I was referring to the fact that false teaching is such a 'hot button' topic at the BBS - "the company you keep" meaning everyone that participates here.

Does that answer your question?

According to a lot of the links that have been provided here I would guess 'accusations' would be a perfect description. How many of these people really use careful discernment? [Confused]

Thanks for providing that link for us Petri - there's a lot of enjoyable material and music in there!

This scripture keeps coming at me from every angle lately, whenever I turn on spiritually-based programmes. No matter what we are going through we should never insult God by doubting his wisdom.
1 Thess.5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Lack of discernment is not a problem among those here who aren't afraid to stand for biblical Truth. Quite frankly, there are some who have no business using the word 'discernment', because they have none and don't understand its meaning.

Besides, what PetriFB posted has nothing to do with exposing false doctrine (although BA's question is certainly fair, given the company he keeps here).

If our spiritual life affects our health we are not living in the centre of God's will.

It's all about choice. I would think that if a person is tired enough about being miserable, they would seek God's face and saturate themselves so much in the scriptures that the burden is bound to be lifted. Light pushes out darkness.

Burden Him with what burdens us.

Thanks for your opinion His grace.
But i would not dare tell him he is wallowing in self pitty,God has not given me the gift of assinating our wounded yet. I do agree that playing it over and over again in his head has done no good, but He can not seem to forget it.I think he was prepared to be betrayed from secular people, but when it came from friends and the leadership of the church, that is what sent him spinning. He is very literate scriptually and I do not ? his Salvation.Epouraniois mentioned about not wanting to hang out with a certain group of people, liars ,cheats >ect>So who are we supposed to hang out with? and as timspong said too. He has witnessed very poor behavior in his church.I always thought that the church was suppoed to be a safe place to go ,but after seeing what this guy has gone through!!WeLL I am not sure if I want to end up like Him.Before this happened he was a very likeable person full of Joy and peace and very trusting. Now He is the opposite and does not trust anyone. My concern is how this has affected his physical condition, and that is still my question.Where do we draw the line on our spiritual lives when it interferes with our health.

It reminded me of a herd of sheep that have butting contest with each other as they naturally figure out their pecking order.
In a way it’s a blessing in disguise to be at the bottom of the pecking order in a church group. The prettiest girl in the group might have 30 young admirers on her string, and the one at the bottom doesn’t have to worry as much about his affections being reciprocated.

My 2 cents opinion is that minorities should consider anglo-americans the mainstream. Essentially, anglo-americans built the political and religious foundations of this country based on faith in Christ. It’s only as they’ve compromised their faith, that they’ve lost sight of their need for salvation and guidance in Jesus.

There needs to be forgiveness all the way around. Just think how difficult it’s been for the mainstream to incorporate such diverse cultures, not to mention trying to deal with minority poverty, social alienation and antagonisms, criminal and terrorism potentials. Two major catalysts for a witch’s brew of violence might be based on having lost sight of true faith in Christ, – pornography mixed with extreme poverty. So the need for light that shines from christians as Tim Spong mentioned, is crucial – the light of mercy and purity and forgiveness through faith in Christ.

I have witnessed some very poor behaviour in my Church in the US and I assume it goes on everywhere. I was in the worship team and there was a lot of covetousness, jealousy, ego etc bubbling away under the surface and an awful lot of political manoeuvring generally in the Church as a whole. It wasn’t really obvious at all, but was there none the less.

It reminded me of a herd of sheep that have butting contest with each other as they naturally figure out their pecking order.

I guess it is indicative of our carnal nature, but it does provide experiences from which to learn how to be humble. You have to remember that Churches are made up of imperfect sinners, our hearts may be on Christ, but our sinful nature is impossible to subdue totally although we try. I think I have learned how to forgive, but I still find myself judging others, from time to time, and my humility is constant struggle.

The only person we should compare ourselves to is Christ. It is okay for us to have roll models to look up to and follow, but we must remember they too are sinners and are not perfect. We should also be mindful of the responsibility we have to those that may look up to us. After all we are lights in the world that should attract others by example.

I think the trouble comes when you compare yourself with others under the influence of your natural self serving bias.

In answer to the other theme in this thread. I think it is right and proper to challenge the authority of other doctrine. God wants us to constantly re-proof and refine our faith.

It is like a pot of gold being purified with impurities being burned out. As it becomes purer we look into it and gradually the opaque surface becomes clear and we see the face of Jesus being reflected back at us. (An oldie but a goody)

Yours in Christ

The book of Job kind of gives a glimpse into the spiritual warfare between God and satan over winning the loyalty of man to God’s goodness in spite of hardships or to satan’s deception and evil.

As HisGrace said, God proclaims His almighty majesty. Also, as the all-righteous, omnipotent God, His ways are good and beyond man’s comprehension. I believe that Jesus was God come in the flesh, partly to show God’s character, as given in the beatitudes (Matthew chap. 5): blessed are the poor in spirit, the meek, the pure in heart, the peacemakers.

But how can man maintain meekness, purity and peace through a world of turbulence, violence and suffering? It goes beyond just trying to work it out within one’s own devices or turning to occult (demonic) deceptions; it takes the healing power of the Holy Spirit through faith in the name of Jesus.

I have this standing situation here on the beach with a fellow sailor so to speak, and although I truly do forgive this person, I do not wish to hang out with people that do such things. I feel no angst, nothing at all, wishing the best of the best, but would rather hang out with no people at all if the choice is to hang out with the rip offs and liars.

Just sharing I guess. Forgiveness doens't mean we have to forget does it?

It looks as if he hasn't turned his hurts and pains over to God if they are affecting him physically. He already has recognized the reality that what happened to him was painful, so what good has it done playing it over and over again in his head - none whatsoever.

How does he let go? Born again believers are spiritually minded, so we in turn are supposed to have the mind of Christ. God has shown me lately that no matter how much we suffer, we can't even come close to what Jesus suffered on this earth and by his death on the cross.

He understands our every litte hurt and scar, and wants to help overcome them. This person should talk to God and pour out his heart as if he is talking to a very close, understanding friend, and tell him how desparate he is and fed up with suffering so much. We live in a very imperfect world, and the human spirit is always going to fail and hurt us.

Look how Job suffered, but God wouldn't allow him wallow in self-pity forever.

From Joni Eareckson's Book 'A Step Further' she talks about Job. As you probably know she has suffered a great deal as a quadraplegic.

"I came across the story of Job, the classic example of suffering. If anyone ever needed to undestand the 'why' behind his condition it was Job. His family had been killed, his property ruined and stolen, and his body inflicted with boils. Not until the last five chapters of the book does God finally walk onstage to answer the questions and challenges of Job and his friends. And when He does, do you know what reason God gives Job for all the suffering, he has experienced? None. Not a word. he doesn't sit Job down and say, "Listen carefully while I give you the inside story on why I've let you go through all of this. You see, My plan is..." In fact, so far is God from answering Job's questions that he says, "Stand up, Job. I've got a few questions to ask you."

For the next four chapters God does nothing but describe in detail the awesome majesty of his own works in nature, and then asks job if he can match them,..... It seemed so confusing. But as I came to chapter four, some light began to dawn. God finally asked Job a question that seemed to focus in on what He been driving at all along. "Do you still want to argue with the Almighty! Or will you yield? Do you -God's critic -have the answers? Stand up like a man and brace yourself for battle. Let me ask you a question, and give the answer. Are you going to discredit my justice and condemn me, so that you say you are right.?" (Job 40:1,7,8}

That is my question?

This Man has continually turned his hurts and pain over to God and He seems to be getting worse.I do not want to see Him end up like some of the others, and especially I do not want to end up like him.I have heard a saying that we can be so spirituality minded that we are no earthly good.I think that by turning ALL His hurts and pain over to God is a form of repression and not dealing with reality."I mean He is going to Die physically if He does not get some help".My thinking is if God wanted us to be spiritual beings He would of made us Angels.

"According to one psychologist, hurt and anger almost always go together. 'Seconds after the event which arouses the hurt feeling, another feeling skyrockets into awareness—anger.' The anger comes so quickly and is so apparent that it is easy to miss the hurt which comes first."

So how do you defuse the emotional bomb once you sense the countdown has begun? The power of Jesus Christ is the answer. (Philippians 4:13) He is the only one who can control your emotions and channel them in the right directions. It is also crucial to remember that anger is not intrinsically wrong. (Matthew 21:12-17) Anger in response to sin and its ill effects is a form of righteous anger, but when it crosses the line into nursing a grudge, or retaliation, or mean-spirited vengeance, it is not honoring to God.

A key principle for handling anger is found in Ephesians 4:26-27: "Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity." Have you ever gone to bed at night with an argument unsettled? How did you feel the next morning? More than likely, the sensation of weight on your heart had grown, and you might have felt physically ill.

The only solution is to turn all hurts and pain over to God.

Hi PtriFB,
I am kinda new here, basically I find it intresting reading others thoughts and opinions.I do not usually respond unless I have a question.I think we all have been mistreated in one way or another and I do agree that forgiveness is the right thing to do.I have a friend that I have been praying for almost 4 yrs.He is very bitter angry and depressed because of betrayal and mistreatment by pastors at his church. These same individuals did simular things to others and I have found that most of them are in the same state of mind,Some of the older ones"they passed away" I believe from brokenhearts.I do not want my friend to end up the same way.My question is: Where do we draw the line at?Between spiritual lives to physical lives.

I agree that forgiveness is very important for healing of the mind and spirit. But sometimes God can see the deep mental anguish of long-inflicted hurt based on evil intentions, and heal the inflicted person through faith in the powerful name of Jesus, so that forgiveness is much easier and genuine, because that person's spirit was forgiven and healed by Christ.

I agree with BA that a christian shouldn't be a doormat. If there's false doctrine or incest (as in the linked article), the perpetrator of the deception or evil should be admonished. (A lively discussion on doctrine can sometimes bring out good, new ideas based on scripture.)

Romans 12:19-21 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

And I think I understand what HisGrace is saying. So much of God's forgiveness has flowed through christian women in the past couple of generations to help heal the hurts of a violent world.

John

dear brother PetriFB from Finland, you write
quote:
You namely have to want to forgive and you have to give up all accusations towards others.
but how do you feel about "exposing false teaching", is that a valid forum to to participate in ("are those accusations or revelations"?).

Or do you think, like I have thought (but (I am not retired or home for a medical reason), that I don't have time to mind other Christian's business and I should be spending all my time getting closer to the Lord myself:

Luke 6:42
Either how can you say to your brother, "Brother, let me pull the mote out that is in your eye," when you yourself behold not the beam that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first cast the beam out of your own eye, and then shall you see clearly to pull the mote out that is in your brother's eye.

Note that the person in the parable cannot see that the beam is in his/her own eye. If that is the case, should anyone cast a stone at another bornagain Christian?

I do think we have to stand up for, or at least correct, what we think is wrong pieces of doctrine.

I cannot imagine that it is easy to suddenly, or even gradually, become and be Joyce Myer or Benny Hinn. [Big Grin]

What do you think, PetriFB, when you say:
quote:
You namely have to want to forgive and you have to give up all accusations towards others.
but how do you feel about "exposing false teaching", is that a valid forum to to participate in? Are those accusations or revelations?.

God bless, BORN AGAIN in the USA

If you have been treated badly in the past, you don't have to grieve over that. For you can be freed, if you give up your life to God and Christ. You can namely then heal and get healing of emotional life, so that old and bad matters no more bother you.

However it requires a choice from you. You namely have to want to forgive and you have to give up all accusations towards others. For nobody of us is not only a victim, but we are also guilty. We therefore can not justify our bitterness or other our sins by that, that we have been treated badly sometimes earlier, because our attitude is quite wrong as our opponents’ acts towards us.

So forgive and give up all accusations towards others, that you can get healing of emotional life!

Link: Give up accusations
