Romans 10:9-10;Romans 12:1-2 Salvation is the moment when a person begins their spiritual walk in union with Jesus. Jesus is the cornerstone and the captain of the ship if you will. Sanctification is the process of the Lord making one holy. Some people are self-sanctification apart from Jesus and they are called apostates. Everyone can be truly saved but not every elects to continue in the faith to the moment of sanctification. Some people who are bold make it an all encompass on the day of their regeneration.YOU can gain direction from The book of Romans what I consider the little bible. I also believe that sanctification is the process of working out your salvation unto the Lord. Discipleship is the key. For a lack of a better word Catechisim. Most catechisim that takes place are not being taught to someone who has been regenerated. Without the Holy Spirit there can not be a holy sanctification as indicated in the Holy Bible.

Thank-you for response redkermit. I guess what you are saying is that there came a moment in your spiritual walk when you were awakened to the fact that you have to die daily to the will of God.
Sanctification then becomes an ongoing growing, renewing and purification process until our nature is finally glorified at the moment of death.
Col 3:10 In its place you have clothed yourselves with a brand-new nature that is continually being renewed as you learn more and more about Christ, who created this new nature within you.

I believe there can be two separate and distinct moments of salvation and sanctification. I have heard it argued that there is only one moment of salvation, and that "sanctification" is just the person truly becoming saved. I believe there can be two separate moments, because that is what I experienced, although I also believe it is possible to be saved and sanctified in the same moment.
Being raised in the Nazarene church, I was always taught salvation and sanctification, but I never understood sanctification. I was saved early as a child. I can't tell you the date, but I distinctly remember kneeling at the altar and accepting Jesus Christ as my savior. I continued to live the "Christian" life for many years after. But, it wasn't until I was 22 that I believe I was sanctified, as this is when I was (for lack of a better word) awakened to the idea that I needed to commit everything in my life to Christ. That everything I do needs to glorify Him.
So, that is the basic idea of how I believe salvation and sanctification can occur separately.
