Sort of a side comment, tangential to this discussion - Our medical and healthcare may be far superior here in this country, but it is not available to everyone. My husband has had an untreated, painful hernia for more than a year and we can't afford to get it treated. I have a variety of health problems, some of which possibly stem from a brain tumor, but I can't go to the doctor because I have no money. I just pray and know that God will take care of me and if I die, I will go home to Christ. I believe He has stuff for me to do though, so He will sustain me until I complete my tasks!
I don't know much about Canada, but I know a bit about the Netherlands. I worked for Dutch company and traveled there quite a bit. There, they get paid a bit less than we do for similar jobs, and they pay maybe 30-40% in income taxes. However, we really pay that much as well, at least most of us do, when you factor in your 25-29% federal income tax, state income tax, social secutiry tax, medicare tax. They also get 6-10 weeks paid vacation a year.
Overall, the people there seem much happier and healthier to me than Americans do. Employed people pay a flat rate (~1000 USD/year) which entitles them to all the healthcare they need, but there may be waiting lists sometimes. I have never heard a Dutch person complain about their access to healthcare though, so it must be pretty decent.
***I know we are blessed in this country, but I think many in this country do not have the same benefits a lot of the rest do, and those that have them are often blind to the suffering in their own country. I don't know what the solution is, but I think we do need some changes. As I have said before though, I feel we can't really hope for change in this huge place we live, and that we who have needs should just rely upon the Lord to take care of us despite the flaws in the system.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The summer of love has given way to the autumn of fear in San Francisco, a liberal stronghold where residents bitterly disappointed by the Bush victory are in no mood to reach out and mend divisions.
Rather, they are waving "United States of Canada" maps, redrawn to show Canada extending down to include California, New England and the other so-called "blue states" that voted decisively for Massachusetts Democratic Senator John Kerry in the U.S. presidential race.
Some are cancelling plans to travel to neighbouring "red states," where Bush drew most of his support. They are asking serious questions about the future of American democracy. And the usual post-election bravado about moving out of the country when a favoured candidate loses is sounding different this year. It sounds a lot more serious.
"I'm going in on Monday and getting a new passport," said an electronics technician and volunteer at the Green Festival environmental conference who requested anonymity.
"I'm not leaving yet, but I'm getting prepared," he said. "I can imagine that this country is going to get a lot worse before it gets better."
Representative Dennis Kucinich, a Democrat who competed with Kerry for his party's presidential nomination before backing the senator, urged the crowd at the festival to remain hopeful and connect with the other concerned citizens.
But the questions Kucinich fielded were anything but hopeful.
"Why should we believe we will ever have another fair election in this country?" asked one woman.
After the well-publicsed electoral chaos in Florida in 2000, the United States invited international observers to monitor the November 2 election. Despite widespread allegations of electoral fraud before last week's vote, they were unable to substantiate the claims.
The woman's frustration was echoed throughout San Francisco, arguably the most liberal city in one of the most Democratic states in the country. On Tuesday, 83.3 percent of voters in San Francisco County cast their ballots for Kerry, compared with 62.8 percent in Los Angeles County and 54.7 percent statewide.
STAYING OUT OF RED STATES
Peace and tolerance have long been the words to live by in San Francisco, known for its large gay community, broad ethnic mix and frequent anti-war protests. But days after the election, many residents said they were so worried about an erosion of civil rights, environmental standards and the escalating violence in the Middle East, that they did not know how they could tolerate the Bush administration, or Americans who voted to re-elect him.
"I have family in Idaho, but I told my wife we're not going to visit them now. It's all Republicans there," said Ron Schmidt, a public relations executive. "We have family in Indiana and I don't want to go there either."
It was not the reaction George W. Bush must have been hoping for when he made his acceptance speech on Wednesday and told Kerry supporters: "I will need your support and I will work to earn it."
Schmidt said: "The ideologies of the two parties are too different. I don't see how healing can take place. I feel like the disenfranchised minority now, and that's a funny thing for a tall, good-looking white guy like me to say."
Schmidt's friend, magazine editor Joseph Connelly, said one of his columnists who had moved temporarily to Paris six months ago decided Wednesday she would settle there permanently.
"She was hoping she would want to come back," Connelly said, "but after she saw the election results she just didn't."

I have been worrying about this since my computer crashed. I hate not having the facts in my hands. At least someone else heard the clips. I didn't want everyone to think I was a loony or something. On second thought, you probably already do.
I wish my post would have gone through before the crash. I had the Jesus map, and ALL kinds of anti-Bush posts, news etc. I was surfing through tons and tons of blogs, news articles, editorials, EVERYTHING lol trying to find something on the CNN show and couldn't find anything. Lol, I must have read the transcripts on half the shows on CNN. I just can't remember what day the show was on that had the succession topic.
Anyway, thanks for the post Eagle. Now I can relax a bit.

I wonder how many people that favor socialism are actually willing to give more in taxes than they owe since they believe so much in communism/socialism...
I doubt there are many left wingers that actually do this.
I also wonder how many Democrats that complain about environmental issues are actually taking a stance in their own lives concerning the environment...Like stop driving, flying ect...
I keep hearing about the greenhouse effect...Isn't that what we want ?
I read a study that if the ice did melt because of heat that most of the water would be in the form of a vapor and the result would be more vegetation...Not New York under water.
Of course we are being bombarded with so much conflicting information these days it becomes harder to tell what the truth is concerning these things...
All I know is that Jesus is the Truth...

Oh please imigrate to Canada???? Has anyone seen that those folks pay in taxes? We used to have a mod here from Canada. We bought the same car. His cost him sevral thousand dollars more than mine. I think like almost 6K more! He spends more in income tax every year than I make! The taxes on consumer goods are also through the roof and health care,,,, is that what people think is worth this? The quality of healthcare under socialized medicine is very very different than the healthcare that we have here in America. I just do not understand it. Canda is beautiful and I love the food. But I dont think even Hillary Clinton as president would make me want to imigrate. And that is about as ugly as I can imagine right now, except maybe a replay of Bill.

I tell the truth my friend, I do not exaggerate if I can help it. I don't want to have to explain anything at the feet of my Lord on that day. Even though I am heavily partisan, I would never make up something like that. That to me is very serious and telling of the times we live. I'm not saying you insinuated that, I understand your concern. But I wanted to get that out of the way. I have never been a liar. Yes, I have lied, but I hold to the truth as much as I can. That being said, I'll let you in on the information I have.
I heard the actual clips from the show about it on the Ann Coultier (SP?) show this morning and it was on CNN I believe. I don't have any more information because I was driving to school and I am at school now. However, the commentator on the CNN show talked about succession and possible civil war (if this will actually happen is another story, but they are talking about it.) I'm sure you can find the quotes somewhere, but I don't have the time right now to find them. I'm hoping that there will be something in print later but I'm not sure. If you can get transcripts of yesterdays shows on CNN you might be able to find it. I do have one source in print that gives a clue to the mindset on the left though. Here it is:

The reason I mentioned that in this post was because I feel a deepening rift forming in our country. The left is totally insensed about this election year and are losing their minds basically. If all of us God-fearing Christians can be removed from the scene, things will change overnight. I am starting to believe that this will happen soon.

The earth has been rumbling and shaking for the past month ever increasingly. Signs are all over the place for His coming. I pray that it will be soon. I sense the spiritual battle heating up and the Middle East becoming increasingly chaotic. Pray for Israel and the U.S. Also, pray for those who are lost! Time is running out. With all the talks of succession and civil war being discussed on the left, I feel our time is almost up here. I'm ready Lord, this place has nothing for me anymore. This tired and weary vessel is ready for a change...
