"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the Word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also, after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise" (Eph. 1:13).

Most careful commentaries of the Bible make it clear that the words "after that," in the above passage, actually have an immediate result in view. Upon hearing (or heeding) we believed, and upon believing we were sealed with the Spirit.

What is perhaps even more important to note, is the fact that upon believing "the gospel of... salvation," we are "sealed with" the "Holy Spirit," not "by" the Spirit. There is a difference between the two, which can be simply illustrated.

Here is a housewife, let us say, who is "putting up" jam or preserves and sealing each jar with wax. Now, the jars are being sealed by the woman, but she is sealing them with wax. Thus the Holy Spirit does not merely cause believers to be sealed and made secure. Rather He Himself is the Seal that keeps us eternally secure as God's beloved children. We are sealed, not "by the Spirit," but "with the Spirit," -- the Spirit Himself the Seal!

It is wonderful indeed to know that before the bar of God, the simplest believer in Christ has been fully justified (Acts 13:38,39). But this is a court action, a matter of law and justice. Besides this, the Spirit, who first brought the sinner under conviction, now gives him life -- eternal life. This is why Rom. 8:2 tells us that "the law of the Spirit, [that] of life in Christ Jesus, hath made me free from the law of sin and death." Thank God for the Spirit, who convicts, regenerates and seals every believer in Christ!

He Has Sealed Us
Ephesians 1:13

The entire process of salvation is given in this verse, so we had better examine it carefully. It tells how the sinner becomes a saint. First, he hears the Gospel of salvation. This is the good news that Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again (1 Cor. 15:1ff). The Ephesians were Gentiles, and the Gospel came “to the Jew first” (Rom. 1:16). But Paul, a Jew, brought the Gospel to the Gentiles as he shared the Word of God with them.

The Ephesians “heard the Gospel” and discovered it was for them—“your salvation” (Eph. 1:13). The Bible announces, “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). A soul-winner announces the truth of the Gospel and invites men to trust Christ, and the Holy Spirit does the rest. The same God who ordains the end, the salvation of souls, also ordains the means to the end, the preaching of the Gospel in the power of the Spirit.

Having heard the Word, the Ephesians believed; and it is this faith that brought salvation (Eph. 2:8-9). This pattern follows what Paul writes in Romans 10:13-15. It is God’s plan for evangelism. When the Ephesians believed, they were “sealed with the Spirit .” “After that ye believed” should read “when ye believed.” You receive the Spirit immediately on trusting Christ . This is not an experience subsequent to conversion. (Read Acts 10:34-48.)

What is the significance of this sealing of the Holy Spirit? For one thing, it speaks of a finished transaction . Even today, when important legal documents are processed, they are stamped with the official seal to signify the completion of the transaction. This sealing also implies ownership: God has put his seal on us because He has purchased us to be His own (1 Cor. 6:19-20). It also means security and protection . The Roman seal on the tomb of Jesus carried this meaning (Matt. 27:62-66). So, the believer belongs to God, and is safe and protected because he is a part of a finished transaction. According to John 14:16-17, the Holy Spirit abides with the believer forever. It is possible for us to grieve the Spirit and thereby lose the blessings of His ministry (Eph. 4:30). But He doesn’t leave us.

Another use for the seal is as a mark of authenticity . Just as a signature on a letter attests to the genuineness of the document, so the presence of the Spirit proves the believer is genuine. “If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His” (Rom. 8:9). It is not simply our lip profession, our religious activity, or our good works, but the witness of the Spirit that makes our profession authentic.

Easy Christianity
6. Eternal Security

Modern "Easy Christianity" - dedicated to effortless and carefree religion- has invented the doctrine of eternal security or "once saved-always saved." With such insurance one who has boarded the "train bound for glory," may relax and go to sleep. Having made his deposit in the bank of salvation, he may spend the rest of his money as he likes.

This is false doctrine! The Word of God nowhere teaches that once a man is born again he may give free rein to the lusts of the flesh and be as worldly as he pleases, yet still be sure of getting to heaven. Rather, it teaches, "If you live according to the flesh, you will die" (Romans 8:13). "If anyone does not remain in me," Jesus said, "He is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned" (John 15:6). The Apostle Peter remarks, "It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to have known it and then to turn their backs...of them the proverbs are true `A dog returns to its vomit,' and, `A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud'" (2 Peter 2:22,23).

Is there no assurance for the Christian that he will make it to glory? Of course there is! But it is found in the Reformation doctrine of the "Perseverance of the Saints." Scripture teaches that all those who are once saved persevere in holiness and are finally saved. This is great comfort for the true Christian, but none to the one who wants carefree Christianity.

If your hope is in a decision or experience long past, but not followed to the present by a new life, your soul is not safe! Do not let such false assurance destroy you!

It is not simply our lip profession, our religious activity, or our good works, but the witness of the Spirit that makes our profession authentic.

So why would someone deceive himself or herself into believing that saying a few quick words at an altar call is any indication that they are saved? Yet many do just that. If you are truly saved, there should be some indication of that in your life. We cannot add to what Christ did on the cross, but if Christ is your Savior and Lord and the Holy Spirit is living inside of you, that should manifest itself in some way , shape, and form. You should want to do the will of your Heavenly Father. You should love Jesus' name. You should crave His Word. You should hate sin. You should not see salvation as something that gives you a license to sin.

...and here I thought all along it was Who we belonged to!!??!!! If the Spirit of God lives in one...they are a child of God...that leaves no room for judging another Brother for whom Christ died correct? All must stand and give an account for deeds done in their body...that's between the individual and Christ.

There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus walking after the Spirit correct? correct.

The Father will either prune it or burn it...correct? I leave that gardening to Abba Father.

I think that what you are opposed to is the "Free Grace" of easy believism. I'm opposed to that also. It burns me to think that people call themselves Christians, even some pastors, yet they habitually practice adultery and other sins our Lord Jesus Christ died for. But, respectfully, I think we should be careful of the terms we use when speaking about free grace.

Is there no assurance for the Christian that he will make it to glory? Of course there is! But it is found in the Reformation doctrine of the "Perseverance of the Saints."

Perseverance of the saints (also known by the common expression "Once Saved, Always Saved", and the relative acronym OSAS) is a Christian teaching taught in some branches of Protestantism which teaches that none who are truly saved can be condemned for their sins or finally fall away from the faith. The doctrine appears in two different forms: (1) the traditional Calvinist doctrine found in the Reformed Christian confessions of faith, and (2) the Free Grace or non-traditional Calvinist doctrine found in some evangelical churches. In a sense, both can describe Christian believers as "once saved, always saved", but the two forms attach a different meaning to the word saved — namely, whether or not it necessarily involves the process of becoming holy by rejecting sin and obeying God's commands. Because of this difference, traditional Calvinist Christians tend to prefer the historical term "perseverance of the saints", which is one of the five points of Calvinism.

Submission to God's rule and living in accordance with his moral law (expressed concisely in the Ten Commandments) is a response to grace - never something which can earn God's acceptance (legalism). Even in his giving of the Ten Commandments, God introduces his law by reminding the Israelites that he is the one who brought them out of slavery in Egypt (grace).

Carol it's a little deeper than that.....

I am opposed to what you have stated in the above quote but how most people view salvation is a problem...

the majority of what is being taught in the church today is instantaneous birth....

this is not what scripure teaches...

scripture teaches the seed is planted (the word of Yahweh) then growth and matures.....

Galatians 4
19My little children, for whom I am again suffering birth pangs until Christ is completely and permanently formed (molded) within you,

20Would that I were with you now and could coax you vocally, for I am fearful and perplexed about you!

on this particular subject....the Holy Spirit does not seal anyone who has not had Yahshua completely and permanently formed (molded) within you,

becauseHElives, the Holy Spirit is Himself the seal. So you are saying that you don't have the Holy Spirit within you because you are not yet sealed.

Romans 8:9
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

We persevere because God has sealed or secured us eternally with His Spirit. We cannot have one without the other. By any common understanding of the language, for the saints to persevere (continue in a state of Grace) means that they are eternally secured, for that is what secured or sealed means.

All who are truly in Christ persevere because they are secured eternally. Anything less, is Salvation by works. There is not one person who will ever be lost from the ranks of those called and chosen of God who had their sins forgiven by God. Because if one is eternally secure, he obviously cannot fall, and thus by definition must persevere. If not, then we have to redefine terms so eternal doesn't mean eternal. A saint is either eternally secure, or else he is not a saint, and has not been made sanctified and Holy before God. Because everlasting life cannot be temporary or fleeting. That would be a contradiction in terms.

Salvation by works is to be fallen from Grace.

Galatians 5:4 (NASB)
You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

The purpose of Paul’s letter to the Galatians was to warn against the Judaizers because they attempted to lure born-again Christians back to justification through the Law, which is impossible (Galatians 2:16). He reminds them of the freedom they have in Christ: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1).

Luk 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

I have to agree with Carol. To believe that salvation is a process is to believe that we are saved by works. Discipleship and spiritual growth is a progress. There will be those in Heaven who would have spent their entire Christian lives as baby Christians. There will be many tears when they realize how they wasted their lives.

Salvation is a birth. Sanctification is growth.

To say we must be sanctified before we are saved is to say we must grow-up before we are born!

Yes sanctification is in three parts, the final part being glorification, but the process cannot even begin until we are saved. Sanctification is a process because it is a linear action while salvation is a punctiliar action. In the Greek a punctiliar action is a single event while a linear action is a continuous action.

quote:
on this particular subject....the Holy Spirit does not seal anyone who has not had Yahshua completely and permanently formed (molded) within you,
The Holy Spirit IS HIMSELF the seal. How could anyone have Christ formed in him without the Holy Spirit indwelling him first?

Galatians 4:19 was written to believers who had turned away from grace to legalism for salvation. It actually disproves your point.

Paul tried to help the Galatian believers with their confused spiritual lives. When he had first come to them with the Gospel, he had “travailed” spiritually to see them turn to the Lord. But now the Galatian Christians were falling back into legalism and Paul had to travail over them again. He longed to see Christ formed in them, just as we parents long to see our children mature in the will of God.

The contrast between Paul and the rival teachers is striking. Their selfish motive is to attach the Galatians to themselves so that they will be the center of attention; Paul labors to attach them to Christ (instead of the law) so that the full moral character of Christ will be expressed in them.

THE RAMIFICATIONS OF SEALING

Security

The concept of sealing includes the ideas of ownership, authority, responsibility, and, above all, security. Sealing assures us of the security of God’s promises to us, especially our salvation. We can be certain (a) that He possesses us, (b) that we have a secure salvation sealed by and with the Spirit, and (c) that He purposes to keep us to the day of our full redemption.

Registered mail furnishes a good example of the security concept in sealing. When registering a piece of mail, it not only has to be sealed carefully but then the post office stamps it a number of times across the edges of the seal to be able to detect any tampering with that seal. Only two people can legitimately break the seal, the recipient or the sender (if it is delivered back to him). In the case of believers, God is the Sender and God is the Recipient, and God is the One who does the sealing. So only God can break the seal and He has promised not to do so until the day of redemption.

Both 2 Corinthians 1:22 and Ephesians 1:13-14 mention the gift of the Spirit as an earnest along with sealing. The association is quite logical. Sealing guarantees that we shall receive all that God has promised us, some of which awaits our future redemption. The presence of the Spirit in our lives serves as an earnest or pledge that all will be fulfilled. In human affairs, once earnest money has been given and received, both the purchaser and the seller are pledged to complete the transaction. Similarly, the gift of the Spirit serves as God’s pledge that He will not go back on any of His promises to us.

Purity

The thought of the day of our full redemption when we shall be perfect should shame us about sin in our lives now. Furthermore, the fact that we have a relationship with the Holy Spirit who is grieved when we sin should motivate us to purity.

What sins grieve Him? Any and all sins. But in the immediate context (the two verses that surround 4:30) sins of the tongue are highlighted. Of course, what comes from our mouths is indicative of what is in our hearts. The thought of being sealed by and in the Holy Spirit should guard our lips.

This is for you...I think it's what you have been saying about seed and harvest.

quote:
scripture teaches the seed is planted (the word of Yahweh) then growth and matures.....

THE WORD OF GOD
The Seed

"Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God. Luke 8:11

The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the true Word of God, the foundation of Christian faith, understanding, life and ministry. The Scriptures are without error and are not to be added to, taken from, or changed by tradition or supposed revelation:

For ever, O Lord, thy Word is settled in Heaven. (Psalms 119:89)

THE TRIUNE GOD
The Lord of the Harvest

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the Harvest... (Matthew 9:38)

The Godhead consists of God the Father, God the Son Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit:

For there are three that bear record in Heaven, the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (I John 5:8)

God The Father: There is but one God, unlimited, eternal and perfect, Creator of Heaven and earth:

For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God Himself that formed the earth and made it; He hath established it, He created it not in vain; He formed it to be inhabited; I am the Lord, and there is none else. (Isaiah 45:18)

God The Son: Jesus Christ: Jesus Christ was supernaturally conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He was the perfect sacrifice for the sin of all mankind through His death and the shedding of His blood. He arose from the dead in His own glorified body, appeared to many, ascended into Heaven, and will return to earth in power and glory. He is now the Head of His Body, the Church, victor over all the powers of darkness, and is at the right hand of God making intercession for believers:

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in Heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)

God The Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit inspired the Word of God, anointed Jesus Christ for His ministry, filled the Church with Pentecostal power, and will transform the mortal bodies of believers in the glory of resurrection.

The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, unites man to Jesus Christ in faith, brings about the new birth, and dwells within the believer. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is available to all who believe in Jesus Christ and will be evidenced by the ability to be a powerful witness of our resurrected Lord as well as the confirming sign of Acts 2:4:

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

The gifts of the Spirit are available to the believer through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, who bestows them on every man as He will:

But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as He will. (I Corinthians 12:11)

The Holy Spirit also makes possible the fruit of the Spirit, enabling the believer to grow in sanctification:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance... (Galatians 5:22-23)

MAN
The Sower

Behold there went out a sower to sow. (Mark 4:3)

Man was created by God in the image and likeness of God. Through the original sin of Adam and Eve, all men became sinful in nature. Man is totally incapable of returning to God in himself, and is lost without hope apart from the salvation of Jesus Christ:

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from Heaven. (I Corinthians 15:45-47)

SALVATION
The Harvest

But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the Word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit...(Matthew 13:23)

Salvation is the gift of God through grace and faith in Jesus Christ. There is no name except that of Jesus Christ by which mankind may be saved. By turning from sin, bringing forth the fruit of repentance, and trusting in Christ and His death for the sins of all, man is born again to eternal life by the Holy Spirit. Through this redemptive act comes forgiveness of sin, liberation from bondage of the world, and freedom in the Spirit of God.

For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through (your) faith. And this (salvation) is not of yourselves--of your own doing, it came not through your own striving--but it is the gift of God; Not because of works (not of the fulfillment of the Law's demands), lest any man should boast.--It is not the result of what any one can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself. (Ephesians 2:8-9, The Amplified Bible)

THE CHURCH
The Laborers

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that He will send forth laborers into His harvest. (Matthew 9:38)

The Church is the Body and Bride of Christ. The primary mission of the Church is to teach all nations and to make disciples, taking the Gospel of the Kingdom to all men and nations with confirming signs:

And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach and publish openly the good news (the Gospel) to every creature (of the whole human race). He who believes-- (that is,) who adheres to and trusts in and relies on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth--and is baptized will be saved (from the penalty of eternal death); but he who does not believe--who does not adhere to and trust in and rely on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth--will be condemned. And these attesting signs will accompany those who believe:

In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; they will pick up serpents, and (even) if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well.
(Mark 16:15-18, The Amplified Bible)

THE CONSUMMATION
The Final Harvest

Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. (Revelation 14:15)

The consummation [the end] of all things includes the visible and glorious return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, and the translation of those alive in Christ unto the judgment of the just and the unjust. Satan with his hosts and all men outside Christ will be separated from the presence of God to endure eternal punishment while the redeemed will be in the presence of God for eternity:

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first; Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air... (I Thessalonians 4:13-17)

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (Revelation 20:12)

my understanding is that those Jew's that went back into legalism were saved and lost out with no more sacrifice as Hebrews says (so we disagree)does no good to argue

the bottom line in this discussion is multitudes are going to hell on the assumption they are sealed with the Holy Spirit with no evidence of a changed life ....just on the false teaching of easy believism

I agree with that.

And I agree that not everyone who says he is a Christian actually believes in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. If someone is not indwelt by the Holy Spirit, then he does not belong to Christ.

If he does belong to Christ, there will be fruit. Where there is life, there is fruit. It may not be a lot, it may not be great, it may be a humble and quiet service for our Lord, but it will be there.

The Holy Spirit, Our Seal

Ephesians 1 (ESV)
11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit , 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance.

Before an animal could be declared fit for sacrifice or for food, he had to be examined . This was required to receive the seal of approval. If, for example, the animal was to be offered for a sacrifice, he was examined and approved by the priest. If he was without blemish and qualified for sacrifice, a seal was placed on him to signify his acceptance .

Jesus offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice. This is why He is called the LAMB OF GOD. John 1:29, "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the LAMB OF GOD, Which taketh away the sins of the world." These were the words of John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ, who introduced Him first as God's sacrifice. There are many passages which point to Jesus as the LAMB OF GOD. Revelation 7:14, "And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the LAMB." Revelation 13:8, "And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the LAMB slain form the foundation of the world." Revelation 19:7, "Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to Him; for the marriage of the LAMB is come, and His wife hath made herself ready." Revelation 21:9, 14, 27, "And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the LAMB's wife. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of he LAMB. And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the LAMB's book of life."

Since Jesus was the Lamb of God , meaning that He was the complete, perfect sacrifice, He too must be examined and approved by God the Father . When man sinned, he was separated from God. God wanted that fellowship restored, but He could not do so unless His justice was satisfied. God's mercy said that He wanted to forgive man, but God's justice said that man could not be forgiven unless a suitable sacrifice was found. Christ offered Himself as that sacrifice, which means that the sacrifice of Christ as the as the Lamb of God was the only way that God could be merciful and just. It was the only way that God, within His righteousness, holiness and justice could receive man back to Himself. Since God wanted man's fellowship more than man wants God's fellowship, then Christ first died FOR GOD. It is often said that Christ died for us, but the main thing was that Christ died FOR GOD in order that God could accept us back, for Christ and Christ alone satisfied the righteous and holy demands of God!

God approved His Son for sacrifice. That approval must be followed by a seal. That seal was the Holy Spirit . John 6:27, "Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for Him hath God the Father sealed."

God announced His approval in Matthew 3:17, "And lo a voice from Heaven, saying, This is My Beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased." It is interesting that at the same time that God announced His approval, the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus. Matthew 3:16, "And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him." This simply fulfills the type that the sacrifice must be examined, approved and sealed. God accepted Christ as the perfect sacrifice. He declared His approval when He said, "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased." At the same time the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus in the form of a dove sealing Him as the only acceptable sacrifice for the sins of man.

We shall see that there is another sacrifice that has been approved by God and sealed by the Holy Spirit. When a person comes to Christ, he is accepted by the Father in Christ. His faith is counted for righteousness. Romans 4:5, "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justified the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." God then sees the believer clothed in the righteousness of Christ , declares him blameless, without blemish. This is the doctrine of justification. God declared the believer as righteous as Jesus Christ, for He sees him clothed in Christ's righteousness , and his standing before God is just as if he had never sinned. This does not mean that the believer lives a life above sin; it means that he stands before God blameless because he has had the righteousness of Christ imputed to him in response to his faith in the finished work of Calvary.

This makes the believer fit for sacrifice, for he has been accepted. The believer's sacrifice, however, is not that of offering himself to die as did his Saviour, but rather offering himself to live for his Saviour! This is called a LIVING SACRIFICE. Romans 12:1, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." No one is fit to become this sacrifice until he has first become inspected and examined. This examination is done after the believer has put on Christ and is wearing His imputed righteousness. He immediately receives the seal, which is the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:13, "In Whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in Whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise." II Corinthians 1:21, "Now He which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God." Now that the believer has been examined and declared righteous, he is fit for sacrifice, and God will accept his living sacrifice as holy and acceptable by God. The Holy Spirit is this seal, and as such, is called the earnest of our salvation. Ephesians 1:14, "Which is the earnest of our inheritance unto the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory." This word "earnest" means that the Holy Spirit seals us and becomes the downpayment for our salvation . When a downpayment is made, it is forfeited if the payment is not made in full, so when God allowed the Holy Spirit to seal us and become the earnest (downpayment) for our salvation, He was risking the unity of the Godhead on the security that the believer has in Christ. If one justified person could lose his salvation, then the Godhead would lose His unity.

This seal of the Holy Spirit is for eternity . Though that seal is unseen by man, the seal (the Holy Spirit) is seen in the light of eternity, and we are declared as His! The seal of eternal divine ownership shall be worn by the believer for eternity ! Hallelujah!

(Pastor Jack Hyles Meet The Holy Spirit )

This means the Holy Spirit does not seal anyone until he has been approved, meaning until the Lord knows the person has faith and has repented from unbelief and a life of sin.

my understanding is that those Jew's that went back into legalism were saved and lost out with no more sacrifice as Hebrews says (so we disagree)does no good to argue

I don't think they 'went back' to legalism. They just never stopped doing what they had been doing before.

HEBREWS WAS WRITTEN TO HEBREWS TO TEACH THEM HOW TO STOP BEING HEBREWS

Heb 10:26 (NAS)
If we go on sinning willfully after receving the knowledge of the truth [of the gospel of salvation through faith alone in the once for all time sacrifice of Christ for sins], there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins.

HAVING TRUSTED ALONE IN CHRIST ALONE AS SAVIOR, NO MORE SACRIFICE FOR SINS IS REQUIRED, SO CONTINUING TO PERFORM SACRIFICES UNDER THE MOSAIC LAW AMOUNTS TO INSULTING GOD WITH WILLFULL SIN BY DENYING CHRIST'S ALL SUFFICIENT SACRIFICE

"If we go on sinning willfully" = The context of chapter 10 establishes that this phrase has a very specific connotation of sinning: that of Jewish believers continuing to follow the sacrificial system of the Mosaic Law in order to be saved when they had already accepted by faith the once for all time, never to be repeated, sacrifice of their Messiah Jesus Christ for their sins. This is especially confirmed by the last phrase of this verse: "no more sacrifice for sins is left."

Once a person has expressed his faith alone in Christ alone as Savior he is now subject to a new law: the law of the Spirit of Life which is administered by God the Holy Spirit indwelling in him . This new law he can obey and walk in the Spirit by faith; or not obey and walk in carnality by the world and be under God's discipline . Either way he walks, this new law of the Spirit of life that he is under has permanently and eternally set him free from the law of sin and death. He is eternally secure from condemnation under the law of sin and death because he has trusted alone in Christ alone.

That is NOT a license to sin.

Exactly. Legalism is still a problem in some of today's churches.

The major theme of Hebrews is “God has spoken—how are you responding to His Word?” When the nation of Israel refused to believe and obey His Word, God chastened them.

Paul used this fact to warn the Corinthians against presumptuous sins (1 Cor. 10:1-12). Note that the examples given in this passage involve people who died because of their willful sins. When we study the subject of “chastening” in Hebrews 12, we will get greater insight into this awesome aspect of God’s dealings with His children.

In stating that this exhortation applies to believers today, but that it does not involve loss of salvation, I am not suggesting that chastening is unimportant.

On the contrary, it is important that every Christian obey God and please the Father in all things. Dr. William Culbertson, late president of the Moody Bible Institute, used to warn us about “the sad consequences of forgiven sins.”

God forgave David’s sins, but David suffered the sad consequences for years afterward (2 Sam. 12:7-15). David had “despised the commandment of the Lord” (2 Sam. 12:9) and God dealt with him.

What should a believer do who has drifted away into spiritual doubt and dullness and is deliberately despising God’s Word? He should turn to God for mercy and forgiveness. There is no other sacrifice for sin, but the sacrifice Christ made is sufficient for all our sins.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the Lord’s hands for chastening, but it is a wonderful thing to fall into His hands for cleansing and restoration. David said, “Let me fall now into the hand of the Lord; for very great are His mercies” (1 Chron. 21:13).

I am most surprised that you give such attention to Gods name in your post but are quite vague as to the light source you claim to walk in..

While conducting my service in the hole, (the boiler room), in the Navy. All we had was red lighting or battle lanterns most of the time.

It was so that our vessels presence would be kept secreat from the enemy.

Yet we worked as a team

Light = Truth

to be completely clear...

Light = Truth = Yahshua

Yahshua is the light and the truth, He is the source and supply...

I am secure walking in Yahshua....

The difference between legalism and obedience:

Legalism does good works and obeys the commandments to earn salvation.

Obedience does good works and obeys the commandments as a response to salvation.

heb6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

1 cor 5:
5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Judah sin with tamar, lots daughters got him drunk for reproductive reasons. Paul did this for a reason to make known that this type of conduct, was not acceptable. for him to let it go was to say sure why not. From what i understand the man repented and was released.

1 cor 3 :15

14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

i give my sheep eternal life and they will never parish. my people are destroyed because they lack knowledge.
