After Joseph died, the princes of the people of Israel in the land of Goshen most likely chose the Zarhites (the descendants of Zarah, the son of Judah/Tamar, and twin brother of Pharez), to be their de facto ruler over them in the land of Goshen.
For Zarah had come out first, and had the red string on his wrist. Zarah was the firstborn of Judah/Tamar and the LORD God had not changed the law of premogitur or firstborn.
On his deathbed in Misr Egypt, Jacob had given the birthright promises to Ephraim/Manasseh, but Jacob separated out the "kings shall come out of you" promise and gave that promise to Judah, including that the King of Kings Yahshua-Jesus would come from Judah, as did happen.
But when the king who did not know Joseph in Msir Egypt arose, the Judah/Tamar Zarahite rulers in the land of Goshen fled and ended up, among other places, in Iberia (now Spain, with "Iberia" meaning "Hebrew-ia", and as witnessed by the "Zaragossa river" in southwest Iberia/Spain.
And eventually, the Zarhite rulers joined the Israelite Danites and others who had fled the Assyrian assaults and these refugees from Israel settled in the isles of the sea and were later joined by the Zarhite princes who then began to rule in the British isles where they became "a multitude of people" and "nations came from them" and "Ireland/Scotland/England or Ephraim possessed the farflung gates or seaports of their enemies, as far as India and China".
Later, Jeremiah married the king's daughters of the Judah/Tamar Pharez line of Zedekiah to the Zarhite princes in the isles of the sea.
In this way, the LORD God kept His unconditional promise to David that "not a man would fail to sit on the throne of Israel forever".
And still later, Manasseh spun off Ephraim and became a great nation in his own right as the United States of America.
But the Lord Yahshua-Jesus came from the Judah/Tamar Pharez line, the twin brother of Zarah.
But Zarah was the firstborn, and thus for now, there is a breach. Amd that's why Pharez was called "Pharez", meaning "breach". This is not just some cute chapter in the Bible. This chapter has a deliberate purpose.
But when the Lord Yahshua-Jesus comes again to take possession of the holy oblation of land by Jerusalem in the land of Israel, then will the breach or Pharez be repaired, as the Zarah branch of Judah/Tamar will be rejoined with the Pharez branch of Judah/Tamar, and then He will be called "The repairer of the breach".

Why would the Bible, or better, the LORD, deem it necessary to put in the Bible that the baby Zarah's arm came out first and that the midwife tied a red string to it?
Because it was fun? A red string?

You shall be called the repairer of the breach. Why???
Isaiah 58:12
And they that shall be of you shall build the old waste places: you shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
The repairer of what breach?
Of the breach in the Phares royal line, from whom the Messiah Yahshua-Jesus came, when King Zedekiah was the last king of Judah, and the royal line of King Zedekiah of Judah ended, except that the royal daughters of King Zedekiah were with Jeremiah in Egypt:
Jeremiah 43
5 But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, that were returned from all nations, whither they had been driven, to dwell in the land of Judah;
6 Even men, and women, and children, and the king's daughters, and every person that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah.
7 So they came into the land of Egypt: for they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: thus came they even to Tahpanhes.
The royal line of King Zedekiah of Judah ended, except that Jeremiah, who was allowed to go where he pleased by the Babylonian king, apparently took King Zedekiah’s royal daughters to Ireland and married them to the Zarah line, the twin brother of Pharez, which was by then in the isles of the sea, having gone there in ships with Dan and others of northern Israel who escaped when King Tiglath-pilser first came and took some Reuben and Gad and half-Manasseh away to Assyria.
Matthew 1
1The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
2Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas {OT: Judah and his brothers;
3And Judas {OT: Judah[/b]} begat Phares and Zarah of Tamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
Note that here Phares is mentioned, but also his full brother Zarah is mentioned, eventhough this genealogy is not about Zarah. Why mention Zarah in a genealogogy of Jesus Christ?
Because that is where the breach in the Pharez royal line occurred, the breach which will be repaired when Yahshua-Jesus becomes king of the earth over Israel from the Phares royal line again, as follows:
Genesis 38
28 And it came to pass, when she {Tamar} travailed , that the one {baby} put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound a scarlet thread upon his hand, saying, This one came out first.
29 But it came to pass, that he drew his hand back, and look, his brother came out first: and she said, How have you broken forth? This breach be upon you: therefore his name was called Pharez.
30And after that his brother came out, which had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.
Thanks to the monarchy of Ireland, Scotland, and England, David has not failed him a king to sit upon the throne of Israel which is now in the isles of the sea, and Jeremiah married the King Zedekiah royal daughters with royal scions of the scarlet thread of Zarah who had started over in Ireland and Scotland and England.
But the Lord Yahshua-Jesus was not from the King Zedekiah royal line. The Lord Yahshua-Jesus was from the royal line of King Jehoiachin of Judah line, not from the King Zedekiah of Judah royal line.
When the LORD and the Son come to the land of Israel on the day of the LORD, when the house of Israel and the house of Judah shall come up out of their graves and come into the land of Israel.
And when that happens, the LORD shall be called The Repairer of the Breach, when the house of Israel and the house of Judah are reunited under the One from the royal house of King Jehoiachin.
The temporary breach in the transfer of the visible kingdom of Israel “from the high {Phares} court to the low {Zarah} court” occurred, and that temporary breach will be repaired when the Lord Yahshua-Jesus, who is from the Phares royal line, again restores the royal line from Zarah back to the Phares royal line of the family of David and of the tribe of Judah, and back to the Jehoiachin royal line from the Lord Yahshua-Jesus came.
