CBN.com – (Charisma News Service) He has spoken for the first time since an accident put him into a coma.

Heralded as "a Christmas miracle," Christian singer Pat Boone's grandson, whose horrific three-story fall left him near death, has spoken for the first time since the accident put him into a coma 18 months ago.

In an interview with CNN talk show host Larry King, Ryan Corbin recited the pledge of allegiance. King also showed a video clip in which Corbin sang along with a girl and his mother.

Appearing on the Christmas Day program with Boone, his mother, sister and pastor, Corbin also spelled out King's last name, to which the interviewer responded: "I'm hearing it too. He's going to make it."

The outlook had seemed bleak for Corbin in June 2001, when he was severely injured in a freak fall. He fractured his skull, broke his jaw and ruptured his spleen.

But today, Corbin, now 26, is just starting to talk in whispers, a few words at a time, after a medical ordeal that included six hospitals, four operations, 36 units of blood, doctors who asked family members to consider when they wanted to shut down his life-support system, five months in a coma, and hundreds of hours in rehabilitation therapy.

"He's Exhibit A for the power of prayer," Boone told the "Los Angeles Times." "You can only attribute his recovery, in light of the medical prognosis, to God."

Within days of Corbin's accident, family members asked Christians through churches and on the Internet to pray for his recovery. Boone has appeared on "Larry King Live" four times, asking viewers around the world to pray for his eldest grandson.

"One of the questions people say when there is a tragedy is where is God in all of this?" Ryan's pastor, Rick Warren, who leads Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., told King. "I'll tell you where He is, He's in His people. Thousands of people rallied around this family. He is in the godly people around them."

Although Corbin still requires 24-hour care and needs a stomach tube because he's not eating enough calories, this was his first Christmas at home since the accident.

"This is certainly the best Christmas I've ever had," Lindy Michaelis, Corbin's mother and the daughter of Boone, said. "He's living with us, he knows who we are, he knows his life has purpose. Seeing him, it's easy to point to a loving God."

When asked by King to predict Corbin's progress in a year, Boone responded: "I believe he's going to be walking, talking and then maybe some -- maybe eating on his own."

Boone said doctors "have given up predicting." "He's come so far beyond what they expected that they say, well, how can you possibly impose any limits on how far he can come," he told King. "We believe day by day he shows us more and more."

Mark Desmond, director of High Hopes, a head-injury program that Corbin attends twice a week, told the "Times": "He laughs and jokes now. He's a miracle. Can you attribute that to God? Yes. To great family support? Yes. And to his faith and people who have been praying for him all over the world."
