What does the Lord require?
Deuteronomy 10:12-16
"And now, Israel, what does the LORD your GOD require of you? HE requires you to fear HIM, to live according to HIS will, to love and worship HIM with all your heart and soul, and to obey the LORD's commands and laws that I am giving you today for your own good. The highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to the LORD your GOD. Yet the LORD chose your ancestors as the objects of HIS love. And HE chose you, their descendants, above every other nation, as is evident today. Therefore, cleanse your sinful hearts and stop being stubborn.
Deuteronomy 11:26-28
Today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse! You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the LORD your GOD that I am giving you today. You will receive a curse if you reject the commands of the LORD your GOD and turn from HIS way by worshiping foreign gods.
Often we ask: What does GOD expect from me? Moses gives a simple summary which is very easy to remember. We are to fear GOD. That is to have reverence for HIM. You might ask what does reverence involve. It is to show honor and admire profoundly and respectfully. To worship with deep awe as worthy of such expression. Unfortunately, in today's society we have forgotten what reverence is. But yet we are still commanded to do this very thing.
Secondly, we are to walk in HIS ways. How can you possible walk on a path without first knowing who you are following? To begin with you must know HIM personally. Then you must ask HIM to show you what HIS will is for you and wait for HIM to do this. Once you know what it is that you personally are to do, GO do it!! Each of us as believers are given a unique and individual gift of the spirit to use in service to our LORD JESUS. We all are to witness and make disciples, but gift JESUS gives you is separate and designed for you alone.
Third, we are to Love HIM and worship HIM. Why would JESUS have to remind us to love HIM? Because, we get so busy doing things that we often times forget the basics of the faith. We are to Love HIM with the kind of love that HE gives to us. A Love that is all encompassing, a love that is totally given unreservedly, a Love that is without bonds or conditions. And out of this great love will come our service to HIM which is our worship and adoration for HIM. This love and service is to be given from our whole being, Body, Mind, Soul, and Spirit.
Next, we are to obey HIS commands. How often we complicate faith by adding rules and regulations or other requirements. JESUS, said very simple "For GOD so loved you that HE gave JESUS to died for you that if you will only believe that you would not perish but have eternal life." Are you frustrated, burned out, angry because you can't seem to be where you think you need to be? Are you trying to hard to please GOD? Concentrate on HIS real requirements and find peace. Respect HIM, follow HIS guiding Light, Love and Serve HIM and Obey HIM.
