Life Application Bible Commentary: Luke
Luke’s Sermon on the Plain (6:17-49) is similar to Matthew’s Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7). It has been widely debated whether the two are the same sermon or different ones. It is very likely that Jesus taught the same truths twice, if not more. Luke’s account does not cover as much material as Matthew’s does, either because Luke’s sources lacked it or because it had Jewish legalistic characteristics that Luke thought were not necessary to include for his Gentile audience.
