Yes I do believe in eternal security but the problem is when the OSAS crowd convencies people that are not born-again that they are saved because they said a sinners prayer or was baptized when reality the person has never come to know Jesus Christ. In turn they are sending mulitudes to hell. So I would be careful trying to convence someone, especially people who are not living like they are saved that they are saved.

Yeshua chose 12 apostles and Judas was among them Luke 6:13

Judas had free will which he exercised, he was a traitor.

He was greedy. Peter referred to Judas as "for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry" Acts 1:17

Peter also says it was Judas transgression by which he fell "to take part in this ministry from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place."

In the OT, the Hebrew word most often translated as "transgression" means revolt or rebellion.

In the NT every occurrence of the word transgression is a translation of the Greek word that means a "deliberate breach of the law".

It was a deliberate act on Judas's part to betray Yeshua. It was a choice he made.

Hebrewa 6:4-6 is a warning. "For it is impossible for those who have Tasted the heavenly gift(Yeshua), AND have become Partakers of the Holy Spirit, And have tasted the Good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
IF they FALL AWAY, to renew them AGAIN to repentance ect.......


The language of vv 4-6 clearly describes those who have experienced the Saving Grace of God, and the language of v 6 denotes complete Disowning of Christ, a Deliberate and Decisive Abandonment of the Christian faith.

From Nelsons Bible Dictionary:

" Apostacy is defined as the Determined, Willful rejection of Christ and His teachings by a CHRISTIAN BELIEVER (Heb 10:26-29) John 15:22. This is different from False belief, or error, which is the result of ignorance."

Judas is a good example of this. Yeshua said "it would have been better if he had not been born"

Yeshua says "Every Branch IN ME that does not bear fruit He (The Father) Takes away".

The immediate reference was probably to Judas, but the idea applies to ALL pseudo-believers.

The words spoken by Christ as a prayer, PRIOR to Judas betrayal and His arrest, in the garden:

John 17:

This does not imply that Christ was not in the world now, for he was; but signifies that he was just going out of it; and that his continuance in it was very short: nor that he was, and would be no longer with his disciples; for this is to be understood of his bodily, not of his spiritual presence; in which respect Christ is with his people whilst they are on earth, and they are with him when he is in heaven:

I agree. Every sinner can repent, but not all do.

I've wondered about Judas. We know he felt bad enough to return the 30 pieces of silver, and admit his sin. He could have just taken his fortune and walked away, but he didn't.

Matthew 27
3 When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. 4"I have sinned," he said, "for I have betrayed innocent blood."

He would have to bring an animal sacrifice to the priests for his sin, but these were the priests. And he was the one who betrayed Jesus to death, so how could he ask forgiveness from Him? He couldn't ask the Roman soldiers to stop the crucifixion long enough for him to ask Jesus to forgive him. No, Judas had painted himself into a corner.

Peter loved Jesus. Really loved Him. His grief was turned into great joy after Satan sifted him, just as Jesus said.

Judas could have still repented even after Satan had entered him...Judas had not committed the sin of blasphemy.....

Judas's sin was no worse than Peter's sin....

Judas was chosen to fulfill prophecy

John 6

Yes, Salvation is a gift, no works merit for it. But that said, it is those who endure until the end. There are in some instances those who draw back, give up, turn away, just as Judas did.

Judas was numbered among the 12 disciples, chosen by Yeshua.

Being good enough being free from bad habits and bad behavior, earning enough "points" on the ledger of good behavior is not what brings about a new spiritual birth in a person. Salvation is solely a matter of believing in Jesus. The repentance and change of behavior come later as the Holy Spirit prompts it, and also as Holy Spirit helps a person to accomplish it! It is vitally important for you at this point to come to this understanding: Nothing you do apart from believing in Jesus Christ causes you to be saved. When you believe, the Spirit enters into you and causes your old sin nature to be transformed into a new nature that is in the likeness of God. The transformation of your spirit is a sovereign work of God; you cannot do it on your own, achieve it through your will or behavior, force it to happen by any other means than believing.

If you believe that your salvation came about by anything other than simply believing in what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross, then you believe that your salvation was in some way related to your own will and to your own works. If you believe that your salvation is related to your will and your works, then you will believe that your will and your works can in some way "undo" or negate your salvation.

On the other hand, if you believe that your salvation was based solely on what Jesus did for you and what the Holy Spirit has done in you, then you believe that your salvation was a sovereign work of God. Your part was simply to believe and receive what God provided and what God promised. The person who believes this must therefore conclude that since he did absolutely nothing to transform his old sin nature into a new spiritual nature, he cannot do anything to cause his new spiritual nature to revert to his old nature.

"Two" things more are here attributed to God; "first", the sealing of his people. It was after the resurrection when Yeshua appeared to the disciples, as described in John 20.

Judas had already hanged himself.

Matt. 27:
1: When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
2: And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
3: Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4: Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
5: And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

Judas was dead before Yeshua went to the Cross.

So if you are not living your life to please Jesus you are not saved. Period.... Regardless if you say you are. There are no easy believism, say a prayer or hold up your hand that will save a person. If they don't repent of their sin, come to know and follow Jesus they are lost!

So the question that always comes up with the OSAS is are they really saved. The answer is no if they don't fit in to the 1 John 2:3-6 statement.

I know that many people want to believe that their family members or friends are saved because they were baptized, raised their hand or said a prayer. But that don't mean a thing if they are not living for the Lord. They are lose and hell bound, and yes one should worry and get to witnessing to them and stop trying to prove they are saved when in reality they are still on the fast road to hell.

The fact is it is hard to be a Christian!!! But very, very worth it as one day we shall see the King of Kings!

This question is true for every Christian, not just those who believe in OSAS. A professing Christian can do all the right things, because his friends and family expect him to, yet not believe in Jesus Christ in his heart.

I know that many people want to believe that their family members or friends are saved because they were baptized, raised their hand or said a prayer. But that don't mean a thing if they are not living for the Lord. They are lose and hell bound, and yes one should worry and get to witnessing to them and stop trying to prove they are saved when in reality they are still on the fast road to hell.

The fact is it is hard to be a Christian!!! But very, very worth it as one day we shall see the King of Kings! [Cross]

Jesus came to them and reassured them (the disciples); but He also enabled them through the Holy Spirit. John 20:22 reminds us of Genesis 2:7 when God breathed life into the first man. In both Hebrew and Greek, the word for “breath” also means “spirit.” The breath of God in the first creation meant physical life, and the breath of Jesus Christ in the new creation meant spiritual life. The believers would receive the filling of the Spirit at Pentecost and be empowered for ministry (Acts 1:4-5; 2:1-4). Apart from the filling of the Spirit, they could not go forth to witness effectively. The Spirit had dwelt with them in the person of Christ, but now the Spirit would be in them (John 14:17).

The Holy Spirit was giving witness to the six Jews who were present that these Gentiles were truly born again. After all, these men had not seen the vision with Peter and come to understand that the Gentiles were now on an equal footing with the Jews. This does not suggest that every new believer gives evidence of salvation by speaking in tongues, though every true believer will certainly use his or her tongue to glorify God (Rom. 10:9-10). This was an event parallel to Pentecost: the same Spirit who had come on the Jewish believers had now come on the Gentiles (Acts 11:15-17; 15:7-9). No wonder the men were astonished!

With this event, the period of transition in the early history of the church comes to an end. Believers among the Jews, Samaritans, and Gentiles have all received the Spirit of God and are united in the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13; Gal. 3:27).

These Gentiles were not saved by being baptized; they were baptized because they gave evidence of being saved. To use Acts 2:38 to teach salvation by baptism, or Acts 8:14-16 to teach salvation by the laying on of hands, is to ignore the transitional character of God’s program. Sinners have always been saved by faith; that is one principle God has never changed. But God does change His methods of operation, and this is clearly seen in Acts 1-10. The experience of Cornelius and his household makes it very clear that baptism is not essential for salvation.

From now on, the order will be: hear the Word, believe on Christ and receive the Spirit, and then be baptized and unite with other believers in the church to serve and worship God.

A great deal of controversy and misunderstanding throughout church history has come into existence concerning the ministry of the Holy Spirit. For example, what is the difference between the indwelling and the filling of the Holy Spirit? To aid in understanding this vital distinction, consider the following illustration.

A guest is invited into a home. But upon entering that home he is immediately confined to a small room somewhere near the front door. For awhile, he may even be forgotten by his host. Finally, however, the owner of the house is convicted concerning his shabby treatment of the house guest. He thereupon gives his guest free access to every room in the house.

In this illustration the Holy Spirit is, of course, the invited guest. The host is the believing sinner, and the house stands for his life. The difference then between the in-dwelling and the filling is the difference between being confined in a small room somewhere and being given free access to all the rooms.

The filling, therefore, does not mean the believer gets more of the Holy Spirit, but rather the Holy Spirit gets more of the believer .

At this point in their training the disciples had not yet received the Holy Spirit. (That happens later at Pentecost). They were still thinking in worldly terms as natural men. I don’t think it’s correct to apply these verses to Christians who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christians are a new creation, and the Lord chastises those He loves.

There are still fiery darts and temptations.

Ephesians 6:10-12

10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

In Matthew we saw the transfiguration announced in terms that related to the subject of that Gospel -- the rejected Christ taking His glorious position as Son of man. But this is spiritual privilege, not public display -- our veil as to that, our body, is not rent; but Christ's, as the title of entrance, is.*

A new order of things established in resurrection

But this position of glory could not be taken by the Lord, nor the glorious reign be established, excepting in a new order of things. Christ must rise from the dead to establish it. It did not accord with His presentation as Messiah, as He then was. Therefore He commands His disciples not to make it known till after His resurrection. It would then be a powerful confirmation of the doctrine of the kingdom in glory. This manifestation of the glory confirmed the faith of the disciples at that time (as Gethsemane taught them the reality of His sufferings, and of His conflicts with the prince of darkness); and would afterwards form a subject of their testimony, and its confirmation, when Christ should have taken His new position. We may see the character of this manifestation, and its relation to the earthly kingdom of glory of which the prophets had spoken, in 2 Peter 1: 19. Read there, "We have the word of prophecy confirmed."

The Son of man as the resurrection and the life

The disciples had stopped at the threshold. In fact, although their eyes were opened, they saw "men as trees walking." What, they questioned between themselves, could this "rising from among the dead" mean? Resurrection was known to them; all the sect of the Pharisees believed in it. But this power which delivered from the condition in which man and even the saints were found, implying too that others were still left in it when that power was exercised, of this they were totally ignorant. That there was a resurrection in which God would raise up all the dead at the last day, they had no doubt. But that the Son of man was the resurrection and the life -- the absolute triumph over death of the last Adam, the Son of God having life in Himself, manifested by His resurrection from among the dead (a deliverance that shall be accomplished in the saints also in due time), of this they understood nothing. Doubtless they received the Lord's words as true, as having authority; but His meaning was incomprehensible to them.

The difficulties of unbelief

Now unbelief never fails to find out difficulties that justify it in its own eyes which refuse to perceive the divine proofs of the truth -- difficulties great enough in appearance, and which may trouble the minds of those who, through grace, are inclined to believe, or who have believed, but are still weak in the faith. The prophets had said that Elias must first come. The scribes insisted on this. Struck with the glory that undeniably confirmed the pretensions of Christ, the disciples speak to Him of this difficulty. The conviction which the sight of the glory brought to their mind, made them confess the difficulty with regard to which they had previously been silent, not daring to bring it forward. But now the proof is strong enough to embolden them to face the difficulty.

Sufferings before glory

In fact, the word spoke of it, and Jesus accepts it as the truth; Elias was to come and restore all things. And he shall indeed come before the manifestation of the glory of the Son of man; but first of all the Son of man must suffer and be rejected. This also was written, as well as the mission of Elias. Moreover, before this manifestation of Christ, which tested the Jews as to their responsibility, God had not failed to supply them with a testimony according to the spirit and power of Elias; and they had ill-treated him as they listed. It was written that the Son of man should suffer before His glory, as truly as that Elias should come. However, as we have said, in point of testimony to the Jews, he who took morally the place of Elias had come. They had treated him as they were going to treat the Lord. Thus also John had said that he was not Elias, and he quotes Isaiah 40, which speaks of the testimony; but he never quotes Malachi 4, which relates to Elias personally. The Lord (Matt. 11: 10) applies Malachi 3: 1; but John, Isaiah.

Great need, weak and wavering faith, almighty power to heal

Come down from the mountain, the people rush towards Him, astonished apparently at this mysterious absence from His disciples, and salute Him with the reverence with which His whole life had inspired them. But that which had taken place in His absence only confirmed the solemn truth that He must depart, which had just been demonstrated by a more glorious testimony. The remnant even, they who believed, knew not how to profit by the power which was now on earth. The faith of those even who believed did not realise the presence of the Messiah -- the power of Jehovah, the Healer of Israel: wherefore then still remain among the people and the disciples? The poor father expresses his affliction in a touching manner, in words that show a heart brought by the sense of its need to a right condition, but very weak in faith. The miserable state of his child is related, and his heart presents a true picture of the condition of the remnant -- faith that required support on account of the unbelief under which it was buried. Israel was in no better condition than the poor child. But power was present, capable of all things. That was not the difficulty. Is there faith to profit by it? was the question. "If thou canst," said the afflicted father to Jesus. "If thou canst (replied the Lord) applies to thy faith; "if thou canst believe, all things are possible." The poor father, true of heart, confesses his own state with grief, and seeks, in the goodness of Christ, help for his failure. Thus the position of Israel was plainly shown forth. Almighty power was present to heal them to deliver them from the power of Satan. It was to be done through faith, for the soul was to return to God. And there was faith in those who, touched by the testimony of His power, and moved by the grace of God, sought in Jesus the remedy for their woes and the foundation for their hopes. Their faith was weak and wavering; but wherever it existed, Jesus acted with the sovereign power of His own grace, and of the goodness of God that finds its measure in itself. However far unbelief may have gone in those who should profit by the grace of a dispensation, wherever there is a need to meet, Jesus answers to it when He is looked to. And this is a great mercy and encouragement for us. Nevertheless, for this power to be exercised by man himself (to which God called him), it was needful that he should draw very near to God -- that he to whom it was committed should accustom himself to communion with God, by withdrawing from all that connected him with the world and the flesh.

Unbelief brought to Jesus; the enemy cast out

Let us here recapitulate the principles of this narrative with respect to their general application. The Lord, who was going away, to be seen no more of the world until He came in glory, finds, on coming down from the mount of transfiguration, a case of the power of Satan over man, over the Jewish people. It had continued from almost the commencement of the child's existence. The faith that recognises the intervention of God in Christ, and takes shelter in it from present evil, is weak and wavering, pre-occupied with the evil, the sight of which conceals in great measure the power that masters and takes it away. Still the sense of need is deep enough to make it have recourse to that power. It is the unbelief which knows not how to count on the power that is present, which puts an end to the relations of Christ with man. It is not man's misery that does so -- it was this that brought Him down to earth. But the almighty power is present -- it only needs faith to profit by it. But if the heart, on account of the enemy's power, turns to Jesus, it can (thank God) bring its unbelief to Him as well as all the rest. There is love and power in Him for every kind of weakness. The people crowd around, attracted by the sight of the enemy's power. Can the Lord heal him? But can he allow the testimony of Satan's power to invade their hearts? This is the curiosity of men whose imagination is filled with the effect of the enemy's presence. But, whatever might be the unbelief of man, Christ was present, the testimony of a power that, in love to men, destroyed the effects of the power of the enemy. The people gather round -- Jesus sees it, and with a word casts out the enemy. He acts according to the necessity of His power, and the purposes of the love of God. Thus the effort of the enemy occasioned the intervention of Jesus, which the weakness of the father's faith tended to arrest. Nevertheless, if we lay all our infirmity, as well as our misery, before Christ, He answers according to the fulness of His power.

Intelligence in the ways of God hindered by the flesh

On the other hand, if the flesh meddles with the thoughts of faith, it hinders intelligence in the ways of God. While journeying, Christ explained His death and His new condition in resurrection. Why blame the lack of intelligence which hid all this from them, and filled their minds with ideas of earthly and Messianic glory? The secret of their want of intelligence lay here. He had told them plainly; but on the way they disputed among themselves which should have the first place in the kingdom. The thoughts of the flesh filled their heart, in regard to Jesus, with exactly the opposite of that which engaged the mind of God respecting Him. Infirmity, presented to Jesus, finds an answer in power and in sovereign grace; the flesh and its desires hide from us, even when thinking of Him, all the import of the thoughts of God. It was their own glory they were seeking in the kingdom; the cross -- the true path to glory -- was unintelligible to them.

The disciples instructed as to their Lord's rejection

After this the Lord resumes with His disciples the great subject before Him at this moment; and which was, in every way, that which now must be decided. He was to be rejected; and He separates Himself from the multitude, with His disciples, to instruct them on this point. Pre-occupied with His glory, with His rights as Messiah, they do not understand it Their faith even, such as it was, blinds them to all beyond that; because, while rightly attaching itself to the Person of Christ, it connected -- or rather, their own hearts, in which the faith existed, connected -- with Christ the accomplishment of that which their flesh desired and sought in Him for themselves. How subtle is the heart! This betrays itself in their dispute for pre-eminence. Their faith is too weak to bear elucidations that contradicted their ideas (v. 32). These ideas are manifested without disguise among themselves. Jesus reproves them, and gives them a little child for an example, as He had so often done before. He that would follow Christ must have a spirit quite opposite to that of the world -- a spirit belonging to that which was weak and despised by the pride of the world. In receiving such a one, they would receive Christ; in receiving Christ, they would receive the Father. It was eternal things that were in question, and the spirit of a man must then be the spirit of a child.

Instruction for the Christian life as set apart for God and sharing the Lord's rejection

The world was so contrary to Christ, that he who was not against Him was for Him.* The Son of man was to be rejected. Faith in His Person was the thing, not now individual service to Him. So would it be with Christians; if they who were of Christ did not render this testimony, where should anything be found, apart from Christians, to render it to them and produce it in them?

Now this sense of obligation to God which separates from evil, this judgment of all evil in the heart, must be in oneself. It is not a question of judging others, but of placing oneself before God, thus becoming the salt, having it in oneself. With regard to others, one must seek peace; and real separation fr om all evil is that which enables us to walk in peace together. In a word, Christians were to keep themselves separate from evil and near to God in themselves; and to walk with God in peace among one another. No instruction could be more plain, more important, more valuable. It judges, it directs, the whole christian life in a few words.

The relations of God with man, the Lord's obedience as man

But the end of the Lord's service drew near. Having described in these principles the exigencies of eternity and the character of christian life, He brings back all the relations of God with man to their original elements, setting aside the world and its glory, and Jewish glory also, as to its immediate accomplishment, and pointing out the path of eternal life in the cross, and in the saving power of God. Nevertheless He takes the place of obedience Himself, and of service -- the true place of man -- in the midst of all this: God Himself being introduced on the other hand, in His proper character as God, in His nature and in His divine rights; the special glory that belongs to dispensations, and the relationships proper to them, being left out.

Carol I agree with what you have said but it still does not address the severity to the warning as it applies to eternity which Yahshua was talking about...

This makes me very sad, but I have never known of a single time that any Christian I knew had started wondering (within themselves first) if they could loose their salvation without grappling w/ some sort of lust (or other) that they were wanting to give themselves permission to do. You can't bring up temptation without also discussing true liberty (but it happens).
We all know this; what Jesus said is what He said, period. Nowadays, those looking for loopholes think that this is up for interpretation...flinging themselves at the fence. What's going on in the heart of an individual that would want to lay a snare for their brother or sister? It is an erruption of a deeper corruption-it could be someone's last cry for help. The Spirit and prayer may deliver someone overtaken in this manner back into communion in the Vine, we shouldn't condemn, but exhort, and warn in love.
The Apostle Paul wrote, "Who are you to judge another man's servant?"
Also-we are taught that to deliver such a one from their falling away is like pulling someone from the fire w/ the smell smoke still on their clothes.
I believe we will be required to give account of the one who was lost if we do not put forth every effort to retrieve them with prayers and love. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for being so very clear about this:

Carol I agree with what you have said but it still does not address the severity to the warning as it applies to eternity which Yahshua was talking about...

41For I tell you truly, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to and bear the name of Christ will by no means fail to get his reward.

42And whoever causes one of these little ones (these believers) who acknowledge and cleave to Me to stumble and sin, it would be better for him if a [huge] millstone were hung about his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.

43And if your hand puts a stumbling block before you and causes you to sin, cut it off! It is more profitable and wholesome for you to go into life maimed than with two hands to go to hell (Gehenna), into the fire that cannot be put out.

Okay, I'm sorry too.

Well, let's see...

The disciples wanted to know who was greatest in the kingdom. Jesus told them that, apart from humility, they could not even enter the kingdom.

As Christians, we must not only accept the little children for Jesus’ sake; but we must also receive all of God’s children and seek to minister to them (Rom. 14:1).
True humility thinks of others, not of self.

Jesus explained that we can have four different attitudes toward the children and, consequently, toward true humility. We can seek to become like the children (Matt. 18:3-4) in true humility, as to the Lord. Or, we can only receive them (Matt. 18:5) because Jesus told us to. If people are not careful, they will cause them to stumble (Matt. 18:6), and even end up despising them (Matt. 18:10).

It is a dangerous thing to look down on the children, because God values them highly. When we welcome a child (or a Christian believer), we welcome Christ (Matt. 18:5). The Father cares for them and the angels watch over them (Matt. 18:10).

In these days of child neglect and child abuse, people need to take Christ’s warning seriously. It is better to drown with a heavy millstone around one’s neck, than to abuse a child and face the judgment of God (Matt. 18:6). And likewise for those who abuse Christian believers, the children of God.

When we think of abortion, pedophiles, selling children, etc, I cannot see a Christian doing such terrible things to a child. Discipline yes, of course, but not abuse.

I am sorry you saw my comment as harassment....

I see warnings ...all warnings, be they natural or spiritual as life threatening...

I see the word if to mean conditional...

I see people claiming salvation live any way they like because the Once saved always saved" message
tells them they have said a prayer and they are saved.....

I know you and others that believe "once saved always saved" say these people just never really got saved....

so how does this warning apply to the Christian in your opinion?

I obviously commented on your offensiveness, not on the Word of God.

If you don't believe in eternal security that's your choice, but it doesn't make your constant, unprovoked cheap-shots any less cheap.

Why do you deliberately harass people with your unproductive, childish aspersions? If you want to post something about OSAS then do it in a responsible way. Salvation is not an issue to be treated as disdainfully as you do.

Our salvation is made secure by the works of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit at a very high cost to Them. It is irreverent of you to mock our salvation like Their work means nothing.

Maybe I should look for an even bigger millstone for you because you offend God and those of us who are grateful to Him and trust in Him for salvation, including highly respected preachers, teachers and authors like Spurgeon, Wiersbe and MacArthur.
