Characteristics of this holy day of Yahweh

Observed in the seventh month, the tenth day of the month (Once per year)

No work is to be done

Yahweh will destroy anyone who works on this day

All are required to afflict their souls

Anyone who does not afflict their soul will be cut off

Priest makes atonement for us to cleanse us from all of our sins

Atonement is made for the Holy Sanctuary, Tabernacle of meeting and the altar

Atonement is made for the priests and the people of the congregation

It is a statute forever

Acts performed for a High Priest to enter the Holy of Holies (Leviticus 16, verse numbers in parenthesis)

Yahweh dwells there in the form of a cloud (2)

High Priest forbidden to enter unless: (2)

He has a Ram for a burnt offering (3)

He has a bull for a sin offering (3)

He must wash and wear the holy garments: (4)

A linen tunic (4)

Linen trousers (4)

A linen sash to be girded with (4)

A linen turban (4)

1 ram as a burnt offering and 2 kids of the goats as a sin offering from the congregation to present them before Yahweh at the tabernacle of meeting (5)

Cast lots, one goat for Yahweh, the other is the scapegoat (8)

Goat for Yahweh (8)
Scapegoat (8)
Bull for the High Priest
and his house (3, 6)

Offered as a sin offering for the people
Sprinkle blood on the east side of the mercy seat (15)
Sprinkle blood 7 times before the mercy seat (15)
Makes atonement for the holy place because of the uncleanness of Israel (16)
No man can be present in the tabernacle of meeting when this is being done. (17)
Sprinkle blood all around on the horns of the altar 7 times (18)

Presented alive to make atonement on it. (10)
Lay both hands on the head of this live goat and confess the sins of Israel (21)
Goat would bear all the iniquities (22)
Goat is sent away into the wilderness, into an uninhabited land (22)

Take a censer full of burning coals from the altar and sweet incense beaten fine and go into the holy of holies (12)
Incense creates a cloud to cover the mercy seat, lest he die (13)
Take the blood of the bull, sprinkle with his finger on the east side of the mercy seat and before the mercy seat 7 times (14)
Sprinkle blood all around on the horns of the altar 7 times (18)

Remove holy garments and wash body with water in a holy place (23)

Offer the two rams as a burnt offering, one for the priest and one for the people (24)

Fat of the sin offering is burnt on the altar (25)

The blood of the bull and goat from sin offerings are carried outside the camp (27)

Skins, flesh and offal are burned (27)

The Messiah's fulfillment of this day (Fulfill does not mean abolish)

Hebrews, Chapter 9

First covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary

High Priest enters the Holy of holies, not without blood but with an offering for himself and the people's sins in ignorance

The way into the holy of holies was not yet clear while the first tabernacle was still standing

These things are symbolic for the present time

Gifts and sacrifices cannot perfect the conscience

Ordinances until time of reformation (A word meaning to straighten thoroughly, compare Isaiah 40:4)

Messiah came as a High priest of the good things to come, with a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not of this creation Messiah entered that tabernacle with His own blood, entering the holy of holies

Once for all

Having obtained eternal redemption

Blood of bulls & goats sets apart for the cleansing of the flesh, the blood of Messiah through the everlasting Spirit offered Himself unblemished to Elohim will cleanse the conscience from dead works to serve the living Elohim.

For this reason He is the mediator of the new covenant

By means of death

For the redemption of transgressions under the first covenant

So that those who are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance

Without shedding of blood there is no remission

Both covenants involve the shedding of blood

The copies of what is in the heavens, the tabernacle, required purification by the blood of bull and goats. But what is in the heavens required a better sacrifice than this, Yahushua!

Messiah appears in the presence of Elohim for us

Messiah is offered once, not often

As it is appointed unto man to die once, then the judgment

He put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself

For the sins of many

To those who eagerly wait for Him, He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation

HalleluYah!!!!!!

Thats nice but Barry , brother 2 bROTHER ITS NOT A BLUE THREAD of latter day wisdom.

Please stop your sillyness.

The Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur came on the tenth day of the
seventh month (Tishri-Sept./Oct.) and the fifth day before the feast
of tabernacles (Lev. 16:1-34; Num. 29:7-11). According to Leviticus
23:27-28, four main elements comprise this most significant feast.

First, it was to be a "holy convocation," drawing the focus of the
people to the altar of divine mercy. The Holy One of Israel called
the people of Israel to gather in His presence and give their
undivided attention to Him.

Secondly, they were to "humble their souls" ("afflict your souls,"
Lev. 23:27). This is the ONLY BIBLICALLY required and specified FAST
DAY of the year. Fasting is good for the soul, and this 10th and
final day of seeking to find God's grace to find repentance, fasting
is a good idea. Israel understood that this was a day for mourning
over their sins. The seriousness of this requirement is reiterated in
Leviticus 23:29, "For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be
afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his
people."

Thirdly, offerings are central to the day of atonement. The Bible
devotes an entire chapter (Lev. 16) to them. They are also listed in
Numbers 29:7-11. In addition to these, when the day fell on a
Sabbath, the regular Sabbath offerings were offered.

The fourth and final element of the day involved the prohibition of
labor. The day of atonement was a "Sabbath of rest" (Lev. 23:32), and
the Israelites were forbidden to do any work at all. If they
disobeyed, they were liable to capital punishment (Lev. 23:30).

The center point of this feast involved the high priest entering the
most holy place, where only the high priest could go, and only on
this ONE day of the year, to make atonement for the sins of the
nation of Israel.

Before entering, the high priest first bathed his entire body, going
beyond the mere washing of hands and feet as required for other
occasions. This washing symbolized his desire for purification.
Rather than donning his usual robe and colorful garments (described
in Ex. 28 and Lev. 8), he was commanded to wear special garments of
linen. Also, the high priest sacrificed a bullock as a sin offering
for himself and for his house (Lev. 16:6). After filling his censer
with live coals from the altar, he entered the most holy place where
he placed incense on the coals. Then he took some of the blood from
the slain bullock and sprinkled it on the mercy seat ("atonement
cover,") and also on the ground in front of the ark, providing
atonement for the priesthood (Lev. 16:14-15).

Next he sacrificed a male goat as a sin offering for the people. Some
of this blood was then also taken into the most holy place and
sprinkled there on behalf of the people (Lev. 16:11-15). The blood
was sprinkled on the mercy seat for a KIPPUR or covering of the sins
of the people of the nation of Israel. Then he took another goat,
called the "scapegoat" (for "escape goat"), laid his hands on its
head, confessed over it the sins of Israel, and then released it into
the desert where it symbolically carried away the sins of the people
(Lev. 16:8,10). The remains of the sacrificial bullock and male goat
were taken outside the city and burned, and the day was concluded
with additional sacrifices.

According to Hebrews chapters 8, 9, &10, this ritual is a symbol of
the atoning work of Messiah, our great high Priest. He did not need
to make any sacrifice for Himself but shed His own blood for our
sins. As the high priest of the Old Testament entered the most holy
place with the blood of sacrificial animals, Yahshua, Yahshua entered
heaven itself to appear on our behalf in front of the Father (Heb.
9:11,12).

Each year the high priest repeated his sin offerings for his own sin
and the sins of the people, giving an annual reminder that perfect
and permanent atonement had NOT yet been made. But Yahshua, through
His own blood, accomplished eternal redemption for His people (Heb.
9:12). Just as the sacrifice of the day of atonement was burned
outside the camp of Israel, Yahshua suffered outside the gate of
Jerusalem, being sacrificed on the day of preparation for Passover,
on a Roman Cross, at dark, Wednesday, Nissan 14, 30 CE. Truly,
Messiah Yahshua, is BOTH our Passover, and Our Great High Priest. His
Blood, only His blood, can be the KIPPUR for our sins. He sacrificed
His own Blood so that He might redeem His people from sin (Heb.
13:11,12).

The modern Jewish Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) is devoid of blood
sacrifice; but, does include a ten-day period (called "days of awe")
of penitence, prayer, and fasting, in preparation for the most solemn
day on the Jewish religious calendar. The feast of Rosh Hashanah (the
head of the year) initiates this ten-day period. How sad is the
traditional Jewish greeting at Yom Kippur - "I hope your name is
written in the book of Life." How wonderfully different it is for
those who KNOW Messiah Yahshua, who thereby may KNOW their name is
written in the Book of Life.

And just where is this putting Forth Christ ?

Oh I see more shadow talk.

Please stop your sillyness.

Judge Not—Judge All Things

By Cornelius R. Stam

How often, in our efforts to "stand" for the truth and "withstand" error, we have been taken to task with the use of such Scripture passages as "Judge not, that ye be not judged" (Matt. 7:1) and "the servant of the Lord must not strive" (II Tim. 2:24).

These passages taken by themselves and out of context can induce weak believers to great irresponsibility, but it is our purpose in this article to examine the Scriptures as a whole and see what they have to say about judging others, or judging what they say or do.

The Scriptures have much to say about judging others and several synonyms are used. Since, however, one Greek word, "krino" is most often used in discussing this subject, and since this is the word our Lord used when He said, "Judge not," we will deal only with those passages in which this Greek root "krino" (to judge) and its derivatives, "anakrino" (to judge strictly) and "diakrino" (to judge thoroughly) are used. In this way there can at least be little or no "strife about words."

If the interpretation so often placed upon our Lord's words, "Judge not," were consistent with the Scriptures as a whole, we would not—indeed, should not—have had a Scofield, a Darby, a Calvin, a Luther—or a Paul, for those who interpret it thus surely would have taken strong exception as Paul and Barnabas "had no small dissension and disputation" with the Judaizers who had come to Antioch, seeking to bring the Gentile believers there under the Law, or as later at Jerusalem, Paul "gave place by subjection" to these same Judaizers, "no, not for an hour, that the truth of the gospel might continue with [the Gentiles]" (Acts 15:2; Gal. 2:5).

As to the root word "krino," (to judge), it should be observed at the outset that some of the passages using this word urge us not to judge, while others teach as strongly that we should judge, indeed, that "he that is spiritual judgeth all things" (I Cor. 2:15), so that the interpretation of any Scriptural statement on judging must be determined, not by any "private interpretation," but in the light of the context and/or of related Scripture passages.

JUDGE NOT

"Judge not, that ye be not judged" (Matt. 7:1).

Our Lord's words here have, of course, to do with judging persons (obviously for what they do or fail to do), but Verse 5 indicates that they have reference to a certain type of critic, "Thou hypocrite," or one who has a "beam" in his own eye, while criticizing the "mote" (any small, dry particle) in his brother's eye. Such a critic would surely not be the "spiritual" person of I Corinthians 2:15. Thus Matthew 7:1,2 is a warning that if you are too quick to judge others, you may expect others to judge you. The parallel passage in Luke 6:37,38 brings this out even more forcefully. Paul, also, in Romans 2:1, says to those who hypocritically condemn others:

"...wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things."

In Romans 14:4-13 the Apostle has an extended exhortation on such readiness to judge others. Dealing with the friction between those on the one hand who feel free to "eat all things," and those on the other who are convicted that they should only "eat herbs," he says:

"Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth; for God hath received him" (Ver. 3).

In Verses 10,12 he urges those on both sides to refrain from criticizing each other since all of us—each one individually—will one day give a personal account to God:

"But why dost thou judge thy brother?1 or why dost thou set at nought thy brother?2 for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ."

"So then, every one of us shall give account of himself to God."

And he concludes:

"Let us not therefore judge one another any more; but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way" (Ver. 13).

It is important to note that all this has to do with judging one another as to way of life; indeed, Romans 14 has to do with judging one another in matters not specifically dealt with in the Word of God. Such judgment should be left to Christ, at whose "judgment seat" we shall all one day stand. In the same vein the Apostle says in I Corinthians 4:5:

"Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God."

Let us then rather be criticized than to criticize, rather be judged than to judge—except in matters where God has given us the clear knowledge of His will. To the Galatians, for example, who had been enticed to go back under the Law after Christ had so gloriously set them free, the Apostle wrote:

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage" (Gal. 5:1).

And then he proceeds to tell them in stern language how they will belittle Christ, and what the results will be if they continue in their course.

Thus too, he writes to the brethren at Colosse, this time urging them not to accept the criticisms of those who would bring them under the Law:

"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

"Which are a shadow of things to come, but the Body [i.e., the substance] is of Christ" (Col. 2:16,17).

HE THAT IS SPIRITUAL JUDGETH ALL THINGS

But where God has clearly made His truth and will known believers should judge between truth and error, not only "standing" for what is right, but "withstanding" what is wrong (Eph. 6:11,13), and this often involves "judging" and "withstanding" persons involved. Using the same root, krino, the Apostle says:

"But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man" (I Cor. 2:15).

The truly spiritual man is so far above the wisest sages of this world, yea, so far above the mass of Christians with whom he comes in contact with, that he can understand them, but they can never quite understand him.3 It is a sad fact, however, that in the Church today, as in that of Paul's day, there are so few, comparatively, who are truly spiritual and truly qualified to judge. Referring to the senseless and shameful contentions among the Corinthian believers, Paul wrote:

"I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?" (I Cor. 6:5).

Here he reprimands them because there is not one man among them who is spiritual enough to reprove the wrong and defend the right.

Indeed, Paul himself, an eminently spiritual man of God, once found it necessary to rebuke Peter publicly, even though Peter had been used of God to bring thousands to Messiah's feet before Paul had even been converted. Read the passage carefully:

"But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.

"For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles; but when they were come he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the Circumcision.

"And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him, insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation [hypocrisy].

"But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou being a Jew, livest after the manner of the Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?" (Gal. 2:11-14).

Surely this must have been embarrassing to Peter, but who can deny that Paul was right in thus dealing with this crisis, stepping in immediately to rebuke Peter's hypocrisy in going back on the great truths which God had revealed to him with regard to the oneness of Jewish and Gentile believers in Christ. Paul's action was not only right; it was necessary lest Peter "build again" the wall of separation between Jewish and Gentile believers which he himself had helped to "destroy" (Ver. 18 cf. Acts 15:9-11).

While Paul, in I Corinthians, deals with judging in the context of spirituality, he is not the first in Scripture to declare that God's people should, when truly qualified, judge others. When Christ Himself was judged by His antagonists, He said:

"Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment" (John 7:24).

Surely our Lord indicated by these words that His hearers should judge—fairly and rightly, though "hypocrites" (as in Matt. 7:1-5 above) should take care not to judge at all.

In I Corinthians 6:2,3, the Apostle declares that believers will one day "judge the world" and will even "judge angels," basing upon this fact his exhortation that they should be able to judge in matters pertaining to this life (Ver. 3) and reproving them for their inability "to judge the smallest matters" (Ver. 2). And in Verse 5, as we have seen, he speaks to their shame that there is not even one among them who is spiritual enough, and therefore respected enough, to judge between his brethren.

Thus God calls upon His people, not merely to judge others, but to be such as are qualified, morally and spiritually, to judge in matters concerning truth and error or right conduct and wrong.

Thus he instructs Timothy and Titus, both truly spiritual men of God, to act in situations in which it is necessary to judge. To Timothy he writes:

"Them that sin4 rebuke before all, that others also may fear" (I Tim. 5:20).

And again:

"...reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine" (II Tim. 4:2).

Likewise, to Titus he writes:

"For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I have appointed thee" (Titus 1:5).

"For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision;

"Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake" (Vers. 10,11).

Not just anyone would be qualified, spiritually and morally, to judge the recalcitrant believers to whom Timothy and Titus ministered, but these two men of God were thus qualified and the Apostle instructed them to do so firmly.

This brings us to a most important consideration appertaining to us all.

JUDGING OURSELVES

In Paul's well-known passage on the Lord's Supper, he warns against partaking of this sacred memorial in an unworthy manner (I Cor. 11:27), as some of the Corinthians were indeed doing. "Let a man examine himself," he says, "and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup" (Ver. 28).

Indeed, it was because they had been so irresponsible in this matter that it had become necessary for God to discipline them. Many among them were "weak and sickly," and some had even been taken away in death (Ver. 30). This would not have been necessary, the Apostle declares, if they had judged themselves (Vers. 31,32), each one carefully examining himself in the presence of the Lord so that he might be in the proper spiritual condition to celebrate the death of Christ for sin. Concluding his remarks about living so that they could partake of this remembrance in a worthy and sincere manner, he says:

"For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

"But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world" (I Cor. 11:31,32).

Whatever one's dispensational views of the celebration of the Lord's death at "the Lord's table," all of us should surely take the Apostle's exhortation here to heart. If we would judge ourselves God would not have to discipline us for our irresponsibility and we would be in a better position to serve Him as those who are truly spiritual.

This writer is keenly aware that the mere fact that a man judges others does not of itself indicate that he is truly spiritual. Indeed, one who judges himself and is truly spiritual will not be quick to judge others. Yet, should it not be our desire to be truly spiritual so that we might correctly "judge all things" (I Cor. 2:15) and, thus judging, "stand" for what is Scriptural and right and "withstand" what is unscriptural and wrong, even when, in so doing, it is necessary to withstand those who teach or practice what is unscriptural and wrong?

Away, then, with the use of such passages as II Timothy 2:24 and Matthew 7:1 merely as excuses for irresponsibility and for the criticism of those who seek to stand true to God and His Word. Let us rather consider prayerfully all that God says about judging, that we might truly please and honor Him.

Endnotes

1. i.e., the one who feels he may eat all things.

2. i.e., the one who feels he should not eat all things.

3. The writer's book, True Spirituality, deals at length with this subject.

4. The present active participle, i.e., those who persist in sin.

Dear Father of Heavenly lights,

Let the shadow talkers learn to embrace substance.

In Jesus Name,

Amen.

Therefore let no one pass judgement on you in questions of food or drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are only a shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. [Col. 2:16-17]

COLOSSIANS 2: Handwriting of ordinances

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Colo 2:8 (KJV) Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Messiah.

This is what the remaining section of Colossians chapter 2 is all about. This theme remains constant throughout but men have tried to change it to Yahweh's commandments rather than the commandments and traditions of men.

9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of our Mighty One (Godhead) bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

So we need none other doctrines because we are complete in Yahushua who is the head of all. We are complete in Him. We don't need anything that men might invent.

11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Messiah

In Yahushua, we are circumcised in the heart by His blood covering our sins thereby separating us from our sins.

12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of Yahweh, who hath raised him from the dead.

We buried the old man and we are now a new creation so we shouldn't be going back to any old traditions and philosophies

13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his tree (cross);

When we are forgiven of our sins, those old traditions, doctrines and ordinances of men which are AGAINST us are taken out of the way. They have no power over us any longer if we are in Yahushua. Do these ordinances have power over men who are without Yahushua? Yes they do! They enslave men to sin!

Roma 6:16 (NKJV) Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin [leading] to death, or of obedience [leading] to righteousness? 17 But Yahweh be thanked that [though] you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

Colo 1:13 (NKJV) He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed [us] into the kingdom of the Son of His love,

Therefore, the power that these ordinances had over us was nailed to the tree along with our sins for when we are forgiven for our sins, we are also set free from their hold on us. Anyone who has repented and accepted Yahushua after a lifetime of sin can attest to this fact!!
But now the question is asked: "What ordinances of men?" Paul will expand on this in verses 18 and 21 but for now lets go to the next verse..

15 [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

He overcame and disarmed the spirits of darkness, the evil angels. He triumphed over Satan and all his powers. He Put them to an open shame by triumphing over them in his resurrection and ascension. Now if verse 14 was speaking of Yahweh's commandments then why in the next verse is it talking about disarming Satan? Yahweh is the author of the true commandments. Satan is the author of the Pagan commandments that Paul is speaking of here.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Messiah

Notice that these things ARE a shadow of things to come. Not WERE a shadow but ARE a shadow. We will be keeping these things in Yahweh's kingdom. (See Zech. 14, Isa 66) In this scripture, the words in parentheses are added by the translator. This is because the translator did not understand or had a biased opinion about what the greek text meant. Here is how this should read:

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath
17 which are a shadow of things to come; but the body of Messiah

Of all the modern translations, only a few such as the King James Version translate the word "Body" in verse 17 correctly. The NIV totally butchers this verse.

The word "body" in verse 17 does mean "body". It is Strong's #4983. Look it up and see for yourself.

In the KJV, this Greek word is translated:

"body" 144 times
"bodily" 1 time in 2cor. 10:10
"slave" one time in Rev. 18:3.
In fact, this same Greek word is translated "body" only two verses later! Now, keeping that in mind this verse should read :
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, drink, etc (which are a shadow of things to come) BUT THE BODY OF MESSIAH!

In other words, we should let only the body of the Messiah judge us! Can we as brethren in Messiah judge each other? Certainly!

1Cor 5:11 (NKJV) But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner--not even to eat with such a person. 12 For what [have] I [to] [do] with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside Yahweh judges. Therefore "put away from yourselves the evil person."

Does a man not pass a judgment on his brother when he sees his brother in sin? Of course! But when this is the case, we must restore this man in gentleness:
Gala 6:1 (NKJV) Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who [are] spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

Jame 5:19 (NKJV) Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins

Don't let these pagans judge us in these things. This indicates that the Gentiles in Colosse were keeping Yahweh's commandments as they should. Please consult any greek new testament to verify that what I am saying is true! "Body of Messiah"

18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body <#4983>by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of Yahweh.

Verse 18 is a mirror of verse 8. This scripture further proves that Paul is not talking about taking away Yahweh's commandments in verse 16 but rather the commandments of men such as worshipping of angels...and here we are talking about the BODY of Messiah again! This is consistent with what we talked about above in verse 17 and why it should be translated "body". A variation of this word ("soma") is "somatikos" (which is Strong's #4985). This word is also translated "bodily" in verse 9 above. Therefore, verses 18 and 19 are a mirror of verses 8 and 9 above. This shows us that the context of what Paul was saying in verse 8 and 9 has not changed. Therefore, these verses are good summary: Stand fast in Yahweh's commandments and shun the commandments and doctrines of men.

20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Messiah from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances--

Remember back in verse 14 when we asked, "What ordinances of men?" These are among the ordinances that were blotted out:

21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?

Again, these are the ordinances of men that were blotted out. Taken out of the way. They are all commandments and doctrines of men. Not Yahweh's commandments. To further prove this point, let us look at the Greek words that are translated "ordinances"

In verse 14 the Greek word that is translated "ordinances" is the Greek word "Dogma" which means "ordinances"

In verse 21 the Greek word that is translated "be subject to ordinances" is "Dogmatizo" which means "be subject to ordinances".

The root word (Dogma, Ordinance) remains constant. The only difference is in the phrase.

23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
3:1 If ye then be risen with Messiah, seek those things which are above, where Messiah sitteth on the right hand of Yahweh.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Messiah in Yahweh.

So in conclusion, Paul is saying that we should beware lest any man spoil us through these commandments, philosophies and doctrines of men. For Yahushua took them out of the way and nailed them to the tree thereby forgiving us for accepting them. Because of this we should let no man judge us for keeping Yahweh's commandments unless they are a part of the body of the Messiah. Therefore we should hold fast to the Head of that body, namely Yahushua from whom we are nourished and do not subject ourselves to pagan ordinances. For even though these have an appearance of wisdom, they are of no value. So we should set our minds on things above, not on the things of the world.

This might help you with your shadow prob Brother Bill

How about one of your own wildb:

A Sermon
(No. 95)
Delivered on Sabbath Morning, August 10, 1856, by the
REV. C. H. Spurgeon
At New Park Street Chapel, Southwark.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"This shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year."—Leviticus 16:34.
he Jews had many striking ceremonies which marvellously set forth the death of Jesus Christ as the great expiation of our guilt and the salvation of our souls. One of the chief of these was the day of atonement, which I believe was pre-eminently intended to typify that great day of vengeance of our God, which was also the great day of acceptance of our souls, when Jesus Christ "died, the just for the unjust, to bring us to God." That day of atonement happened only once a year, to teach us that only once should Jesus Christ die; and that though he would come a second time, yet it would be without a sin offering unto salvation. The lambs were perpetually slaughtered; morning and evening they offered sacrifice to God, to remind the people that they always needed a sacrifice; but the day of atonement being the type of the one great propitiation, it was but once a year that the high priest entered within the vail with blood as the atonement for the sins of the people. And this was on a certain set and appointed time; it was not left to the choice of Moses, or to the convenience of Aaron, or to any other circumstance which might affect the date; it was appointed to be on a peculiar set day, as you find at the 29th verse: "In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month;" and at no other time was the day of atonement to be, to show us that God's great day of atonement was appointed and predestinated by himself. Christ's expiation occurred but once, and then not by any chance; God had settled it from before the foundation of the world; and at that hour when God had predestinated, on that very day that God had decreed that Christ should die, was he led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers he was dumb. It was but once a year, because the sacrifice should be once; it was at an appointed time in the year, because in the fulness of time Jesus Christ should come into the world to die for us.
Now, I shall invite your attention to the ceremonies of this solemn day, taking the different parts in detail. First, we shall consider the person who made the atonement; secondly, the sacrifice whereby the atonement was typically made; thirdly, the effects of the atonement; and fourthly, our behaviour on the recollection of the atonement, as well set forth by the conduct prescribed to the Israelites on that day.
I. First, THE PERSON WHO WAS TO MAKE THE ATONEMENT. And at the outset, we remark that Aaron, the high priest, did it. "Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place; with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering." Inferior priests slaughtered lambs; other priests at other times did almost all the work of the sanctuary; but on this day nothing was done by any one, as a part of the business of the great day of atonement, except by the high priest. Old rabbinical traditions tell us that everything on that day was done by him, even the lighting of the candles, and the fires, and the incense, and all the offices that were required, and that, for a fortnight beforehand, he was obliged to go into the tabernacle to slaughter the bullocks and assist in the work of the priests and Levites, that he might be prepared to do the work which was unusual to him. All the labour was left to him. So, beloved, Jesus Christ, the High Priest, and he only, works the atonement. There are other priests, for "he hath made us priests and kings unto God." Every Christian is a priest to offer sacrifice of prayer and praise unto God, but none save the High Priest must offer atonement; he, and he alone, must go within the vail; he must slaughter the goat and sprinkle the blood; for though thanksgiving is shared in by all Christ's elect body, atonement remains alone to him, the High Priest.
Then it is interesting to notice, that the high priest on this day was a humbled priest. You read in the 4th verse, "He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments." On other days he wore what the people were accustomed to call the golden garments; he had the mitre with a plate of pure gold around his brow, tied with brilliant blue; the splendid breastplate, studded with gems, adorned with pure gold and set with precious stones; the glorious ephod, the tinkling bells, and all the other ornaments, wherewith he came before the people as the accepted high priest. But on this day he had none of them. The golden mitre was laid aside, the embroidered vest was put away, the breastplate was taken off, and he came out simply with the holy linen coat, the linen breeches, the linen mitre, and girded with a linen girdle. On that day he humbled himself just as the people humbled themselves. Now, that is a notable circumstance. You will see sundry other passages in the references which will bear this out, that the priest's dress on this day was different. As Mayer tells us, he wore garments, and glorious ones, on other days, but on this day he wore four humble ones. Jesus Christ, then, when he made atonement, was a humbled priest. He did not make atonement arrayed in all the glories of his ancient throne in heaven. Upon his brow there was no diadem, save the crown of thorns; around him was cast no purple robe, save that which he wore for a time in mockery; on his head was no sceptre, save the reed which they thrust in cruel contempt upon him; he had no sandals of pure gold, neither was he dressed as king; he had none of those splendours about him which should make him mighty and distinguished among men; he came out in his simple body, ay, in his naked body, for they stripped off even the common robe from him, and made him hang before God's sun and God's universe, naked, to his shame, and to the disgrace of those who chose to do so cruel and dastardly a deed. Oh! my soul, adore thy Jesus, who when he made atonement, humbled himself and wrapped around him a garb of thine inferior clay. Oh! angels, ye can understand what were the glories that he laid aside. Oh! thrones, and principalities, and powers, ye can tell what was the diadem with which he dispensed, and what, the robes he laid aside to wrap himself in earthly garbs. But, men, ye can scarce tell how glorious is your High Priest now, and ye can scarce tell how glorious he was before. But oh! adore him, for on that day it was the simple clean linen of his own body, of his own humanity, in which he made atonement for your sins.
In the next place, the high priest who offered the atonement must be a spotless high priest; and because there were none such to be found, Aaron being a sinner himself as well as the people, you will remark that Aaron had to sanctify himself and make atonement for his own sin before he could go in to make an atonement for the sins of the people. In the 3rd verse you read, "Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering." These were for himself. In the 6th verse it is said, "And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house." Yea, more, before he went within the vail with the blood of the goat which was the atonement for the people, he had to go within the vail to make atonement there for himself. In the 11th, 12th, and 13th verses, it is said, "And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself. And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the Lord, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail. And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not." "And he shall take of the blood of the bullock (that is, the bullock that he killed for himself), and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times." This was before he killed the goat, for it says, "Then shall he kill the goat." Before he took the blood which was a type of Christ within the vail, he took the blood (which was a type of Christ in another sense), wherewith he purified himself. Aaron must not go within the vail until by the bullock his sins had been typically expiated, nor even then without the burning smoking incense before his face, lest God should look on him, and he should die, being an impure mortal. Moreover, the Jews tell us that Aaron had to wash himself, I think, five times in the day; and it is said in this chapter that he had to wash himself many times. We read in the 4th verse, "These are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on." And at the 24th verse, "He shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place, and put on his garments." So you see it was strictly provided for that Aaron on that day should be a spotless priest. He could not be so as to nature, but, ceremonially, care was taken that he should be clean. He was washed over and over again in the sacred bath. And besides that, there was the blood of the bullock and the smoke of the incense, that he might be acceptable before God. Ah! beloved, and we have a spotless High Priest; we have one who needed no washing, for he had no filth to wash away; we have one who needed no atonement for himself, for he, for ever, might have sat down at the right hand of God, and ne'er have come on earth at all. He was pure and spotless; he needed no incense to wave before the mercy seat to hide the angry face of justice; he needed nothing to hide and shelter him; he was all pure and clean. Oh! bow down and adore him, for if he had not been a holy High Priest, he could never have taken thy sins upon himself, and never have made intercession for thee. Oh! reverence him, that, spotless as he was, he should come into this world and say, "For this cause I sanctify myself, that they also may be sanctified through the truth." Adore and love him, the spotless High Priest, who, on the day of atonement took away thy guilt.
Again, the atonement was made by a solitary high priest—alone and unassisted. You read in the 17th verse, "And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel." No other man was to be present, so that the people might be quite certain that everything was done by the high priest alone. It is remarkable, as Matthew Henry observes, that no disciple died with Christ. When he was put to death, his disciples forsook him and fled; they crucified none of his followers with him, lest any should suppose that the disciple shared the honor of atonement. Thieves were crucified with him because none would suspect that they could assist him; but if a disciple had died, it might have been imagined that he had shared the atonement. God kept that holy circle of Calvary select to Christ, and none of his disciples must go to die there with him. O glorious High Priest, thou hast done it all alone. O, glorious antitype of Aaron, no son of thine stood with thee; no Eliezer, no Phineas, burned incense; there was no priest, no Levite save himself. "I have trodden the wine-press alone, and of the people there was none with me." Then give all the glory unto his holy name, for alone and unassisted he made atonement for your guilt. The bath of his blood is your only washing; the stream of water from his side is your perfect purification. None but Jesus, none but Jesus, has wrought out the work of our salvation.
Again, it was a laborious high priest who did the work on that day. It is astonishing how, after comparative rest, he should be so accustomed to his work as to be able to perform all that he had to do on that day. I have endeavoured to count up how many creatures he had to kill, and I find that there were fifteen beasts which he slaughtered at different times, besides the other offices, which were all left to him. In the first place, there were the two lambs, one offered in the morning, and the other in the evening; they were never omitted, being a perpetual ordinance. On this day the high priest killed those two lambs. Further, if you will turn to Numbers xxix. 7-11, "And ye shall have on the tenth day of this seventh month an holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall not do any work therein: But ye shall offer a burnt unto the Lord for a sweet savour; one young bullock, one ram, and seven lambs of the first year; they shall be unto you without blemish: And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals to a bullock, and two tenth deals to one ram. A several tenth deal for one lamb, throughout the seven lambs: One kid of the goats for a sin offering: besides the sin offering of atonement, and the continual burnt offering, and the meat offering of it, and their drink offerings." Here, then, was one bullock, a ram, seven lambs, and a kid of the goats; making ten. The two lambs made twelve. And in the chapter we have been studying, it is said in the 3rd verse: "Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering;" which makes the number fourteen. Then, after that, we find there were two goats, but only one of them was killed, the other being allowed to go away. Thus, then, there were fifteen beasts to be slaughtered, besides the burnt offerings of thanksgiving which were offered by way of showing that the people now desired to dedicate themselves to the Lord from gratitude, that the atonement of sin offering had been accepted. He who was ordained priest in Jeshurun, for that day, toiled like a common Levite, worked as laboriously as priest could do, and far more so than on any ordinary day. Just so with our Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, what a labour the atonement was to him! It was a work that all the hands of the universe could not have accomplished; yet he completed it alone. It was a work more laborious than the treading of the wine-press, and his frame, unless sustained by the divinity within, could scarce have borne such stupendous labour. There was the bloody sweat in Gethsemane; there was the watching all night, just as the high priest did for fear that uncleanness might touch him; there was the hooting and the scorn which he suffered every day before—something like the continual offering of the Lamb; then there came the shame, the spitting, the cruel flagellations in Pilate's hall; then there was the via dolorosa through Jerusalem's sad streets; then came the hanging on the cross, with the weight of his people's sins on his shoulders. Ay, it was a Divine labour that our great High Priest did on that day—a labour mightier than the making of the world: it was the new making of a world, the taking of its sins upon his Almighty shoulders and casting them into the depths of the sea. The atonement was made by a toilsome laborious High Priest, who worked, indeed, that day; and Jesus, thought he had toiled before, yet never worked as he did on that wondrous day of atonement.
II. Thus have I led you to consider the person who made the atonement: let us now consider for a moment or two THE MEANS WHEREBY THIS ATONEMENT WAS MADE. You read at the 5th verse, "And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering." And at the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th verses, "And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat. And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord's lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering. But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the Lord, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness." The first goat I considered to be the great type of Jesus Christ the atonement: such I do not consider the scapegoat to be. The first is a type of the means whereby the atonement was made, and we shall keep to that first.
Notice that this goat, of course, answered all the pre-requisites of every other thing that was sacrificed; it must be a perfect, unblemished goat of the first year. Even so was our Lord a perfect man, in the prime and vigour of his manhood. And further, this goat was an eminent type of Christ from the fact that it was taken of the congregation of the children of Israel, as we are told at the 5th verse. The public treasury furnished the goat. So, beloved, Jesus Christ was, first of all, purchased by the public treasury of the Jewish people before he died. Thirty pieces of silver they had valued him at, a goodly price; and as they had been accustomed to bring the goat, so they brought him to be offered: not, indeed, with the intention that he should be their sacrifice, but unwittingly they fulfilled this when they brought him to Pilate, and cried, "Crucify him, crucify him!" Oh, beloved! Indeed, Jesus Christ came out from the midst of the people, and the people brought him. Strange that it should be so! "He came unto his own, and his own received him not;" his own led him forth to slaughter; his own dragged him before the mercy seat.
Note, again, that though this goat, like the scapegoat, was brought by the people, God's decision was in it still. Mark, it is said, "Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats: one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat." I conceive this mention of lots is to teach that although the Jews brought Jesus Christ of their own will to die, yet, Christ had been appointed to die; and even the very man who sold him was appointed to it—so saith the Scripture. Christ's death was fore-ordained, and there was not only man's hand in it, but God's. "The lot is cast into the lap, but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord." So it is true that man put Christ to death, but it was of the Lord's disposal that Jesus Christ was slaughtered, "the just for the unjust, to bring us to God."
Next, behold the goat that destiny has marked out to make the atonement. Come and see it die. The priest stabs it. Mark it in its agonies; behold it struggling for a moment; observe the blood as it gushes forth. Christians, ye have here your Saviour. See his Father's vengeful sword sheathed in his heart; behold his death agonies; see the clammy sweat upon his brow; mark his tongue cleaving to the roof of his mouth; hear his sighs and groans upon the cross; hark to his shriek, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani," and you have more now to think of than you could have if you only stood to see the death of a goat for your atonement. Mark the blood as from his wounded hands it flows, and from his feet it finds a channel to the earth; from his open side in one great river see it gush. As the blood of the goat made the atonement typically, so, Christian, thy Saviour dying for thee, made the great atonement for thy sins, and thou mayest go free.
But mark, this goat's blood was not only shed for many for the remission of sins as a type of Christ, but that blood was taken within the vail, and there it was sprinkled. So with Jesus's blood, "Sprinkled now with blood the throne." The blood of other beasts (save only of the bullock) was offered before the Lord, and was not brought into the most holy place; but this goat's blood was sprinkled on the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat, to make an atonement. So, O child of God, thy Saviour's blood has made atonement within the vail; he has taken it there himself; his own merits and his own agonies are now within the vail of glory, sprinkled now before the throne. O glorious sacrifice, as well as High Priest, we would adore thee, for by thy one offering hot hast made atonement for ever, even as this one slaughtered goat made atonement once in a year for the sins of all the people.
III. We now come to the EFFECTS.
One of the first effects of the death of this goat was sanctification of the holy things which had been made unholy. You read at the end of the 15th verse, "He shall sprinkle it upon the mercy seat: and he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness." The holy place was made unholy by the people. Where God dwelt should be holy, but where man comes there must be some degree of unholiness. This blood of the goat made the unholy place holy. It was a sweet reflection to me as I came here this morning. I thought, "I am going to the house of God, and that house is a holy place;" but when I thought how many sinners had trodden its floors, how many unholy ones had joined in its songs, I thought, "Ah! it has been made defiled; but oh! there is no fear, for the blood of Jesus has made it holy again." "Ah!" I thought, "there is our poor prayer that we shall offer: it is a holy prayer, for God the Holy Spirit dictates it, but then it is an unholy prayer, for we have uttered it, and that which cometh out of unholy lips like ours, must be tainted." "But ah!" I thought again, "it is a prayer that has been sprinkled with blood, and therefore it must be a holy prayer." And as I looked on all the harps of this sanctuary, typical of your praises, and on all the censers of this tabernacle, typical of your prayers, I thought within myself, "There is blood on them all; our holy service this day has been sprinkled with the blood of the great Jesus, and as such it will be accepted through him." Oh! beloved, it is not sweet to reflect that our holy things are now really holy; that through sin is mixed with them all, and we think them defiled, yet they are not, for the blood has washed out every stain; and the service this day is as holy in God's sight as the service of the cherubim, and is acceptable as the psalms of the glorified; we have washed our worship in the blood of the Lamb, and it is accepted through him.
But observe, the second great fact was that their sins were taken away. This was set forth by the scapegoat. You read at the 20th, "And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat: And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness: And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited, and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness." When that was done, you see, the great and wonderful atonement was finished, and the effects of it were set forth to the people. Now, I do not know how many opinions there are about this scapegoat. One of the most strange opinions to me is that which is held by a very large portion of learned men, and I see it is put in the margin of my Bible. Many learned men thing that this word scapegoat, Azazel, was the name of the devil who was worshipped by the heathen in the form of a goat; and they tell us that the first goat was offered to God as an atonement for sin, and the other went away to be tormented by the devil, and was called Azazel, just as Jesus was tormented by Satan in the wilderness. To this opinion, it is enough to object that it is difficult to conceive when the other goat was offered to God, this should be sent among demons. Indeed, the opinion is too gross for belief. It needs only to be mentioned to be refuted. Now the first goat is the Lord Jesus Christ making atonement by his death for the sins of the people; the second is sent away into the wilderness, and nothing is heard of it any more for ever; and here a difficulty suggests itself—"Did Jesus Christ go where he was never heard of any more for ever?" That is what we have not to consider al all. The first goat was a type of the atonement; the second is the type of the effect of the atonement. The second goat went away, after the first was slaughtered, carrying the sins of the people on its head, and so it sets froth, as a scapegoat, how our sins are carried away into the depth of the wilderness. There was this year exhibited in the Art Union a fine picture of the scapegoat dying in the wilderness: it was represented with a burning sky above it, its feet sticking in the mire, surrounded by hundreds of skeletons, and there dying a doleful and miserable death. Now, that was just a piece of gratuitous nonsense, for there is nothing the Scripture that warrants it in the least degree. The rabbis tell us that this goat was taken by a man into the wilderness and here tumbled down a high rock to die; but, as an excellent commentator says, if the man did push it down the rock he more than God ever told him to do. God told him to take a goat and let it go: as to what became of it neither you nor I know anything; that is purposely left. Our Lord Jesus Christ has taken away our sins upon his head, just as the scapegoat, and he is gone from us—that is all: the goat was not a type in its dying, or in regard to its subsequent fate. God has only told us that it should be taken by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness. The most correct account seems to be that of one Rabbi Jarchi, who says that they generally took the goat twelve miles out of Jerusalem, and at each mile there was a booth provided where the man who took it might refresh himself till he came to the tenth mile, when there was no more rest for him till he had seen the goat go. When he had come to the last mile he stood and looked at the goat till it was gone, and he could see it no more. Then the people's sins were all gone too. Now, what a fine type that is if you do not enquire any further! But if you will get meddling where God intended you to be in ignorance, you will get nothing by it. This scapegoat was not designed to show us the victim or the sacrifice, but simply what became of the sins. The sins of the people are confessed upon that head; the goat is going; the people lose sight of it; a fit man goes with it; the sins are going from them, and now the man has arrived at his destination; the man sees the goat in the distance skipping here and there overt the mountains, glad of its liberty; it is not quite gone; a little farther, and now it is lost to sight. The man returns, and says he can no longer see it; then the people clap their hands, for their sins are all gone too. Oh! soul; canst thou see thy sins all gone? We may have to take a long journey, and carry our sins with us; but oh! how we watch and watch till they are utterly cast into the depths of the wilderness of forgetfulness, where they shall never be found any more against us for ever. But mark, this goat did not sacrificially make the atonement; it was a type of the sins going away, and so it was a type of the atonement; for you know, since our sins are thereby lost, it is the fruit of the atonement; but the sacrifice is the means of making it. So we have this great and glorious thought before us, that by the death of Christ there was full, free, perfect remission for all those whose sins are laid upon his head. For I would have you notice that on this day all sins were laid on the scapegoat's head—sins of presumption, sins of ignorance, sins of uncleanness, sins little and sins great, sins few and sins many, sins against the law, sins against morality, sins against ceremonies, sins of all kinds were taken away on that great day of atonement. Sinner, oh, that thou hadst a share in my Master's atonement! Oh! that thou couldst see him slaughtered on the cross! Then mightest thou see him go away leading captivity captive, and taking thy sins where they might ne'er be found.
I have now an interesting fact to tell you, and I am sure you will think it worth mentioning. Turn to Leviticus xxv. 9, and you will read: "Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubilee to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall yet make the trumpet sound throughout all your land." So that one of the effects of the atonement was set forth to us in the fact that when the year of jubilee came, it was not on the first day of the year that it was proclaimed, but "on the tenth day of the seventh month." Ay, methinks, that was the best part of it. The scapegoat is gone, and the sins are gone, and no sooner are they gone than the silver trumpet sounds,

"The year of jubilee is to come,
Return, ye ransomed sinners, home."

On that day sinners go free; on that day our poor mortgaged lands are liberated, and our poor estates which have been forfeited by our spiritual bankruptcy are all returned to us. So when Jesus dies, slaves win their liberty, and lost ones receive spiritual life again; when he dies, heaven, the long lost inheritance is ours. Blessed day! Atonement and jubilee ought to go together. Have you ever had a jubilee, my friends, in your hearts? If you have not, I can tell you it is because you have not had a day of atonement.
One more thought concerning the effects of this great day of atonement, and you will observe that it runs throughout the whole of the chapter—entrance within the vail. Only on one day in the year might the high priest enter within the vail, and then it must be for the great purposes of the atonement. Now, beloved, the atonement is finished, and you may enter within the vail: "Having boldness, therefore, to enter into the holiest, let us come with boldness into the throne of the heavenly grace." The vail of the temple is rent by the atonement of Christ, and access to the throne is now ours. O child of God, I know not of any privilege which thou hast, save fellowship with Christ, which is more valuable than access to the throne. Access to the mercy seat is one of the greatest blessings mortals can enjoy. Precious throne of grace! I never should have had any right to come there if it had not been for the day of atonement; I never should have been able to come there if the throne had not been sprinkled with the blood.
IV. Now we come to notice, in the fourth place, what is our PROPER BEHAVIOUR WHEN WE CONSIDER THE DAY OF ATONEMENT. You read at the 29th verse, "And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls." That is one thing that we ought to do when we remember the atonement. Sure, sinner, there is nothing that move thee to repentance like the thought of that great sacrifice of Christ which is necessary to wash away thy guilt. "Law and terrors do but harden." but methinks, the thought that Jesus died is enough to make us melt. It is well, when we hear the name of Calvary, always to shed a tear, for there is nothing that ought to make a sinner weep like the mention of the death of Jesus. On that day "ye shall afflict your souls." And even you, ye Christians, when ye think that your Saviour died, should afflict your souls: ye should say,

"Alas! and did my Saviour bleed?
And did my Sov'reign die?
Would he devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I?"

Drops of grief ought to flow, ay, streams of undissembled sympathy with him; to show our grief for what we did to pierce the Saviour. "Afflict your souls," O ye children of Israel, for the day of atonement is come. Weep o'er your Jesus; weep for him that died; weep for him who was murdered by your sins, and "afflict your souls."
Then, better still, we are to "do not work at all," as ye find the same verse, 29th. When we consider the atonement, we should rest, and "do no work at all." Rest from your works as God did from his on the great Sabbath of the world; rest from your own righteousness; rest from your toilsome duties: rest in him. "We that believe do enter into rest." As soon as thou seest the atonement finished, say, "it is done, it is done? Now will I serve my God with zeal, but now I will no longer seek to save myself, it is done, it is done for aye."
Then there was another thing which always happened. When the priest had made the atonement, it was usual for him, after he had washed himself, to come out again in his glorious garments. When the people saw him they attended him to his house with joy, and they offered burnt offerings of praise on that day: he being thankful that his life was spared, (having been allowed to go into the holy place and to come out of it) and they being thankful that the atonement was accepted; both of them offering burnt offerings as a type that they desired now to be "a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God." Beloved, let us go into our houses with joy; let us go into our gates with praise. The atonement is finished; the High Priest is gone within the vail; salvation is now complete. He has laid aside the linen garments, and he stands before you with his breastplate, and his mitre, and his embroidered vest, in all his glory. Hear how he rejoices over us, for he hath redeemed his people, and ransomed them out of the hands of his enemies. Come, let us go home with the High Priest; let us clap our hands with joy, for he liveth, he liveth; the atonement is accepted, and we are accepted too; the scapegoat is gone, our sins are gone with it. Let us then go to our houses with thankfulness, and let us come up to his gates with praise, for he hath loved his people, he hath blessed his children, and given unto us a day of atonement, and a day of acceptance, and a year of jubilee. Praise ye the Lord? Praise ye the Lord!

The shadow talkers will figure it out.

Without the Light there is no shadow.

Luke, Chapter 11, 033: No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

Hum what a concept. Unless these men were good at making shadow puppets on the wall....

I must admit a good shadow puppet show would distract me for awhile from noticing the light.

Later, when they got older, the crib was not needed.

At no time did I scoff at the crib or accuse the crib as being useless and worthless. Indeed, the fact that my daughters are alive and well today proves that the crib functioned as it should have functioned. In that way the function of the crib has been FULFILLED.

Now, my daughters sleep in beds. The crib is no longer needed. The form of it has not changed but it no longer functions in their lives at it used to. A new way has come (the bed) and the old way is not needed (the crib).

Inwardly, I say "God, thank you for the crib. It worked like it should work and my daughters are grown, now." Yet, outwardly, there is no use for the crib as far as my daughters are concerned.

How silly it would be of me to have both a bed and a crib in their rooms! The intention of the crib has been fulfilled; now their beds are where they sleep.

I do not, simultaneously endorse the crib and the bed. Once, I endorsed the crib. Then, when the bed came, I endorsed the bed. Indeed, in that example, the crib was but a shadow of what the bed truly was.

God is the same way: He does not simultaneously support the "shadow of the reality" and "the reality". When the reality appears the shadow is no longer supported by God.

If the night cleaners in the temple (I'm being cheeky) accidentally backed into the Holy of Holies when they were buffing the floors BEFORE Jesus died on the cross they would have died instantly.

Now, what would happen to them if they backed into the Holy of Holies AFTER Jesus died on the cross? You may want to answer "nothing". You would be partially correct. Indeed, God would not strike them dead but the temple priests, in order to preserve their traditions and provision, would be inclined to hunt the men down and kill them.

Indeed, this is the curse of the modern day Judaizers. They tell us, "You are fools before God if you do not follow the law and the traditions of the 'Jewish Jesus'." Death is already on their lips for "..whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire." and "I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off!"

And the scriptures say "But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now."

and

"Cast out the bondwoman (the covenant from Mount Sinai) and her son (slaves under the law), for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman."

I am under a law but it is not the law from Sinai. I am under the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus with the promise of being a son of God. This is the covenant that existed 430 years before the law (Galatians 3:17) and was consummated between God and God (Hebrew 6:13 and Genesis 22:16) from the foundation of world (1Peter 1:20 and Revelation 13:8).

Aaron

Well said.

NOW! Faith is the SUBSTANCE of things hoped for whose evidence is not seen.

Shadows are seen because of the light.

Therefore let no one pass judgement on you in questions of food or drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are only a shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. [Col. 2:16-17]

10th day of the 7th Month 5846 After the Creation of Adam
The first year of the third Sabbatical cycle in the 119th Jubilee cycle
September 20, 2010

Shalom Family

Today is the Day of Atonement. I am about to go and give my teaching for this day to our small group. But I am reading the many things people are saying about this day. I am also reading about those who have no group to go to and no teachers to stretch their tents with. So if you will, I offer what I am going to present this day for your edification.

As Normal I am loaded for grizzly. I most likely will not be able to teach all of this today. So I normally adlib and jump around in my notes as I speak. These notes are in rough form and I was not going to send this out. But some are asking so here it is.
Below is one of the notes I read in a discussion about this day. My two links are below.

May your fast be beneficial and May your name be found in the book of life.

It is true that the word translated as afflict can also mean "humbled" and does not mean "fast". But what does the bible say is the way you "humble" your soul?

I humbled my soul with fasting; - Psalm 35:13

Also,

Acts 27:9
Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past,

Strong's definition for the word translated as "fast":
1) a fasting, fast

a) a voluntary, as a religious exercise

1) of private fasting

2) the public fast as prescribed by the Mosaic Law and kept yearly on the great day of atonement, the tenth of the month of Tisri (the month Tisri comprises a part of our September and October); the fast accordingly, occurred in the autumn when navigation was usually dangerous on account of storms

b) a fasting caused by want or poverty

Question: Why was the sailing dangerous "because the fast was now already past"? I think the best explanation is the one that Strong's Concordance gave.

This is the link is to a short note I posted on face book http://www.sightedmoonnl.com/?page_id=681

This is the link to my teaching this day. http://www.sightedmoonnl.com/?page_id=682

Eduardo,

I agree with you that the festivals of the Old Testament were shadows of what was to become. The marriage between a man and a wife is a shadow of what is going to be the rapture. And yes they will again be important in the future. After the Church Age ends. The Jews will return to God and there will be a new Jewish Temple where sacrifices will be given to God. Knowing this, does not mean we as Christians should buy livestock and sacrifice to God. We are saved by grace. The Jews will worship with sacrifices until their eyes are open and they see that the anti-Christ is the devil and they will cry out to their Messiah- Jesus and then they will flee to Petra where God Himself will protect them until the Second Coming.

Respect the Festivals but do not depend on them to save you. We are saved by grace.

Yahwsay,
I listen to both preaching and teaching. We have been studying on Wednesday nights at Church with our Pastor about how some Christians were trying to force Christians to go back to the law for salvation. Do not assume because I do not agree with you that I do not take part in Bible study and preaching. You and Barry are like the Pharisees that Jesus dealt with that are adding to the yokes of the people. Go look in your closet and see if all your clothes are a 100 percent of one material. It is against Jewish laws to wear clothing with mixed materials.
You are not keeping the law and no one else can. That is why Jesus saved us by grace. Requiring people to keep the law is no different then the Christians of Paul's day that were requiring Christians to become Jews first then Christians and yes Paul would tell you that you should be accursed. Repent from your sin of adding works to the salvation plan of God that is salvation by grace and not works.

also, we were not delivered from the law as if the law of God was bad and He somehow made a mistake, God forbid. We have been delivered from Sin which leads to death.

We were delivered from the ordinances of the law, you know, stoning to death ect...and we now have a better way, a high priest Jesus who has shed His blood for us, no more needing the shed blood of bulls and goats which was only a temporary covering for SIN.

Barry, rarely do i find when trying to teach from the scriptures and history of that timeline do people want to study and go find out for themselves.

Its much easier to sit in a pew 1-2 days a week and hear preaching but not teaching.

Please be patient, for i was one of them years ago.

Stated by Betty Louise:

quote:
You are a modern day Judaizer.

The Judaizers were trying to get the gentiles to “live as Jews.

Paul would tell you that you are corrupting the Gospel and should be accursed. Stop trying to add to the Gospel and accept Jesus by faith and not by thinking obeying the law can save you.
betty

Is that what you truly think Paul would tell me?

anathema (Grk)

As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed

Im sorry Betty that you have ears and cannot hear, and have eyes, but you cannot see..

You cannot understand the scriptures in the flesh, for the Words of YHWH and HIS SON Yahushua are spiritually decearned.

Thats a serious claim Betty; dont hide under Pauls name, if that is what you believe say it yourself.

Your eyes and ears are dull of hearing and your eyes are blinded by the god of this world.

You do not, nor cannot take what you believe through the Word of YHWH and explain your cause, when you are losing your "pet" doctrines and traditions of men you get kinda vicious and mean.

i pray your eyes will be opened, i have no hard feelings against you, i dont think you would be "accursed" by Paul.

Prove your case with scripture; if one scripture does not line up with the other scriptures then your doctrine is faulted.

im still working on some things Brother Drew has shown me, that did not line up with other scriptures i have studied. It has shown more light on a particular subject. Im working on that and will either post other scriptures to shed light on what Brother Drew has shown me or post i ws wrong and stand corrected:

You have made three (3) posts in this thread and NOT ONE Scripture. No not one!

But you have hurled venom at any view opposing yours. Sister correct yourself, and accept the rebuke. Your opinion, as well as mine is just that an opinion!

Without scripture to back up how we see a doctrine or topic, is just that an OPINION and words that cause strife.
Study to show yourself approved, do not just accept what your preacher tells you or what your "church" believes....
Pray for a love of the truth, for without truth we have nothing!

Look at the scriptures no where am i saying that you are saved by the "works of the law",

Of course i know one is saved by Grace!

I showed in the first of this post where they celebrated the "Day Of Atonement" Before Yahushua came;

Then i was showing how Yahushua came and fullfilled the "Day Of Atonement" read below again:

quote:

Do you even read the things that are posted, or do you assume since i posted it it MUST BE WRONG?

Sister use righteous judgements. For your sake not mine, for your own heart, dont let bitterness spring up in your heart and be defiled. Pray and ask Father YHWH, what is the truth, and to show you in HIS word.

If we disagree, and you honestly think im in error, pray for me as a sister would, and i for you. but at least use scripture when your trying to correct someone, for if your going to help people you dont know and expose what im stating as error, your opinion will not mean anything to those who dont know you, only scripture can convince, for HIS word wont come back void.

What does Yom Kipur mean to a Jew who so happens to be Christain. Yom Kippur is more than a simple Jewish holiday, it is prophetic day as well. Yom Kippur is bible prophesy as well. I challenge any Christian prove to me that it does not involve prophecy in a future event that is yet to happen.

Can a Gentile be “free in Christ” and keep the Jewish laws concerning food, festivals, etc.? The answer in Galatians is a resounding no.

These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.

Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, . . . (Lev 23:4,27)

Notice, he did not say these were the feasts of the Jews or the feasts of the Christians, but the feasts of the Lord. They are to be celebrated in honor of our Lord!

Contrasted with the Feast of Passover that is associated with a sacrificed lamb for personal redemption, while the feast of Atonement (Yom Kippur) was associated with a sacrificed goat (Lev. 16:5-11) providing corporate cleansing for Israel. In other words, Passover teaches us about salvation and Atonement teaches us about sanctification, church maturity, and spiritual purity. Passover teaches us the absolution of unbelievers, while atonement celebrates the cleansing of soiled saints. The nature of Atonement is inherent in the word itself - at-one-ment - the process by which we come into harmony or oneness with the righteousness of God.

"And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement." (Rom 5:11)

Notice that the feast of Unleavened Bread celebrates purity of doctrine and Atonement celebrates the process by which the church reaches that perfection and maturity in doctrinal faith.

PERFECTING OF SAINTS

"And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." (John 17:19-21)

The apostle Paul brings affirmation to this process of corporate perfection through "word washing" in his letter to the Ephesus church;

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing but tat it should be holy and without blemish (Eph 5:25-27)

ANNUAL DAY OF FASTING

The day of Atonement is the corporate or national day of fasting. This is what is implied by the phrase "afflict your souls". This day should serve as an annual reminder to the body of Christ of the great value God places on the sacrament of fasting. It was also a tradition in Israel for white to be worn by the people to symbolize purity that He seeks.

Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. (Isa 1: 17-18)

TWO GOATS

One of the more significant ceremonies accompanying this festival, was two identical goats separated from the flock, one given the identity of an Atonement goat and the other the identity of a Scapegoat. It is from the second goat which was released into the wilderness with the sins of the people, that the common term "scapegoat" is derived. It describes an innocent person upon whom the blame is placed for the transgressions of another. That is exactly what Jesus the Messiah became for us. He takes upon himself our sins. Jesus became for us both an atonement and a substitute.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Cor 5:21-6:1)

This was the only festival where the High Priest could enter in through the veil and appear before God in the Holiest of Holies. It is considered the holiest day of the entire biblical year. It was at this time that God would speak audibly to the High Priest for atonement and instructions to the nation. This was a foreshadow of Christ our High Priest who entered in through the veil into the heavenly Holy of Holies for us all. By His blood our conscience is cleansed to serve the loving God. By this we are at-one-ment with God. through His matchless grace (He 9:24)

ISRAEL'S RENEWAL

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. (Zech 12:10)

The Day of Atonement is Israel's prophetic national day of salvation. The famous bone yard described in Ezekiel chapter thirty seven , outlines the progressive steps to this event. First the Jewish people are restored to their land and there they are spiritually awakened and resurrected. when they accept Yeshua (Jesus) as their messiah.

In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

This high profile, end time prophetic event, testifies to the faithfulness of God to His eternal word!

_____________________________________

The law was never given to the New Testament believer but the Old Testament believer. It was a standard they were to live by. It was given for the reason- to increase sin and show us that we are sinful.

The law is given to increase sin to show our sinfulness. Rom. 5:20: “Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound.” Gal 3:19: “What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made.”

In other words when Christ (the seed) was born there would be an end to the law.

Gal. 3:23-25: “But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. Therefore the Law has become our tutor (to lead us) to Christ, that we may be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. " NO MORE (Old Testament) LAW. V. 26 “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” Everything in the New Testament covenant is by faith, not law.

Rom.11:6 “And if by grace then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. but if it is by works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work." It is either one or the other it can't be both, these are two different covenants. If you choose to be under one then you are removed from the other.

Rom. 6:14-15 “For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.”

How can the law be used to prevent sin, to not let sin have mastery over you? It can’t. When people today insist that we must keep the laws of the Old Testament covenant they are removing themselves from the covenant of grace and are not under the headship of Christ but are under Moses. The New Testament makes it clear in Jn.1:17: “The Law came through Moses.” GRACE and TRUTH came through Jesus Christ.

Paul made it clear through his writings "I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain." (Gal 2:21). Gal 2:19: "For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God.” In other words, Paul is saying the law is dead to him. We don't use what is dead to have life.

Those who had been under the law ( the Jewish people) had been delivered from it to something far better, and so has the church.

Rom. 7:6: “But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.”

The Christian who seeks to keep the law to be justified or sanctified has fallen from grace (Gal 5:4).

Acts 2:42 states that the early Church followed not Old Testament rules but “the Apostles’ doctrine.”

The law of God, God’s laws, Moses commandments, God’s commandments are the same laws united under the old covenant. The law," "the law of the Lord," and "the law of Moses," are the same (they include circumcision, priesthood and sacrifices) see-Luke 2:22, 23, 24, 27; 2 Chron.31:3. ("The law," "the law of Moses," "the, book of the law," "'the law of God," are the same- Neh. 8:2, 3, 8, 14, 18.)

When God speaks about the law he does not divide the ceremonial from the moral, it is all one unit. Jews today continue to keep them as one unit identifying them as 613 laws (not 10).

Here is what needs to be answered- did Jesus fulfill only the ceremonial law of Moses or all of it? All these commands (613) were the law; these are not just Moses ordinances. They were all nailed to the cross, and whatever was nailed there died with Christ. The Old Testament law is no longer operational for the believer. Whatever the apostles taught to the church were those commands to keep as a New Testament believer.

The Old Covenant of Moses is the primary focus of the Old Testament but it is not the initial covenant with Israel- the one with Abraham was and the Mosaic covenant fulfills a number of its promises. The New Covenant becomes the primary focus of the New Testament and is the last covenant of the Bible because it reveals the grace of God through Jesus Christ to all mankind. It becomes the only way both Jews and Gentiles are restored to God.

The Judaizers who believed and kept the law by obligation came in to bring the believers back into bondage. In Acts 15:10 the early church ruled on this matter of the law. “Now therefore, why put God to the test, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear”. That the law of Moses is not binding for the gentiles is made clear in Acts 15.

The Bible says the just shall live by faith, not the law or commandments of the Old Testament.

Paul, a former law keeper, states “the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Gal 2:20)

Rom 8:3-6 “For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” It is the Spirit inside the believer that we are to obey to walk according to Jesus.

1 Cor. 15:57 “the strength of sin is the law.” But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Gal 2:16 "knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.”

The New Testament focuses on and exalts Christ not the law. So what is the law for today? Paul tells us “that the law is good if one uses it lawfully” (Tim. 1:8). So what is the law for today if it is still considered good?

Look at Paul’s interpretation in 1 Tim.1:9, that law is made NOT for good men but FOR law breakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious." Is this not the law that states all have fallen short of the glory of God? Good men would be those who repent and follow Christ, not the Old Testament laws.

So is a Christian under law? No, but there are commands we are to obey that are strictly found for the Church in the New Testament, so we are not without law, just not under the Old Covenant law.

I believe the word used was "cult', not "occult".

cult:

I am reminded of how Brother Paul had to stand against the Judaizers who were trying to impose the Law of Moses upon the young Church at Galatia.

Hebrews 8:13 (NIV)
13 By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

Yes. Isn't He wonderful?

Hebrews 10:1 - 2 (NLT)
1The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship. 2If they could have provided perfect cleansing, the sacrifices would have stopped, for the worshipers would have been purified once for all time, and their feelings of guilt would have disappeared.
______________________

Many see in the annual Day of Atonement a picture of Israel’s future cleansing when their Messiah appears to deliver them, cleanse them, and establish them in their kingdom.

The seventh month begins with the blowing of the trumpets, and there is a future “trumpet call” for Israel to gather the people together. “And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall thresh, from the channel of the River to the Brook of Egypt; and you will be gathered one by one, O you children of Israel. So it shall be in that day. That the great trumpet will be blown; they will come, who are about to perish in the land of Assyria, and they who are outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the Lord in the holy mount at Jerusalem” (Isa. 27:12-13, nkjv). Jesus also referred to this future gathering of the Jews (Matt. 24:29-31).

Just as the Day of Atonement was a day of personal “afflicting” for the Jews, so they will mourn when they see their Messiah (Zech. 12:10-14). God will give them “the spirit of grace and supplication” (v. 10), and they will repent of their sins and believe in Him. “They will look on Me, the One they have pierced, and they will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child” (v. 10, niv).

Israel’s repentance and faith will lead to their cleansing. “On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and impurity” (13:1, niv). Their Messiah who died for them will be their sin offering and burnt offering, and they will make a new beginning as a forgiven people, beloved of the Lord. What the Lord said about the Jewish remnant returning home from Babylon will be true of the nation in that great day: “Search will be made for Israel’s guilt, but there will be none, and for the sins of Judah, but none will be found, for I will forgive the remnant I spare” (Jer. 50:20, niv).

The annual Day of Atonement was followed by the Feast of Tabernacles, Israel’s most joyful time of celebration, and Israel’s future “Day of Atonement” will be followed by the establishing of the kingdom God promised to His people (Isa. 11-12; 32; 35). Creation will be delivered from the bondage of sin (Rom. 8:18-22); Jesus will reign as King, and “in His days the righteous will flourish; prosperity will abound till the moon is no more” (Ps. 72:7, niv).

God did not call His Church stiff necked people. He called the Pharisees who refuse to see that Jesus was the Messiah, stiff necked people.
Vomiting out cult stuff and having Christians refuse to eat it up DOES NOT, in ANY WAY make us stiff necked people. We know the Jesus we serve and we do NOT need a person from a CULT coming here trying to persuade us to abandon our faith in Jesus for a cult.

barrykind, nicely done. It's nice to see someone else actually pay attention to what scripture says. I like what you said. Fulfilled does not mean abolished. But then some one responds and the first thing said , It was done away with at the cross. No wonder God called us stiffnecked people.

Yom Kippur Was Fulfilled At The Cross Of Christ

The Jewish holiday that is known as Yom Kippur (The Day Of Atonement) is a feast day which can be found in the Old Testament, but which has been clearly FULFILLED already in Jesus Christ. You can find the details of this Old Testament feast day in Leviticus 16, 23:26-32 and Numbers 29:7-11. The New Testament fulfillment of Yom Kippur in Jesus Christ can be found by reading Hebrews chapters 8,9 and 10.

Right before Jesus Christ died on the cross for the SIN of mankind he cried out

” . . .IT IS FINISHED . . .” (John 19:30)

which signified that Jesus the Christ (Messiah) had completed and finished the work that the Father had called him to do. It was no coincidence that the veil in the temple was torn in two, the moment that Jesus Christ died. It was no coincidence that it was torn from top to bottom either, because that was a sign that the Lord from above had done this thing.

Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain (two) from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; (Matthew 27:50-51)

In the New Testament book of Hebrews, the writer describes the Old Covenant along with it’s tabernacle offerings and sacrifices, mainly because he is about to show us the ultimate FULFILLMENT in Jesus Christ.

Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. (Hebrews 9:1-6)

The writer describes the Holiest of All (Holy of Holies) which is behind the second veil, in the tabernacle, and which also contained the Ten Commandments, the manna and Aarons rod that budded. He spoke about the service that the priests did in that tabernacle. The high priest would take the blood from the sacrifices, and put it upon the “mercy seat” which was the lid that covered the Ark of the Covenant.

But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people: The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation. (Hebrews 9:7-10)

In this passage of scripture the Day of Atonement is being described, because that is the day when the High Priest, and him alone went behind that second veil, once a year with the blood offering which would be sprinkled upon the mercy seat. Today we can look back at those events and those sacrifices as types and shadows which pointed to the ultimate BLOOD sacrifice of Jesus Christ himself. Mercy is available for ALL of us today because Jesus Christ became the PROPITIATION (mercy seat) for ALL our sins, (Jewish and Gentile). These are described as carnal ordinances here, and it is speaking about the earthly animals, which were sacrificed, and the earthly ordinances which were meant to point to the HEAVENLY realities, fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:11-14)

Here is the point that I want you to see right here ladies and gentleman. Jesus Christ is described here as the High Priest, and the PERFECT tabernacle. Jesus “tabernacled” among us almost 2000 years ago, and his purpose in coming was to die for our sins, and thus become the ultimate atonement. The Greek word kaphar is what is used here to translate the english word atonement and it is defined as follows:

to cover (specifically with bitumen); figuratively, to expiate or condone, to placate or cancel:– appease, make (an atonement, cleanse, disannul, forgive, be merciful, pacify, pardon, purge (away), put off, (make) reconcile(-liation).

The death of Jesus Christ was meant to cover our sins, and to cancel them out in the sight of a holy God. We have been shown the greatest mercy that can possibly be given to any living human being, and what a terrible and soul damning thing, it is to reject this offer of mercy and forgiveness. The Bible makes it very clear that it is the BLOOD alone, which can atone for our souls.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. (Leviticus 17:11)

As you take a look at the land of Israel you will notice that there is no longer a Temple standing there where animal sacrifices are being offered. The last temple was ultimately destroyed in 70AD, a judgment which was prophesied by Christ in a parable. (Matthew 22:1-14) The Jewish people still celebrate the feast of Yom Kippur, but they do it in a way, that is obviously unbiblical. I have read that some Jewish people celebrate the feast of Yom Kippur, by killing roosters or hens as atoning sacrifices, which they then swing around their head as a symbol of expiating sins. Others take their money and place it inside a handkerchief, and then give it to the poor.

As a former Roman Catholic I can remember the little “Gold colored Tabernacle” that sat inside the church, which contained the “consecrated hosts” which were the bread communion wafers. Those wafers were changed into the ACTUAL body and blood of Jesus Christ through “transubstantiation” according to Roman Catholic teaching. That could be done only by an ordained Roman Catholic priest.

There was a little curtain which covered the tabernacle, which would be opened up by a string, which would then reveal a locked door, which the Catholic priest would open up with a key. The “consecrated hosts” which were not used during the Mass would be placed inside that “tabernacle” and that was known as the “Blessed Sacrament,” where the Roman Catholic people would often come to kneel and pray. This “Blessed Sacrament” was believed to be the “real presence of Jesus Christ” and sometimes a “consecrated host” would be placed inside a monstrance, and be carried in an indoor or outdoor procession. After I was born again the Holy Spirit showed me that this was pure idolatry.

The bottom line is that there is no atonement for sin for any person in the world, outside of the BLOOD that Jesus Christ shed almost 2000 years ago. A person can gain access into the very presence of God through simple faith in Jesus Christ.

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure (perhaps) for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. (Romans 5:6-9)

The good news is that God is willing and able to save even the most wicked and vile among us, solely because of the perfect BLOOD that his Son Jesus Christ shed for us. There is no longer a need for an “earthly priest” to bring a sacrifice before the Lord anymore, because Jesus Christ, our great high priest has paid the price in full. Any person, man or woman, rich or poor, black or white, Chinese, or Spanish, Korean or African and every other ethnic group in the world is invited to come to Christ, and have their sins atoned for (covered) because of what Jesus Christ did almost 2000 years ago. When you trust Jesus Christ with your soul, you then become part of the “royal priesthood of believers” in Jesus Christ.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. (1 Peter 2:9-10)
