The following was not written by me. The authors name is at the end of the post. I felt it was a good reminder as to who and How we are to go about the Lord's work.
--------------------------------------------------
I spent most of the day today visiting historical sites around the north east. I stood on the bridge where the shot heard around the world was fired.

At 1:30 in the afternoon I was in salem MA where there is a memorial for the victums of the Salem witch trials of 1692. 24 people were hanged for being witches. their bodies were not burried after death, rather they took them to ocean and threw them on the beach.

I was intrigued at what I was told about one of the tests they used to find out who was a witch.

They made this cake, it was a mixture of all kinds of stuff and it included the urine of the suspected witch. They fed the cake to a dog and if the dog showed the same signs as the suspect witch then she/he was arrested for witch craft and stood trial.

The thought crossed my mind that the witch hunters were using the same tactics as the witches. Instead of using the Biblical order for indetifying witches they themselves used divination.

My thoughts then turned from 1692 to 2004 and wondered if we are that much different.

God gave us a wonderful prescribed plan that is so simple I wonder if we still believe it.

A good example is the process for a minister. I posted in another thread today that I am not as concerned about a ministers education as I am the touch of God on their lives. I am more concerned that today we have become credential mills and have turned out several people who are not saved let alone called of God to preach.

A man I know of was rejected by two denominations for credentials for whatever reasons. He persisted and finally got ordained and in no time at all the Church he was pastoring fell apart. he himself wrote 'ichabod' over the door. He blamed the members because they voted to close the Church and absorb into another body. The man was the fault, not the members. I am of the notion that Jesus shut the doors.

Another example that got me. the other day I read a bitter plea for help. A minister was asking for prayer because he was about to loose his Church. This man claimed he had started posting messages on an adult message board. He claimed he went there to try to witness to them. He compromised his identy and one of his members found out who he was. This member blackmailed the Minister and the minister 'borrowed' money from the church fund to pay him. Now the minsiter says the man is asing for 'special favors' or he is going to go public and expose to the church what he has done. I found it intersting that one reply to the minister was from another minister saying that 'he had done nothing wrong.' I guess my questions are: If you were witnessing then why pay blackmail? And why stand in the way of sinners? The Bible tells us plainly not to do this.

A couple years ago i confronted a man who had ordained some people in Christian Ministry who did not believe the Bible was infalliable. they actually taught that there parts of it in error. I gave him the qualifications from Timothy and Titus for Ministers and he responded to me by showing me at how Jesus did not meet those qualifications.

I wonder if we have let witch craft back into the church only this time under the name of modernism.

I was taught and still believe that the minister who is not praying is playing. A praying man won't deny the Bible is the word of God. A praying man would rather be hanged himself than involve himself with pornography for any reason.

Leonard Ravenhill once told me he wouldn't give a nickle for a minister who spent less than two hours a day in prayer. Ravenhill rose at 4 am each morning to pray even in his old age.

Prayer is what makes the minister because it is what breaks the minister. God only uses broken vessels that have fallen under his authority. God resists the proud and self sufficient, he honors the humble and he will not use the arrogant.

There are so many excuses for not praying today and our answer is always 'God understands.' No my friend God does not understand. he has promised to reveal himself to the seeker and by our not seeking him we are living in unbelief. Anything in our lives that keeps ministers from prayer must be gotten rid of.

Unbelief is the only sin that baffles God. God sits on his throne waiting for his people to call on him and we don't. God waits, His works and wonders to perform but we fail to seek him.

It is sin on our part to preach to our people to be faithful to our churches when we are not faithful to God.

Are we really that much different than those Puritans of 1692?

By not praying we are telling God what he started in the Spirit we can finish in the flesh.
