Killing unlocks fears of anti-Semitism
WHEN 16-YEAR-OLD Shem Kerry Pascal was stabbed and killed last week in Toronto, the story of his death did not make the front pages of the newspapers. Nor did it make the national television news. "I don't know why he (the assailant) stabbed him," a Toronto homicide detective told The Star later, in a story which appeared on the seventh page of the fourth section of this newspaper. "The victim was in the wrong place at the wrong time." Few of the 15 homicides that occurred in Toronto this year were front-page news.
