mdulin2004, Jesus was telling this to those who would be alive in 70 AD when the Roman armies besieged Jerusalem. This has nothing to do with us.

What happened is that the Roman armies under Vespasian surrounded Jerusalem, but then Vespasian had to suddenly withdraw and return to Rome to secure the emperorship, and during this hiatus, the disciples who had believed Jesus fled to Pella (not to Petra) on the east side of the Jordan river.

Not long after that, Vespasian's son Titus surrounded Jerusalem again, and this time no one got out and 1,100,000 Jews and proselytes assembled in Jerusalem for the Passover perished.

Jesus told those who believed what He said to pray that their flight from Jerusalem and Judah would not be in the winter or on the sabbath day.

God bless, [Cross] BORN AGAIN

It means to pray that you are not out of season.
The part of the verses which talk about being with child, are to be understood spiritually.

Meaning to pray that you have not taken another husband other than Christ, and even birthed a baby from it (lie) to the point of nursing it.

It has to do with the spiritual concept of being a virgin for Christ. [Cross]

Interesting. That bears witness with my spirit. Do you think this has anything to do with the Noahide laws, a movement to reinstitute the Jewish law penalized by beheading?

In order to understand that better, you have to include the text from whence it came: This verse came out of Matthew 24. That particular chapter deals with some questions. After Jesus left the temple: his disciples came to him. First Jesus prophesied about the temple-"There shall not be one stone left upon the other. This concerned the temple,

So because it was the temple area and they were departing it probably because of the approaching sabbath (6PM Friday night to 6pm Saturday night).

The disciples asked Jesus three important questions:

As Jesus was sitting upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came to him in private and asked the following:

TELL US - When shall these things be?

What shall be the sign of your coming?

And of the end of this world?

That particular verse AND WOE UNTO THEM THAT ARE WITH CHILD, AND TO THEM THAT NURSE IN THOSE DAYS!

Woe = Warning !!!! Red Flag!

BUT pray that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

The world flight is old English for escape, even in the German, Spanish,Italian, Greek, French they use the word ESCAPE.

In the winter and on the sabath both tie into Jewish days of obligation: The sabath you can not run, escape, nor give birth. In the old very distant past middle eastern foklore a child born on the sabath is said to have been marked for death, because the mother gave birth and did work. This still held in Jesus' times. In the winter is the FEAST OF THE DEDICATION. Another high day of obligation. Jesus mentioned it in JOHN 10:22

Remeber after Jesus raptures his church away or maybe before it the Jews will reestablish the sacrifies etc.. Nowadays (2005) one having a baby on the sabath isn't looked as evil because life comes from God- the Creator. But that will change.
