There they go again! The infamous Freedom from Religion Foundation picked the wrong town to mess with this time. They wrote letters complaining about the nativity scene in Belen, New Mexico, that has depicted the Biblical birth of Jesus Christ for several years—they wanted the town to take it down. Well, their efforts backfired! The mayor said the town’s iconic nativity wasn’t going anywhere, and local churches put together a huge “Follow the Star to Bethlehem” event last Saturday. One pastor said, "People are concerned about their freedom of religion and so in response we're trying to stand up and say we're not going to go in a corner and hide any more, we're going to stand up and proclaim what we believe.” Several more people throughout the town also erected nativities in addition to the original one. Mayor Cordova said: “All they're doing (the FFRF) is riling people up and getting them to express support more than they ever have before for things like this.” It’s about time we as Christians get “riled up” about our religious freedoms! We need to stand up for the things of Jesus Christ and God’s Word. Way to go Belen!
The Bible says this about the birth of Christ, "And the angel said... 'And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’” (Luke 2:12-14)
That is great of Belen. Thank you for sharing. Betty
