Moderate Earthquake Hits Central Japan, No Immediate Reports of Damage or Injuries

T O K Y O, July 23 — A strong earthquake rattled the Tokyo area early Wednesday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The 5.8-magnitude quake struck at 5:05 a.m. and was centered about 145 miles northeast of Tokyo, the Meteorological Agency said.
There was no danger of tsunami, or powerful ocean waves generated by seismic activity, the agency said.
Japan is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries as it sits atop four tectonic plates, slabs of land that move across the earth's surface
