According to Alfred Edersheim:

Iscariot = "ish kerioth", meaning "man of Kerioth".

kerioth was a city of Judah:

Joshua 15
21 And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the coast of Edom southward were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur,

25 And Hazor, Hadattah, and Kerioth, and Hezron, which is Hazor.

It is interesting that one from His own tribe betrayed Him.

Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

This all goes back to Cain and the two seed lines of Genesis3. 15.

Ezra numbers them, and finds none of the house of Levi, and search the word 'register' and see the long list of how the Kennites got 'in', as The Christ said, they sit in Moses' seat.
