The Greek EU Presidency Begins
I believe 2003 may prove very decisive for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Israel is desperate. The Oslo Accords, the process of Israel trading land to the Palestinians for peace, has been a complete disaster. Israel's security has never been in so much question as it is at the beginning of 2003.
As I've said before, no matter what they call it -- Oslo, Mitchell, Tenant, Saudi, or Road Map, this peace process will only lead Israel to destruction. The Apostle Paul said:
"While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape" (1 Thessalonians 5:3 New American Standard Bible).
In this passage Paul was simply reminding the early Thessalonian Christian what Jesus and the Old Testament prophet Daniel had said about the coming of the Lord and the appearing of the Antichrist (Matthew 24:15, Daniel 9:27). As you may know, the Antichrist is to come from this revival of the old Roman Empire we are seeing in this new, super European Union.
Here's where things are getting even more interesting: On January 1, 2003, Greece took over the EU six-month rotating presidency. And, on July 1, 2003, Italy will take over the EU presidency from Greece. Why is this interesting? Let me try to explain.
This order of who controls the EU's six-month rotating presidency in 2003 -- Greece followed by Italy (Rome) -- is the same order of Gentile kingdoms we find foretold in the book of Daniel that will rise to rule over Israel, Greece followed by Rome (Daniel 2: 31-45, 10: 20-21, 9: 26).
Of course, we know this prophecy was about ancient Greece and Rome. However, it's interesting to note the possibility of the same order repeating in Europe with the foretold revival of the old Roman Empire.
Furthermore, at the end of the Greek presidency the EU beast will have its summit. And, guess what? This summit will be held in the Greek city of Thessaloniki.
Ironically, it was also to the Christians in Thessaloniki that Paul sent his two most in-depth letters in the New Testament about the return of Christ and the coming Antichrist.
Yes indeed, if ever there was a year for Christ's followers to get serious about Bible prophecy, it's 2003.

It's coming along, taking it's shape slowly but surely. I'm gonna go read about what it says about Greece and their part and their outcomes, assuming now that Greece is Europe. I am thinking that during the upcoming conflict is when America will be taken over by 'pirates' and that maybe England (Britain) will be moving more closely with Europe?
You were right to point your finger at Georges Papandreou. Spread the word and keep more minds on the watch.

Greece takes over EU Presidency

Greece pledged yesterday to forge ahead with its hefty agenda to advance EU enlargement and social policy and to tackle immigration as it took over responsibility of the Union’s six month rotating presidency.
Greek Foreign Minister, Georges Papandreou, said he was undeterred by the possible effects of a pending war with Iraq. "Iraq or not, these dossiers will be tackled," he assured. Greek Prime Minister, Costas Simitis, added that "the Greek presidency will try to form a common front to face the Iraqi problem," reports Le Figaro.
Enlargement
As far as enlargement is concerned, the big date for the Presidency will be the signing of the accession treaty on 16 April in Athens. Greece is looking forward to the diplomatic victory of the entry of Cyprus into the EU. A decision must be taken by 28 February as to whether the entire island or only Greek Cyprus will be allowed to join.
Athens also hopes to play a crucial role in stabilising the Balkans and opening the way for Romania and Bulgaria to join the EU in 2007. In addition, the Greeks are pushing for Croatia to present its EU candidacy.
Institutional Reform
On the reform of the European institutions, Greece will attempt to play an intermediary role between the Convention on the future of Europe and the next Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) – the meeting of EU heads of state to amend existing EU treaties. The Convention must produce its plan for a future Constitution in June but the IGC will have the final word. Tannos Yannitsis, Greek Minister for Europe, would like this work also to begin in June at the Thessaloniki Summit.
Immigration
A further priority of the Greek Presidency will be the promotion of a "European social policy" to boost employment and combat social exclusion. But even more effort will be concentrated on dealing with immigration. The Greeks aim to strike a balance between the necessity to control migratory fluxes and meeting humanitarian and economic demands. According to Mr Papendreou, security arguments must be considered but not at the cost of forgetting to address racism. "Immigration could be a real plus in facing the problems of an aging population or competitiveness," he said.
