The United States is at war. But it is more than a war in Afghanistan and Iraq. It is a war against the world as well as a war in the world. More importantly, it is a war steeped in a policy at cross purposes with God. Herein lies the danger. For many Christians, this statement is obvious.
According to the scriptures, however, we have allowed our leadership to place us in a very dangerous position. Our military it seems is in nearly every part of the world.
Our political policies and tax dollars are promoting the abolishment of marriage, disarming people so they cannot defend themselves, killing the innocent unborn, waging economic war on ourselves and our allies through failed fiscal policies, and waging war on many fronts.
Our borders are unprotected. Our military is overextended. We are supporting Israel on one hand, but using the other to build up the enemies of Israel. We have trouble in Europe economically and politically. There is trouble in the Middle East. There is brewing trouble in the Far East.
America's political leaders for all practical purposes have bankrupted this country, overextended its ability to protect itself, and have abandoned the moral ground that traditionally has been considered "American Values."
It just so happens that all of this is at cross purposes with the Creator of the universe. There are natural consequences to our actions according to the principles of God as communicated through scripture.
Consider the blessings and curses the Lord gave to Moses.
Deuteronomy 28:1 says, "And it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command you this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth."
Verse 15 says, "But it shall come to pass, if you will not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command you this day; that all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you."
The list is a long one that includes disease, adultery, consumption, mildew, drought, and eventually being given over to enemies and captivity.
People ask how long will the Lord tarry before passing judgment on America. Often our actions catch up to us before judgment occurs.
The natural consequences of our wicked rulers, elected by the general population, could cause a Deuteronomy scenario without the Lord executing judgment.
You cannot abolish marriage, kill the innocent, play both evil and good in foreign policy, refuse to defend the people and the nation, and be horrible financial stewards without something bad happening.
The Lord said in Ezekiel 22:30, "And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it:"
I pray we will find a way to make up the hedge before the last part of that verse comes about, "...but I found none."
