I know I posted this information before in relation to another post but it is so appropraite here I thought I would add it:
Odd as it may seem, there have been a number of researchers, in our time, that have sought the answer to this question. Some are Jewish scholars following a trail of indicators unknowing of God’s purpose, and still others are just simple Archaeologists and Anthropologists, who have stumbled upon groups here and there that have an apparent past connection with Israel, again totally unaware of this connection!
I recommend a brief look at the teachings of Rabbi Avraham Feld and the work of Orthodox Scholar Yair Davidy to see the Jewish perspective on this subject, it is surprisingly aware of the role of gentile Christianity in the fulfillment of these end time events (Japheth in the tent of Shem).
One researcher of Japanese descent that I have read, named Arimasa Kubo, speaks of a particular group of Japanese people of the Shinto tradition, that not only share in their rituals and history many similarities with the ancient Hebrews, but DNA studies have revealed a peculiarity in their Y-Chromosomes that is shared with neither the Chinese or the Koreans, but rather it is shared with the Jewish people! In Japan, the “Suwa-Taisha“ Shinto Shrine sits in front of a “Mount Moriya“ (Mt. Moriah?), and these people, who’s ancient ancestors allegedly came from the far west, perform a ritual sacrifice (now done in mock style but for over 70 generations a real boy and real animals were employed) where a father scales Mt. Moriya with his son, his only son, as led to do by the god of Moriya, and the father then binds him to a large sacrificial wooden stake, and intends to sacrifice him in obedience to the god of Mt. Moriya, then a messenger from this god appears (in the form of a second priest) and tells the father figure, that because he has offered such a sacrifice, the son is to be spared, and that the god of Moriya would provide the sacrifice, and at that point 75 Deer are sacrificed (there were no Rams in that country), but please note that Deer are in fact Kosher. Why 75? Well it is suggestively conjectured by some that the number is borrowed from the ancient Israelite Passover Sacrifice on Mt. Gerizim as performed by the Ephraimites in Samaria. From when the House of Israel was located in that place, and right up to modern times, they would offer exactly 75 sheep. This one profound corresponding example does not even touch upon the amazing work that has been done in this area in recent decades.
Likewise, the people of Kashmir, in Northern India, have among them a people who pass on an oral tradition that claims, that originally their ancestors came from the very area that we now call Israel. Some of their local land names are very similar to Hebrew names, and they practice a yearly feast in the spring that is remarkably similar to the Passover.
Then there is the Lemba of South Africa. This people always claimed to be Jewish, but no one ever believed them because they are very dark skinned. It wasn’t until very recently that some scientists, ready to absolve the controversy once and for all went there to do DNA studies, and lo’and behold it turns out that in fact, they are of a mixed Hebrew heritage, of Levitical stock, that had originally settled in Yemen tens of centuries ago, and then migrated there, became acculturated, and eventually intermarried.
The Yasufzai of Afghanistan also have Israelite customs as well, and their name literally means, “the Children of Joseph“! Their oral history likewise goes back thousands of years when they allegedly were led to and settled in this area.
The Knanites, actually speak and write a variation of ancient Aramaic, and their name means “the people of Canaan“, and then there are also the Chiang-Min and Kaifeng of China, and the tribe of Manashe who reside in Burma to this day (Manasseh?).

Excellent Eden, praise be to the Lord...here is some more to chew on regarding Ephraim (the remaining lost sheep of the house of Israel). I know it is long but there is value in it...
In the Books of the Prophets, there are many passages which deal with the phenomena, that much of Ephraim would become broken off and lost (both spiritually and geo-physically), and likewise about their inevitable recovery from among the various gentile nations some time after the coming of this first of two appearances of Messiah, in the latter days, and this eschatological process finally would reach it’s ultimate fulfillment just before His second advent, when He comes on the clouds like as a Son of Man, the veritable Scion of David.
It is said of this inevitable return that they would then dwell in the land forever, and not necessarily regarding the post-1948 return, although this is indeed related and significant.
We find many of these promises within the insights provided from predominately 6 chapters, and these are: Jeremiah 30; 31; and 50; Isaiah 11 and 49; and from the New Covenant writings in Roman’s 11! A summation of the points found therein as discerned by this author are as follows:
Clearly the majority of Ephraim (also called Joseph, the House or Kingdom of Israel) were already as “scattered sheep“ (Jeremiah 50:17), and the other two tribes (Judah and Benjamin, the House or Kingdom of Judah) were about to follow. All of Israel proper eventually became “lost sheep“ (Jeremiah 50:6).
Yet the Lord promised that the Day would come when Jacob would be brought back (Isa. 49:5; Ezek. 39:25), and lost Ephraim as well would eventually realize who they were/are, and seek to worship Him, and be brought home, and along with the faithful gentile converts it is said that He would be their God, they would be called “the sons of the living God“, and He would remember their sins no more.
He would accomplish this by raising up a Shepherd King, called elsewhere “the Branch“ (the natzar or tsemech), the Servant, who is Messiah. First as Ha’Moschiach, called ben Yosef in the Talmud, and later as Ha’Moschiach, ben David, the one likened unto a son of man “coming in the clouds“, whom they will eventually realize is the one who was pierced (Zech. 12:10), and the whole earth shall mourn because of Him, by and through whom the gentiles would be their preservation, and carry them back in their arms. It is written that, the Gentiles will bear Israel on their shoulders (Isaiah 49:22)! Yet, it is the Lord Himself who will do it.
These would have a New Covenant, which was to be an eternal Covenant of Peace (the Shalom of God, Shalom with God, and Shalom with one another, and with all men as much as is possible). This is a Covenant where the Law would be written in their hearts not after the one written in stone, and they would KNOW that YHVH was their Lord (Jeremiah 30, 31).
It is not a continuation or renewal of the Covenant from Sinai (actually Horeb in Midian), which they broke so many times. It is a New Covenant. In the end, the very nations that spoiled them shall be spoiled, the nations that accosted them shall be accosted by the Lord Himself, and the nations that caused their captivity will in fact be made captives.
It is written that they would return to the land never again to be removed, in a “time of unwalled cities“ (such as the one we now live in), just before the “time of Jacob’s trouble“*, throughout it, and even after the risen Messiah returns figuratively described as David, their King, whom the Lord raised up. They will be in the land forever, in that Day! That is, for as long as there is an ever, for even time will eventually be thrown into the lake of fire with hell and death after the 1,000 year reign, whether this is literal or figurative 1,000 years as we understand it!
* A historical recapitulation of the earlier times of Jacob’s trouble, which were but type to this later ultimate anti-type called the great tribulation.
We know this final return did not occur in the post-exhilic return of Nehemiah and Ezra, for they were again dispersed by Titus, neither being ultimately fulfilled in the ending of the great dispersion (1948), though this is a significant event, but rather it is a process through-out the Latter Days of the Shepherd/Servant, in which we now are, and just prior to His triumphant return on the clouds, at the end of the age, as they will come out of that time of “Jacob’s trouble“, which we followers of Y’shua call the Tribulation Period!
Many of these “scattered sheep“, i.e., the “lost sheep“ of the House of Israel, are presently part of the gentile nations, having been sown within them by the LORD Himself, and are even within the denominational Churches in great numbers. Many are still as yet unaware of their Hebrew/Israelite heritage. Many are sheep who are only hearing His voice now, and I believe they are beginning to be called out to an awakening in our very time! But they have to hear the gospel.
Many still are genealogically Israelite, and know it, and will accept Jesus as their King Messiah if presented with the option. They have to know that accepting Y’shua does not mean they must cease being Hebrew or even a practicing Jew. In fact it is the fulfillment of their purpose as what we call Jewish people.
Now these are not being “called out“ as a separate or new Church, God forbid, but as they are, to be part of the true living church, spiritual Israel, “Jew and Gentile one in the Messiah“.
We gentiles who have been grafted into the vine of God (Romans 11), heirs of the promises by faith, will be instrumental in, and are responsible for, waking up the faithful of Ephraim (who have been sown in among us) and Judah, to the redemptive plan of God, the truthfulness and reliability of His word, and to the true identity of their suffering Messiah, called ben-Joseph by the Rabbis of old. He of whom it is said would be “a light unto the Gentiles”, “the Messenger of the Covenant”, and the bearer of the “Good Tidings“ (the Gospel), who would also be the Servant sent to bring “Jacob back“ (Isaiah 49:5,6). And in that Day (Zechariah 12:10), they all shall become “one stick“ (Judah and Joseph, the Lion and the Lamb, which includes the Gentiles of faith), one (echad) in Messiah.
The true Church of God is neither Jew nor Gentile. It is a new people, formerly not called a people at all. They are of the second Adam, being no more Jew or Gentile spiritually speaking, but rather one entirely new people that includes:
a)the faithful natural branches of the Olive tree (believing Jewish people),
b)those that were “broken off“ (Ephraim that was sown into the gentiles), and
c)the wild branches which have been grafted in (gentiles brought in through Christ),
…all of whom are “one in Messiah“ (Ezekiel 37:16-27/ Roman’s 11).
He alone is the Sanctuary of God (The true Temple raised up in three days, who is the Glory of the Father, as revealed by the Apostle John and elsewhere, tabernacling among us, i.e., the fullness of the Godhead bodily) in whom we, and according to Saint Paul, “all Israel“ shall be saved (Leviticus 26:11,12; Romans 11). So who is “all Israel”? All who have been saved by grace through faith whether of the natural vine, those previously “broken off”, or those like me who have been grafted in.
Now let us explore another clue. Paul tells us that the ultimate completion of this (Roman’s 11) process will happen when “the fullness of the Gentiles“ has come in. When “the fullness of the Gentiles” comes in, the olive branches that were broken off being rejoined, and the wild olive branches being grafted in, the sticks of Judah and Joseph will once again become “one stick“ in the hand of Messiah. All these are the same phenomena, and will not be fully realized (as to what this all means) until just following the time of Jacob’s trouble (the Tribulation period) which culminates in the coming of the Son of Man, again as Zechariah 12:10 indicates.
I believe this final fulfillment, when they are all one, will be complete following the time of the Two Witnesses of Revelations 11, who as it appears now, against that which was previously illumined, are possibly not just two individual human witnesses at all, but as the Scripture itself says the “two olive trees“. According to the Scriptures these could well be Ephraim (within the Church), which had became “Roa“, or broken off, or made worthless (Jeremiah 11:16), because they had become “a degenerate shoot and a foreign vine“ (the word for “foreign“ here in the Hebrew, being the Hebrew word “nokri“ a common euphemism for “gentiles“ among the Rabbis, even to this day…see Jeremiah 2:21), and the other being the people of Judah (Judaism) who have come to believe. The Scripture elsewhere describes the two olive trees as “two anointed ones“ that God has sent, perhaps Enoch and Elijah because they have not yet tasted death, or as some believe they could be Moses and Elijah (representing the witness of the Law and the Prophets) who appeared with Messiah on the Mount in glory, or perhaps it is the two appearances of Messiah being stated only in allegory.
Whoever, or whatever, the two witnesses shall be that are among us, at the end of this time, Messiah will return, and the elect of Israel and Judah will be saved in that day along with all the Gentiles who have likewise found their rest in Shiloh! The condition’s just prior to His second coming setting the stage for many from Judah’s final and full conversion in Messiah.
Lastly, we see prophetic confirmation of all this in the Book of Ezekiel chapter 34.
Remember when Jesus was talking to Peter and He asked him, “Do you love me“? And then Peter, after having answered in the affirmative, is instructed, “Then feed my sheep“? Well we see why Jesus emphasized this three times. In Ezekiel’s prophecy it is written, “Oh, shepherds of Israel…should not shepherds feed their sheep“?
You see, God’s accusation against them rests on the fact that though they had fed themselves, they had not fed the sheep. In other words they had not given them the genuine word of God but rather claimed they had heard from Him, when they did not. They had not led them in the way, according to the words of the LORD of Israel. He says that they did not feed his sheep. They did not strengthen the weak, heal the sick, bind up the crippled, bring back the strays, or search for and seek out that which was lost. In verse 6 He declares, His “sheep are scattered…over all the face of the earth, with none to search or seek for them“!
But alas, God is good to His children and promises them an as yet future fulfillment when He promises “I, yes I myself will search and seek…as a Shepherd“. In verse 15 He goes on to say that He will be their Shepherd, and that He will seek them out and secure them a place to lie down and rest. YHVH of Hosts will seek the lost. He will gather the strays, bind up the crippled, strengthen the weak…feed them justice…He will judge…He will save His flock. The Lord Himself always was our Shepherd just as David proclaims in Psalm 23. Yet further on in Ezekiel He illumines us as to how He will do this. He tells us that His servant David, a term used figuratively for the Messiah, is the one Shepherd who will feed them, the Lord shall be their God, and Messiah will rule among them. They will enter this New Covenant of Peace and Security…and become a blessing. He will break the yoke of bondage and deliver them as in days of old, and they shall not fear, for the Lord will be with them (Immanu-El).

What happened to the 10 northern tribes of Israel who were eventually to be “mixed in” among the Gentiles?

Then said the Jews among themselves, Where will he go, that we shall not find him? Will he go to the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
In the period 640 B.C. to 612 B.C. a group of people known to history as the Scythians suddenly appeared in and around the mountains of Armenia and from there they passed through the Caucasus Pass to the N side of the Caucacus mountains and from there they invaded the E and N and W sides of the Euxine Sea.
The Greeks called these people the Scythae or Nomades, which meant wanderers. Among themselves too these people called themselves Scoloti, meaning wanderers, and from that word also comes the shorter form Scoti and the English word Scots (and Scotland), which, just as the Greek word Scythian, also means wanderers.
The first appearance of these Scythians occurred in 640-612 B.C., the period of Assyria's declining power which led to the destruction of Nineveh in 612 B.C. and which saw the rise of Media to its N and Chaldea/ Babylonia to its SE, a period when Assyria had absolutely no time to concern itself with minor regional populations.
Christian scholars therefore believe that these Scoloti or Scythians were none other than portions of the 10 tribes of northern Israel (and possibly also a mixture of non-Israelite tribes who had also been settled in those Assyrian transplantation areas by Tiglath-pileser III and by Sargon II) and these portions of the 10 tribes of northern Israel suddenly took advantage of Assyria's disinterested condition and passed NW from Assyria to the mountains of Armenia and from there N into the Caucasus mountains and through the Caucasian Pass to the N side of the Caucasus mountains, from where they invaded the territory E and N and W of the Euxine Sea (the Black Sea).
By the late 6th century B.C., these wandering tribes had firmly established themselves along the entire corridor from the W side of the Median massif to the W side of the Euxine Sea (Black Sea) along the Danube river, so that the Greeks called all of tribes by the general name of Scythae or Scoloti. The Scoloti nearer to the W Euxine Sea spoke the dialects near to that of the Thracians and the Scoloti nearer to the Median massif spoke the dialect nearer to that of Persia.
In the meantime, however, the portions of the 10 tribes of northern Israel which had been settled by Tiglath-pileser III and Sargon II in the cities of the Medes could not have escaped at that time because the rise in power of the Japhethite Medes (which together with Chaldea/Babylonia destroyed Nineveh in 612 B.C.) would have prevented those portions of the 10 tribes of northern Israel from leaving a strong Media, all the while the Assyrian portion of northern Israel passed through the Caucasian Pass.
But later, when the Medo-Persian empire was itself smashed by the Greeks under Alexander the Great in (331-321 B.C.??), the opportunity arose for that Median portion of northern Israelites to pass out of Media and they then came down from off the Median massif to the N end of the Caspian Sea, where by 250 B.C., a people known in history as the Samartae appeared who crossed the Don river which flows from Upper Europe into Upper Russia and into the NW side of the Caspian Sea.
These Samartae were almost certainly none other than the people who had derived their name from Samaria, the name of the capital city of the 10 northern tribes of Israel whose capital city was Samaria which was besieged by Sargon II in 721 B.C., and who took these Samaritans captive to Assyria and placed them in the cities of the Medes.
After having crossed the Don river, the Sarmatae encountered the Scoloti or Scythians who had a few centuries earlier come out of the transplantation cities of Assyria and who were by then dwelling all around the E and N and W end of the Euxine Sea and along the rivers which flowed into the Euxine Sea, such as the [name the rivers].
These Samartae in turn displaced these Scoloti from the immediate area of the Euxine Sea and drove the Scoloti farther N up and along these rivers. History records that in 179 B.C. again, these Sarmatae repulsed yet another attack from the Scoloti who attacked the Sarmatae by their former territory along the Euxine Sea.
