It may seem things are getting worse.... but a few things to remember...
The population of the world 6,000,000,000+ it was only a fraction of that just a couple hundred years ago... and there's an efficient international media. So not only are the dozens of more stories due to population growth, but there's far more covereage where there used to be none.
Millions were killed in the holocoust before most people knew about it. Today, if one person gets killed in dramatic fashion, the whole world can find out about in minutes.
Especially when considering the number of people on the planet, we are living in one of the most peaceful times in history. For centuries the great powers of the world were in a constant state of war. All men in most of the world served most of their adult (and youth) in the military service.
Diseases are killing fewer and fewer young people all the time. Old age and related illness kills the most people, and life expectancy is on the rise. Choice factors (smoking, diet, exercise) are what prevents most people from living even longer!
There are more free people now (raw #s, and proportion of total population) than ever in the history of the world.
People are 'ego-centric' by nature... things always seem as if they're the best or worst than they've ever been... For years people thought the earth was the center of the universe/galaxy. Civilizations of the past always seemed to think they lived in the center of the world.
Many Christians have thought they were in the 'last generation' since the early church.
Be careful to give in to the hype.

Welcome to the BBS ![[Smile]](smile.gif) I hear what you're saying! I have a 12 year old son myself and I am probably too overprotective. But things are getting so wild out there, I think we have to be. This sure does raise that urgency level as Sister Betty said to pray for Jesus' soon return! It's getting So Dark... We really need to make sure our lamps are filled with Oil and those wicks trimmed!

I feel for you having a teen in this day and age, but God is merciful. The best thing you can do is make sure she or he gets the proper Biblical training, teach him or her to be aware of the sitation and to have the courage to say no when tempted by friends to experiment with things. Then send her out the door with a prayer of protecion on her or his life.

Sometimes I feel things are moving so fast. Not that anyone can predict when things will happen (rapture, tribulation, etc) but it just seems like things are really moving fast...the weather, violence, etc. Maybe there is just more media coverage now a days, but I have NEVER seen so many children come up missing and killed as I have recently. Too sad and too scary. Makes me want to keep my teen in the house forever I need to rely on God to protect her. All we can do is pray.
