Two earthquakes, 4.4 and 5.0, upper Midwest in the last hour. Hope they're not foreshocks of something big, like New Madrid! http://earthquake.usgs.gov/

The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred IN THE SANTA CRUZ ISLANDS about 210 miles (340 km) NNW of Santo, Vanuatu or about 1340 miles (2160 km) northeast of Brisbane, Australia at 3:26 PM MDT today, Jun 17, 2002 (Jun 18 at 8:26 AM local time in Santa Cruz Islands). A PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE OF 6.7 WAS COMPUTED FOR THIS EARTHQUAKE. The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. There have been no reports of damage at this early time.
6.2 Quake in Costa Rica...and others...

A strong quake of magnitude 6.2 struck COSTA RICA. The epicenter of the quake was about 90 miles (140 km) S of SAN JOSE, Costa Rica. A magnitude 5.9 quake hit the FIJI ISLANDS REGION. That quake was centered about 190 miles (305 km) E of SUVA, Fiji. A magnitude 5.5 quake hit the SOUTHERN SUMATRA, INDONESIA area about 100 miles (155 km) WSW of Jambi, Sumatra, Indonesia. There was also a 5.9 magnitude earthquake in the region of MINAHASSA PENINSULA, SULAWESI. That one was centered 30 miles (45 km) S of Palu, Sulawesi, Indonesia.
