And Jesus doesn't expect you to deliver yourself from sin, or have the power to rise above it by your own efforts. That is why He meets you. But HE doesn't meet you until you meet His conditions, which as He says:

  • Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Merry Christmas!

The joy in Jesus is in giving Him the nest and the egg. In other words, give Him the whole roost. He can do nothing with a partial commitment. And He will empower full commitment. It is His joy to reveal Himself to you. His heart yearns for that more than anything.

It is rather offensive, in a 'discussion' forum, to be blatently erased just because, and that over and over again (or from time to time). After all, the reason for a 'forum', is to discuss, and not everything said is going to be to the poster's liking. And if one wants to assert his own opinion or understanding without being challenged, he can just start a blog where nothing he says can be edited out. But it is an option in an open forum. And at least one person exercises it purely for rudeness. Alas!

Anyway, I like to make a copy of anything I say so that I might have it in just such a case. And here again is an answer to the notion put forth by one stating that it is what one purposes in his or own heart to give to God, that God looks at when HE tallies the score for one of His. And it started:

Thou who accusest, divideth rightly the word of God? Whoever accusest, doeth thou the same?

The particular part of the post which sums up the whole is the part where it says (in bold):

quote:
This little lad had already been taught the responsibility of participating systematically in supporting the work of the Lord (ICor.16:2). He gave "as he purposed in his heart"; no one suggested how much he ought to give (IICor.9:7). After thinking it over carefully, he gave sacrificially (IICor.8:7,9). He "proved the sincerity of his love" (IICor.8:8), for it was with sincere, childlike affection that he said: "This is for Jesus".

This references the giving of money. It is not a picture of the giving of one's self. The fatal error in this kind of thinking is that we can contribute of our own volition, to the extent that we desire, and God will honor it. HOwever this is errant because it supposes that we can abide in sinfulness, but be recognized for what else we do contribute. It should be illustrated, particularly when witnessing to another, that when we come to Jesus to be saved, we do not come purposing to give only a portion. We must surrender all! Those are HIS conditions. And if one understands otherwise, he or she is misled.

This is illustrated by the story of the rich man who asked Jesus what HE must do to enter the Kingdom of God. Jesus, of course replied, "Sell all that you have, and 'follow' me," meaning, drop everything and be mine! Do we dare suppose after that, that we may "purpose in our heart," to give away only fifteen percent, and that Jesus will meet us? There is no half-way with God. There is all the way, or none of it. That is why there are so many out there who think that they are saved, but who are not. They were never willing to meet His conditions in order to receive. And though it seems honorable when one is able to blow his own horn to get the focus of others on what he offers to God, he only thinks to deceive, and that not only others, but even God. (Gal 6:7) But it will not work. And truth stands tall against OSAS, to which these cling.

And those who want to go only some of the way, deceive their own selves by thinking that they are doing something 'for' God. Indeed, no one can do anything 'for' God, that counts. Only what we do 'by' God amounts. And for that to be the case, there can be no purposing in the heart to give anything less than the whole person, committed to Him, trusting in His care (and His design on one's circumstances, and belongings, and path). So there is certain judgment for those who withold themselves in order to embrace the sin they love. And add to that that they mislead others, for which they will also receive judgment.

One can erase another's comments here in this life, but he cannot make it go away!
