The Biblical model (as seen in our current readings) is for true ownership of land without governmental control. In regards to taxes, I heard one of the presidential candidates state: "One thing for sure, our founding fathers never intended Americans to be taxed over 50% of their income!" Amen.

I have noticed in our readings that the land always goes back to the owners after a period of time (Year of Jubilee). God gave the Israelites the land and outlined specifically the borders (which settles the Palestinian question). They were the true owners, unlike here in the U.S. where we actually only lease our land from the government. If you think you own it, just try not paying land taxes and see how long you keep it!
