I'm not exactly sure what Timothy Dailey's thesis statement is? One costumer who reviewed his book said the author believes there is a conspiracy to use the paranormal to destroy Christianity.

I'm not sure all paranormal activity is from the devil (which is not say the devil isn't at least partly responsible either). If we look at the story of the witch of Endor, Saul had a medium contact Samuel and bring his spirit up from sheol. I don't think this spirit of Samuel was a demon in disguise though...

Samuel was very disturbed about being awakened from his sleep. The spirit of Samuel told Saul that he had acted foolishly by his disobedience, and that's why the Lord was not speaking to him. Also, Saul and his sons would die for his trespass against the Lord; he would be handed over to the Philistines.

I'm not sure the spirit of Samuel was a demon pretending to be him, because Samuel's words are consistent with what the Lord's commands. However, as far as we are concerned, the Lord says we need to test the spirits--even if an angel were to preach a different gospel we need to show discernment.
