TexasGrandma,
You're so right! Other than prayer, some of my most profound moments with the Lord are spent just like you described. Sometimes we just need to give our mind some time off so that it can rest and be at peace. The Eastern religions may be able to clear their minds with meditation, but not in the company of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

Sometimes, the sweetest moments we have with God, is when we sit quietly listening to songs of Praise and Worship or old Gospel Hymns all by ourselves. We leave the daily grind behind, and concentrate on our Lord Jesus and His love for us. Then in this peaceful moment, Jesus comes and makes Himself known to us in a very special private way. It is like we are sitting beside Him, just He and us. During this time, He heals the hurts, comforts the wounden heart, and encourages us with His love. This special quiet time, is healing for the mind and the soul. We can leave our hurts, our discouragements, and our disappointments at Jesus feet. We do not have to carry them with us anymore. We can walk away Praising the name of our Lord and Savior.
