To forgive others does not mean that we think the wrong they did is okay - we do not call evil good. And forgiveness does not mean that we will trust them or continue to spend time with them if they do not repent.

Forgiveness does mean that we let go of the pain and anger and trust God. We have a right to be angry, but we yield that right to our Father and trust Him to do what is best.

Unforgiveness is a defense mechanism to protect us from more hurt, but it can become a stronghold for the devil to use against us, even going as far back as childhood. That stronghold can become a "place" for spirits of resentment and bitterness, hatred and revenge, and so we will not experience the emotional healing of the Holy Spirit.

We cannot experience the fruit of the Spirit or know our liberty and joy in Christ, or live a holy life, if our hearts are unforgiving.

Christ had a right to be angry at all the terrible things done to Him, but He forgave and trusted in God. And God exalted Him.
