Netanyahu: "There can be no compromise with terror"
JERUSALEM (AP) -- The apparent firing of missiles on an Israeli passenger plane Thursday marked a "dangerous escalation of terror," Israeli Foreign Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu said Israel had no information on who was responsible for Thursday's double attack -- the firing of missiles toward an Arkia airlines passenger plane after takeoff from Mombasa, Kenya, and a simultaneous explosion at a Mombasa hotel. The hotel is Israeli-owned and most of the guests are Israelis.
No one was hurt aboard the aircraft, but Netanyahu said two Israeli children were killed in the attack on the Paradise Hotel. Israel TV's Channel Two said a total of three Israelis were killed in the explosion.
Netanyahu said the apparent missile attack "is a very dangerous escalation of terror."
"It means that terror organizations and the regimes behind them are able to arm themselves with weapons which can cause mass casualties anywhere and everywhere," Netanyahu said. "Today, they're firing the missiles at Israeli planes, tomorrow they'll fire missiles at American planes, British planes, every country's aircraft. Therefore, there can be no compromise with terror."
Israel was sending a plane with doctors to Kenya to help treat and evacuate the wounded.
