Arizona
Number of Fires: 2

Walker (Coronado National Forest): 16,369 acres at 85 percent contained. The fire is in Walker Canyon northwest of Nogales. U.S. crews successfully suppressed a 20 acre slop over on the northwest perimeter and are patrolling, mopping up and rehabilitating fireline on the north and east flanks Aerial resources are supporting suppression efforts on both sides of the border. Numerous residences remain threatened.
West Dome (Arizona State Land Department): 930 acres at 90 percent contained. Isolated interior flare-ups were observed. Crews are patrolling and mopping up.


California

Bluecut (San Bernardino National Forest): 5,500 acres at 10 percent contained. This fire is one mile north of the Interstate 15 and Interstate 215 junction near the community of Oak Hills. The fire made a major run to the north and northeast, crossing Interstate 15. Approximately 500 structures, power lines and liquid fuel pipelines are threatened. The communities of Summit Estates, Oakhills and Baldy Mesa have been evacuated. Two California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection engines were burned over. Three crew members sustained injuries and are in stable condition at a local hospital. Interstate 15 is closed.
Borel (Sequoia National Forest): 3,430 acres at 90 percent contained. This fire is burning one mile northwest of Bodfish. A Unified Command between a Type 2 Incident Management Team and Kern County Fire Department is in place. Reduction in acreage is due to better mapping.
Sudden Ranch (Vandenburg Air Force Base): 7,161 acres at 25 percent contained. This fire is burning six miles west of Lompoc. A Unified Command between a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Type 1 Incident Command Team. The fire burned very actively on the north and west flanks. Dozers are constructing indirect attack fireline on the east and northwest perimeters. Several ranches, two military facilities, a flight tracking station and Jalama County Beach day use area are threatened.

Colorado
Number of Fires: 4

Coal Seam (Grand Junction Dispatch Area Counties): 12,105 acres at 70 percent contained. This fire is four miles west of Glenwood Springs. Isolated torching was observed on the northeast perimeter. A confinement strategy will be used the northern portion of the fire. Crews have spiked out and are constructing handline on the east and west flanks.

Hayman (Pike-San Isabel National Forest): 103,000 acres at 47 percent contained. Fire is six miles northwest of Lake George. The fire crossed Trail Creek Road in the east and is spreading further into the Lost Creek Wilderness Area in the west. A mandatory evacuation is in place for 3,000 residents. The communities of painted Rock, Quinlan Gulch and Ridgewood in Teller County were evacuated yesterday. Evacuation centers are open in Park, Douglas, Teller and Jefferson Counties. Sheriff departments for the four counties are conducting an inventory of lost structures. Highway 67 remains closed.

Miracle Complex (BLM Grand Junction District): 3,951 acres at 98 percent contained. This complex consisting of the Long Canyon and Dierich and is near Grand Junction. Smoldering and torching were observed. Crews are patrolling and mopping up.

Missionary Ridge (San Juan National Forest): 37,200 acres at 25 percent contained. Fire is 15 miles northeast of Durango. Extreme fire behavior, short crown runs, torching and long range spotting were observed as the fire crossed containment lines and the Los Pinos River. Several subdivisions south of Lemon and Vallecito Reservoirs remain evacuated. Additional evacuations occurred yesterday on the southwest portion of the fire in Lake Vista Estates, Forest Lakes and Cool Water subdivisions. An evacuation center is open in Bayfield. Structure protection is in place for the 17 subdivisions that are threatened. Nine residences and four outbuilding were lost.

Eglin Complex (Eglin Air Force Base): 3,100 acres at 90 percent contained. This complex, consisting of the Grassy Point, Roberts Point and Range Road 747 fires, is near Fort Walton Beach. The fires are in monitor status.


Georgia

Blackjack Bay Complex (Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge): 123,239 acres at 6 percent contained. This complex consists of three fires 10 miles northeast of Fargo and is being managed to benefit resources, which continues to be monitored. A Unified Command between the interagency Fire Use Management Team, the Georgia Forestry Commission and the Florida Davison of Forestry is in place. A ten mile preexisting permanent fuel break that surrounds the Refuge is successfully holding the fire. Receding water levels in the swamp have increased fire behavior and the potential for reburn.


Nevada

Cannon (Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest): 15,000 acres at 10 percent contained. This fire is 25 miles northwest of Bridegeport in a Marine Winter Warfare Training Area. The fire is moving east-northeast and has crossed Highway 395 and the Walker River. Extreme fire behavior, long range spotting and numerous fire whirls were observed. Gusty, erratic winds, low relative humidity, steep terrain, limited access and unexploded ordnance in the Marine Winter Warfare Training Area are impeding containment efforts. Residents in Walker have been allowed to return to their homes. The community of Camp Antelope and numerous residences east of Highway 395 have been evacuated. Evacuation centers are open in Colville and Topaz. Highway 395 is closed. An air tanker went down about 2:50 pm. in Walker, CA. while working the fire. All three crew members were killed. A water tender responding to the air tanker crash was involved in a rollover accident. The driver was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.


New Mexico

NEW BMG (Santa Fe National Forest): 350 acres at 0 percent contained. This fire is seven miles east of Llaves. Three ranches and many gas and oil wells are threatened. Structure protection is in place for a ranch that was evacuated.
Garfield (NM State Forestry, Socorro District): 50 acres at 90 percent contained. This fire is burning 24 miles south of Truth or Consequences. Crews are mopping up. Reduction in acreage is due to better mapping. This will be the last report unless significant activity occurs.
Roybal/Trampas (Santa Fe National Forest): 2,700 acres at 0 percent contained. The Roybal fire is four miles northeast of Pecos and the Trampas fire is in the Pecos Wilderness Area eight miles west of Rociada. Structure protection is in place for improvements in Denton Canyon.

South Carolina

NEW Legends (South Carolina Forestry Commission): 1,658 acres at 80 percent contained. This fire is burning ten miles south of Conway. Difficult terrain is hampering containment efforts. Several residences and commercial properties are threatened.


Utah

Sanford (Dixie National Forest): 60,000 acres at 30 percent contained. The fire is 20 miles northeast of Panguitch. A Fire Use Management Team* is managing the fire. Priorities are firefighter and public safety economics of suppression and ecosystem health. Crowning and torching were observed in Deer Creek. Crews are constructing handline on north flank with aerial support. Structure protection is in place for Sanford Ranch. Increase acreage is due to better mapping.

Virginia

Marbleyard Complex (George Washington and Jefferson National Forests): 2,991 acres at 80 percent contained. This complex of several fires is burning three miles south of Glasgow. The fire has moved into the Sawmill Hollow drainage in the James River Face Wilderness Area. The Appalachian Trail is closed.


Wyoming
Number of Fires: 1

Hensel (Medicine Bow National Forests): 2,415 acres at 24 percent contained. This fire is burning 20 miles northwest of Wheatland. Extreme fire behavior, long range spotting and isolated torching were observed as the fire moved east up Black Mountain and Laramie Peak. High winds suspended air tanker operations. Several ranches, Harris Park and a Boy Scout camp are threatened.
