no Eden, not asleep....I am awake and following Yahshua!

I pray many awake or hell will have many of the easy believe-ism unborn again members as life long members.

becauseHElives must have been sleepy when he wrote the above because he should have used the word "sanctification" instead of the word "salvation":

There is no sanctification without discipleship!

There is no sanctification without taking up your cross and following Yahshua!

There is no sanctification without being born again and becoming a new creature!

There is no sanctification without dying to self!

There is no salvation without being born again and becoming a new creature!

There is no salvation without dieing to self!

None of the above are works, they are part of salvation!

Yahweh does not save an individual so he can remain the same as when he was found by Yahweh!

Carol Swenson wrote to Eden
quote:
Do you know the difference between a believer and a disciple?
Yes, a believer is someone who believes that Jesus died in his place on the cross and who believes that he therefore already HAS eternal life.

A disciple means a learner, either someone who is "just learning about the Lord for the first time and is discipled by a more knowledgeable believer", and/or a disciple is someone who continues to learn more and more about the Lord after he is saved. In the latter sense, we are all still disciples or learners.

But a disciple or discipleship has nothing to do with the notion that we should rejoice a lot more about the free gift of eternal life that God has ALREADY given us.

If we really believed that we already HAD that free gift, we would be rejoicing a lot more. But when we try to add things to the free gift, like "my good behavior" and "I should pray more" and "I should read the Bible more" so that God will be pleased with me, then we end up doubting the gift more because our behavior may be good one day and not so good the next day.

And as a result we're not so sure that we already have the free gift because when we try to add our own things to the free gift, then the free gift does not look so deserving anymore, and so we are not rejoicing.

But when we realize that God gives eternal life as a free gift just for believing in the finished work of His Son Jesus on the cross, as in, It is finished, then when we DO NOT ADD anything to that, we should be able to rejoice much more about having this amazing free gift given to us.

But when we add stuff to it, then the free gift gets obscured by our filth, and so we don't rejoice because now it seems as if I don't deserve the free gift, and then we cannot rejoice.

love, Eden

Please explain what that statement means, in relation to my Topic. What does discipleship have to do with rejoicing about the free gift of eternal life that we already have and should rejoice about more?

thanks, Eden

1 Peter 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man who asks you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.

What is this hope that is in us?

Is it not the hope of the gift of eternal life that God is willing to give to us for free, without us having to add anything to it?

Ephesians 2
8 For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

This surely must be the hope that is in us and that SHOULD make us REJOICE, REJOICE, REJOICE.

But many Christians, myself included at times, have it in their minds that they still need to ADD SOMETHING to the finished work of Jesus on the cross, who said:

John 19:30
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished; and he bowed his head, and gave up the spirit.

John 3:18
He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

So why aren't we REJOICING, REJOICING, REJOICING about this hope of the free gift of eternal life which hope SHOULD BE IN US?

It is because WE KEEP TRYING TO ADD SOMETHING TO THIS FREE GIFT eventhough Jesus said, IT IS FINISHED. We try to add good behavior, we resolve to pray more, we resolve to read the Bible more frequently, we resolve to help more people, but Jesus said, It is finished.

And God said through the Holy Spirit that anyone who believes that Jesus died in their place receives the free gift of eternal life.

Let us therefore REJOICE that we HAVE the free gift of eternal life RIGHT NOW, and that we have to do NOTHING TO ADD TO IT:

Ephesians 2
8 For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Law is when we do something for God. Grace is when God does something for us.

We should be rejoicing SO MUCH about this FREE GIFT that we already have, that people on the street should be asking us what the hope is that is inside of us:

1 Peter 3:15
... be ready always to give an answer to every man who asks you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.

love, Eden
