I agree! I read that Russian Premier Krushev (I know I spelled it wrong) claimed to America , around 1960, that "He (Communist Russian) would bury us, and that our grandchildren would be communists."

I'm not quoting him word for word, but that was the general idea of what he said.

His statment is being being fulfilled before our eyes, and many Americans are spouting Marxist beliefs, thinking it's an American belief.

Anyway, that topic would need to be on another topic heading. [Smile]

Thunderz7,

I agree, it ain't the style, it's what's behind the music. I think the reason rock get a worse rap is because it's newer and less established than country & western. To be fair though, C&W has provided a lot more Christ-oriented songs than rock has, particularly heavy metal. Granted, the artists may ultimately prove to be hypocrites, but we listeners are still moved in our hearts.

I love music, and listen to about every kind except techno, but I also recognize that most of it, even classical, contains notes of the devil. But forewarned is forearmed.

White Eagle,

I've long maintained that the average American, Joe six-pack, has no idea of the degree to which Communism has infiltrated the arts and the media over the last 50 years. Record companies are going to give the contracts to the bands that will sell the most records. I'm sorry, it's capitalism... if you want to keep your kids safe from Devil music, I hear Libya is a good place to move to.

And may I nominate the quote of the week here?

quote:
Communism is part of Satan's ideas just as these musicians who sold their souls.

heh. That one actually made me laugh.
Since I'm the "commie hater" I feel I need to address this.

I added the Communist part after I listened to the link the White Sands provided. It made me think of the 60's, and the huge social upheaval the country went through, Vietnam, hippies, the music, sexual immorality, drugs, etc.

I'm certainly not out to ban free enterpise.

I'm totally surprised that the Communist remark would have caused a Christian to laugh. Communist China and Russia and other countries were against religion and put people in jail for their beliefs. They used fear and intimidation to control people. It wasn't a good thing.

I do believe that Communists or socialists if you wish, used America's free market place of ideas against us with various propganda including the music. The tape I listened to about the Beatles was showing that they had agendas far above just making money.

Likewise, Al Qaida attacked us, by mocking our "911" and doing their attack on that date of 9/11. They used America's freedoms and our own planes to attack us.

Does that mean I think we should not have freedom and that we should "burn" tapes, CD's and not fly on planes anymore?

NO. I'm just pointing out that America's enemies use our own freedoms and pervert them to attack us.

If that's funny to you so be it. I've said my piece. [Smile] I'll be happy to be known as a "commie hater".

How is a "rocker", who plainly claims to be satanic,
more dangerous
than the "country" star who claims to be born again, but sings of honky-tonks, bars, drunken binges, dope smoking, adultry, fornication, divorce, murder, so no and so on.

The statement I have often heard "so called Christians" make---
"rock is the devil's music, but don't take my country music",
is as asinine a statement as has ever been made.

Rock, is a life style,
Country and western, is a life style.
Neither are Christian.

Having been involved in both for much too long,
I say, secular music is secular.
To say one kind is more dangerous than another is ludicrous.
What you put into yourself, is what will come out in times of trial and trouble.

Forever His,

There are a couple of CDs I could recommend which might give you an inkling of where to look. I know that because the originate from a secular movie, that some people might be skeptical, but the music speaks for itself. The soundtrack from 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' contains a large number of great "old-timey" blue-grass gospel songs. In addition, the follow-up CD 'Down from the Mountain' has the same gospel artist playing the same songs to a live audience.

Emmy Lou Harris also has an alblum called 'Angel Band' that is made up of old time gospel and blue-grass hymns.

Yes it is the lyrics....And the lyrics of some seemlessly harmless songs promote things that the Bible warns us against.

Not to mention music can have an effect on emotion and thoughts...Then you combine questionable lyrics with emotion and it's a combination that can slowly lead a person the wrong way...

I understand what you're saying whitesands, but seriously... what do you propose to do? Burn records, tapes and CD's like they did books? You're saying that because someone likes the tune of a song on the radio that they're going to become morally corrupted even if they don't know the words... "humming" or whatever. But I would disagree with that.

All music is made up of notes and chords played in a single key of the musician's choosing. The Rolling Stone's "Sympathy for the Devil" has a dominant melody of E D A E. Well, there are countless songs using this dominant chord progression... actually, a very pretty sounding chord progression for those of you who play an instrument.

The truth is, most chord progressions in modern commercial rock, rap, or metal are not unique... with my ear, I notice most are borrowed from jazz, blues. But most of the blues and jazz artists had borrowed from classical artists. Just listen to louie Armstrong and you might get the picture.

So, I do agree with the commie-hater. It really isn't the music... it's the lyrics.

Well, not everyone is always aware of the name of the artist or band that sings a particular song when it comes on the radio...They may find themselves singing it or humming it without recognizing the words...

And it's not just the "artists" you named that are unfluenced by the evil one...There are many others.

Hi Kristi, I am wonderin in you an Betty would have mercy upon a poor sinner like me... See cause I aint "seen the light" [Big Grin] [Kiss] But I would like too [Smile]

Seriously I am the worship leader at church and I have been trying to incorporate different styles of music into worship. I have put together my own version of "washed in the blood" into bluegrass. I was very worried when I first introduced it into our practise time, thinking that it might be a bit "wild" but it is now one of our favorites.

I would like some more bluegrass music so I picked up "the stained glass hour" "bluegrass and old time gospel" but I am wanting some more of the older standards... I want to "see the light" so do you have any good suggestion's for musician's and perhaps a cd title or two...

Thank you and God Bless

Being self employed I am very blessed to be able to listen to christian radio (Moody) all day long and it keeps my mind focused upon that which is truly important. One thing to keep in mind though is that while satan is seeking to draw our attentions away from God, God has His ways and means commitee seeking to draw us all back unto Him... just like He did starting with Adam and continuing right on down too you, and me.

2Sam.14:14 For we must needs die, and [are] as water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect [any] person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.

ForeverHis...That kid would probably laugh at me If I told him that...You are exactly right!!! I myself have a huge stero system and was caught up in it just as your neighbor down the street...I don't listen to it anymore but I was so blind back then and just didn't know it or realize the implications or effects it had on me..

I used to hear people tell me the same thing I'm talking about and I used to look at them like they have lost their mind...lol..My own father for example...I didn't know how right he was until now!

WhiteEagle,

It's weird how messages can get sent through a song and a person won't even realize what is being said...

When I listened to that program it made me think intensely when he highlighted actual phrases and exposed who these guys got their philosophies from...

Music is very powerful and has perhaps even more influence upon us that we realize. I know that Hollywood uses it to move it's audience from a state of peacefulness and joy to that of suspense and fear, and back again to wherever they wish... music touches our very innermost being. So it is evident that music has a power for evil or good.

So I hear you Whitesands777 however there are a few things that I have pondered... if I go to my young neighbor with the $3000.00 stereo that you can hear for 3/4 of a mile and tell him "this is of the devil" I suspect that I had better not report a missionary visit next week in sharing time at church. If I tell him this is a "horrible" noise... how can you listen to it? I doubt that I will reach his heart. Somehow I suspect that pointing out that they are being hyptnotised will not likely give them the "warm fuzzies" [Kiss]

As for me I pretty much avoid secular music, not because it may be bad, or even demonic. Sometimes secular music can actually be very good and pleasant... however I really don't want it in my "hardrive" because sometimes I get stuck on repeat [Smile] I hate that when I am wanting to focus on God and this tune is rattling around in my mind [BooHoo]

I personally think that one of Satan's greatest tricks is to give people any variety of music that they want... Music that will catch their attention and keep their minds diverted away from spiritual thing's... Have you ever noticed how so many people in North America almost have noooooooooooo silent time in their lives... The TV is on, or the radio, cd, player and now the internet... all used to keep ones mind and heart from having an intimate relationship with God...

God Bless
Forever His

White sands:

I listened to the link you provided, and it's very sobering. I have in the past heard many things about the groups like the Rolling Stones, Beatles and ACDC, KISS, and others like Jim Morrison, the Eagles, that they all had ties to demonic influences. That tape I heard tonight brings back all the bad memories of those past things, I knew about and offers even more insight into the agendas of those like the Beatles who did want to cause a "Revolution" in America.

I believe that in part the 1960's social upheavals were orchestrated by Communism which is atheistic. Communism is part of Satan's ideas just as these musicians who sold their souls.

I see that America has been going on a downhill spiral ever since the 1960's

I'm 48, so I was just 7 yrs old when the Beatles first came to be popular. I was brought up in church, and was told how bad some of these groups were, and stayed away from their music. I never liked the Beatles music much, and felt they were communists, I didn't think they were Satanists to boot.

You're right it's an eye opener.

It's the words that these groups use in their songs, that tell their message. I guess I haven't been listening as well as I should have.

Hey WhiteEagle...glad you like my handle [Smile]

Well, for the most part it is the message that comes across....But also, what most people don't realize is that the different tones and the sequence in which they are used can influence emotion and thoughts while the false message is being delivered...Sort of like hyptnotism.

Have you ever listened to a song and thought it was just great but really didn't quite understand the actual lyrics ? Sometimes a person can even find themselves singing the songs, knowing the actual lyrics but not actualy realizing what it means until they stop and really think about the words and their meanings...I've done this before...

Is it any wonder that the most disgraceful music and artists are actually the most popular and embraced by the world ?

Look at the lives of these people and how many of their lives have been utterly destroyed by living the lie that they sung in their songs...

Even bands that people think are good like the backstreet boys will glorify immorlity in their songs...

Creed, for example is thought to be a Christian band by many...However the band itself has declared that "we are not a christian band."

They even admitted that their song "Higher" was influenced by a book on mysticisim...

Here's another link with a really good interview with the guy that runs the website...He is also the pastor of a church...Actually let me recommend that you listen to this interview with him before you venture to his websit because you will get a better understanding and it, in my honest opinion, will open your eyes......This is a christian radio broadcast.

Hello White sands:

Your name conjures up very pleasant visions of a beach, and sunshine. It's currently a downpour here where I live.

I agree that alot of popular secular music is not very edifiying and much of it needs to be shunned by believers and kept out of hearing of underage children. (We're all Children) [Smile]

But... it's not so much the music that I find "demonic" or unwholesome with a few exceptions. It's the words in the songs that are the problem. I do believe that some musicians do have an assignment from Satan.

I'm not very familiar with what young people are listening to now, but I have heard enough when my children were still at home. Most songs talked about negative things and doing negative things, and much of the 90's music didn't even have a beat I'd call music, and I like Bon Jovi. and some of ZZ Top, just to say, I do like rock.

I talked with them about their music and how the words were negative, I didn't ban it when they were older teens. I would play praise music and they were taught right from wrong. I told them I didn't want to listen to their music, because I found it to cause feelings of depression and I pointed this out to them. Then my son pointed out a group he liked that was more positve and it promoted the Pro-life view and the musicians were Christian.

He also pointed out to me the song that was playing in a young man's room when he committed suicide 1 year after the Columbine shootings. This young man had survived the shootings, and was innocent of anything, but he took his life in despair. I sure listening to the words of hopelessness of that song didn't help him.

Words are a powerful tool, and as I'm sure you are aware, when put to music become spiritual more impacting.

I like most music, rock, folk, classical, even some country, if it's not too nasal and twangy. [Smile]

So is it really the music that's the problem or is it the words?

You know we've all heard the phrase "that's the devil's music"....I used to think it was silly to think that rock and roll was a tool for satan to glorify his lies and decieve the masses...

Oh how I was wrong....When I became saved I stopped listening to all forms of worldly music unless it was music that glorified the Lord Jesus...

I didn't realize how much of an impact music has and just how deceptive and satanic today's popular music is and many of these artists are influenced by demonic spirits...

Here's a good link to lear more with lots of short video clips and expose's on different artists...Be forewarned that it is a little scary...Especially when you actually hear artists being taken over and you hear different personalities coming through at their concerts...From the the beach boys to jim morrison have even admitted to getting their songs from demonic sources...Here's the link

good fight
