Sacramento except that the beloved disciple was called son by Jesus and Mary was called his mother and he took her to his own home - to the strict Jews this would have been totally unacceptable and a scandal - wincam

Why was he specially loved by Jesus? Good question.

Who:--If he is the Apostle John, he was called a son of thunder. He wanted to be placed above the other apostles. He wanted to call down fire from heaven on a town that was being rude. He was a fisherman, partner with Peter and James. He sure seems normal to me.

Why:--A good man obtains favor from the LORD, but a man of evil devices he condemns. Daniel was called greatly beloved by the angel for his good, beautiful character. Likely John was called by Jesus beloved in the same way the angel described Daniel. Likely for the same reason.

The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved (not really the Beloved Disciple)

Joh 13:23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
Joh 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
Joh 20:2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
Joh 21:7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
Joh 21:20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?

Clue: He leaned on Jesus breast at the supper
Clue: He ran to the tomb with Peter
Clue: And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
Clue: In the gospel of John neither James or his brother John are ever referred to by name.
Clue: In the other 3 gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke both James and his brother John were mentioned together numbers of times.
Clue: There were no references to the name John in the three epistles of John

Likely: John referred to himself some other way than name to avoid confusion with the Baptist in his own gospel.
Likely: Whatever the name of the disciple who Jesus loved, he was either Peter, James, or John.
Likely: The disciple who Jesus loved was not Peter because he was named at the supper.
Likely: James's name does not get confused with the name of John the Baptist but John's does.
Likely: Because of the name confusion, because of his closeness to Jesus, the disciple Jesus loved was John.

So, it's not obvious, but it seem reasonable to say that the Apostle John is the disciple who Jesus loved. (not Beloved Disciple beccause he is not mentioned in the Bible)
