I was recently struck by Jeremiah's response here to the persecution of himself and how it so contrasts with that of Christ...

Jeremiah 18:19 Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.
20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.
21 Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.
22 Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
23 Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.

David also did this. I think that it is a very beautiful picture of how we need to be made more like Christ on one hand, and on the other it also speaks to the fact that these servants knew that GOD was their avenger. So we see our humanity and our need for HIS divinity and also the fact that those who are human, but are lovers of God also trust that GOD is their banner in battle, their avenger, and HE will not let our persecutions go un dealt with, and he understands our humanity and thus our contention or controversy with him and he even allows it, and then uses it to give us deeper understanding of HIM.

Our God is an Awesome God!

I just wanted to post the below. I found it to hit home with me. I find my self doing the same thing sometimes.

:::::::::::::
"Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously? Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins. But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter. How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end." (Jeremiah 12:1-4, KJV)

Controversy with God (Jeremiah 12:1-4)
The enmity which Jeremiah experienced from the people of Anathoth, his native place, causes him to expostulate with God and to demand that they be cut off out of the land—“pull them out like sheep for the slaughter.” Think how easy it is to get into that mood!
