

They it said it was a miracle that the storm some how weakened, I don't remember how they explained it exactly, but it weakened just before hitting land. I believe that was because of prayer.

It all depends upon the direction in which the hurricane is headed as to where it will strike. It can strike one area and then turn and head in another direction.
We need to keep praying for all areas and all of the millions of people where Katrina has struck and where Katrina continues to strike. The news people are trying to keep everyone updated on the whole situation. God bless.

They have just announced on the news hurricane Katrina will strike New Orleans, Louisiana by sunrise. It is a catastrophic hurricane. We need to pray for all of the people and their safety who are in the wide areas that are expected to be hit by Katrina.
