Fri Jun 28,2002 -- The 1st permanent global war crimes court starts work on Monday, decades after World War II prompted calls for a tribunal to try heinous crimes. But the global court faces stiff opposition from the United States, Russia and China. The Dutch-based International Criminal Court will have the power to tackle genocide, crimes against humanity (that one could entail many things, 'tolerance' issues, etc.), and war crimes as of July 1, 2002. "We hope it will deter future war criminals, and bring nearer the day when no ruler, no state, no junta and no army anywhere will be able to abuse human rights with impunity," UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said.
The 1st global court's supporters say Washington is trying to cripple the tribunal before it starts. The international court has already been ratified by 69 other countries. The United States says the court would infringe on national sovereignty and could lead to politically motivated prosecutions of its officials or soldiers working outside U.S. borders.

Benjamin Ferencz, a Nuremberg prosecutor, said on a visit to The Hague. "There must be a recognition that we are all members of 1 human family. We have to create new institutions. This is 1 of them. This is another step forward in humanity's slow march toward (global)civilisation." Anyone and everyone -- from a head of state to an ordinary citizen of the nations -- will be liable to ICC prosecution for human rights violations, including systematic murder, torture, rape and sexual slavery, etc.

Some of of ICC staff will begin working without much fanfare at the court's headquarters in a 16-storey office block in The Hague on Monday. They will pave the way for the arrival of 18 judges and a chief prosecutor as soon as early 2003. At this time, the ICC is not expected to start investigating cases before the end of next year. The ICC will not supersede national courts and will intercede only when those courts are unable to investigate or prosecute serious crimes. They also say they will not prosecute crimes committed before they began. The Security Council also has the power to suspend an ICC investigation or prosecution if it believes it could obstruct its efforts to maintain international peace and security. The U.S., Russia and China are 3 of the 5 permanent members of the 15-seat Security Council.

While the impetus for creating the ICC came after the 1992-1995 Bosnian war and the 1994 genocide in Rwanda spawned two U.N. war crimes tribunals with localized scope, the idea for a global criminal court came to the fore in the late 1940s. (during the time God brought Israel back as a nation again..1948, fulfilling main Bible prophecy)

The Hague -- which likes to call itself the legal capital of the world -- is already home to the U.N.'s war crimes tribunal for former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which only tackles legal disputes between countries. So, now it will also house the 1st international court as well. Many countries throughout the world have thrown their weight of support behind ICC. But other states have expressed strong reservations about the ICC, and decided not to lend their support. Although 120 countries voted in favor of the Rome Treaty, only 69 have ratified the accord. The big 3 -- the United States, Russia and China -- have not backed the court, all fiercely guarding their sovereignty. Other countries which have not backed the court include India, Pakistan and Turkey. Israel signed the accord but has not ratified it. Jordan is the only Middle East country to do so.

The United States has spurned the ICC under President Bush, although his predecessor Bill Clinton did sign the treaty. President Bush refuses to ratify it for the United States. (Amen!!) Washington has threatened not to take part in any U.N. peacekeeping operations if the Security Council did not grant its forces immunity from arrest or prosecution by the global court. The move has awkwardly put Washington at odds with key European allies. Human Rights Watch spokesman Richard Dicker said, "It would be better for the ICC if the U.S. was supportive. The lack of U.S. involvement and support does not in any way threaten the court. The support is wide enough and deep enough to make the ICC viable and credible."

Editor's Note: Boy, you could see a global leader like the Antichrist getting control of this and easily abusing that power. It's also very interesting to note that it's widely known that all in that decade of Israel's miraculous rebirth prophesied in Scripture, that the 1st meetings began for the future one world religion (united religions), then other meetings for uniting the nations' governments, as well as other meetings for bringing about a global court, and more.

So many Biblically prophetic and very key events all began during that KEY time period...a great big kickoff of Bible prophecy with Israel's rebirth. And since that time they've just in last couple years had "historical, record gatherings" within months of each other...most all the leaders of the religions of the world, and a separate "historical, record gathering" of the nations' governmental leaders of the world. Both massive gatherings that made many headlines, claimed they were gathering to work together to bring peace and safety to the world. Soon enough, the antichrist and the false prophet will be on center stage.

God's Word is always 100% accurate, and things are speeding ahead at warp speed these days. Scripture also shows that we don't need to be afraid, but that we're to always be watching the signs of the times,a nd tthat we'd KNOW we were in the generation, and know we were in the season of His return. No other generation could have had this, because Israel had to be back as a nation again and Jerusalem back in their hands. We're also the only generation to ever have all the technology needed for Revelations to be fulfilled where Scripture says the whole world will SEE what's going on. The exciting part, is that Scripture says we are to encourage each other in this, that when we SEE all these things BEGIN to come to pass, to look up, because our redemption draws near. \0/ Keep looking UP, Jesus is coming soon.
